Was reading up a bit on the G6 right here. Looks like the G6 is going to join the water resistance crowd.

The Samsung Galaxy S7 has an IP68 rating (I believe), which makes it the current champ. The Google Pixel phones sit at IP53... and with the LG G6 coming, you'd have to figure it'd sport an IP68 or better rating. So, some questions:

a) do Pixel owners care?
b) is waterproofing a feature fast becoming a 'standard' for all new phones?
c) are you excited about the G6?

I can't speak to Pixel owners caring, but as a current LG owner myself, I care - IP68 also means dust-proof and that's of more personal interest. As far as B goes, I'd say it's poised to become a standard. Not that many devices come so equipped, yet most tech sites make sure to mention whether a device does or doesn't have it, and that's simply because Samsung and Apple both have designed their latest releases with it.

To answer your last point - I'm trying not to be but the more I read the more I have to admit I'm paying attention.

a) no. they bought the phone knowing it's specs
b) probably
c) yep, sounds like LG is learning :)

I don't think Pixel Owners will care that much about the difference between ratings.

Water Resistance seems like the coming trend and I have to wonder how that impacts the sales of accidental damage insurance since most claims are water damage or screen breakage. It almost doesn't pay to get insurance for screen damage alone because of the deductible and limitations to two occurances unless your plan covers loss as well.

Other than the newness factor the G6 doesn't excite me, however I will reserve my judgment until I see one.
