The Next Google Nexus Device

Nexus devices are development devices, not hi-end devices. Probably dual-core (Exynos 5512 or S4 8960) with a capable gpu and an 8mp camera. No microsim slot, but with removable buttery and wifi N, NFC and the works.

Do not dream for a high-end phone. Google will never shoot it's OEM's like that.

I would disagree there. Which nexus was not high end? Nexus devices set the standard for other OEMs and are necessarily high end. Though I do agree it may stick to dual core as opposed to quad. Quad core seems to be for market hype as opposed to real performance/battery benefit.

If nexus devices aren't high end, why is the galaxy nexus just as much as the high end phones? They do set the standard

5 Nexus's?
- Motorola Nexus Phone
- HTC Nexus Phone
- Samsung Nexus Phone
- Nexus 7
- Nexus Q

As for the specs im hoping for:

- Compatiable with CDMA/LTE/GSM/HSPA+
- Sold through Google Play but Verizon/AT&T are allowed to sell too for the general consumers (so like iPhone and the Apple store)
- QuadCore, either snapdragon or tegra 3 which should include lte by the time these phones go out. (Don't know much about the S4 but I like how Tegra 3 has the "ninja core"
- HD Screen (1080p or 720p or just good)
- 2GB of RAM @ 1.5 or 1.8 GHz
- 16/32/64GB versions
- Micro SD slot
- Micro USB and Micro HDMI ports)
- NFC / Bluetooth / Gyro / Acelerator / typical stuff
- Thin (Gnex / Razr Maxx) but comfortable to hold.
- Screens: Moto = 4-4.3" / HTC = 4.5" Samsung = 5+" (or similar)
- OS: Android 4.1 Jelly Bean upgradable to Key Lime Pie soon after.

I'm hoping for new Nexus when my contract is up in 2013. Time to chuck the iPhone. (I know, I know. I was a fool... Had the Galaxy Nexus and iPhone in my hands and I chose poorly)

The next Nexus needs to be the Nexus 10. Simple as that.

A 10" tablet with a 226 ppi screen for $299 (16GB) to $349 (32GB) will do serious damage to iPad sales.

Now that the Nexus 7 is getting critical acclaim from all quarters we can be all but sure that Apple is going to jump in to the pool with the rumoured 8" iPad Mini. By definition, it won't be as good as the Nexus 7. 164 ppi screen. 4:3 frame. That's poor portability and noticeably worse display resolution. But it may sell. And the perfect response would be a Nexus 10.

Google should simply get ahead of the curve here. A Nexus 10 with only 14% less ppi than a retina iPad, but 70% more ppi than an iPad 2, with a $299 price tag will offer some serious competition to the iPad lineup. At the very minimum, Apple will be forced to severely discount the iPad 2 (to $300 maybe?).

As for the phones....I don't know how a phone from each major OEM is a great idea. The beauty of the Nexus program is that one OEM at a time benefits from massive Nexus sales. Sales will be quite fragmented with 5 OEMs. That said, I'd love to see each major OEM sustain an ongoing Nexus product line going forward. Gives us stock Android fans good options....

My wish list:

1) Samsung or Motorola.....just not a fan of HTC
2) 4.5 inch HD Super AMOLED Plus screen, covered with Corning Willow Glass
3) Obviously the latest Android....whatever that is at the time
4) Quadcore A15 5250 based Exynos processor
5) Mali 658 GPU
6) 2100 mAH battery
7) 8MP camera fully optimized, zero lag, dual LED flash, killer camera software
8) 2GB of RAM
9) Key communication components: Pentaband radio, LTE, NFC, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, WiFi
10) 32 GB and 64 GB varieties (micro SD unnecessary with this much storage)
11) No capacitive buttons
12) Thin bezel and frame....phone should have the same footprint as the GS2

Plus, Google should spit caution to the wind and call the thing the Nexus Prime! Yes, bring back that rumored device name. The Nexus Prime is the greatest name of all time for a phone. It must happen!

I would be willing to shell out a LOT of money for the phone above.

Ok. Gonna throw my hat in the ring with my wish list:

1) Samsung or Motorola or HTC as long as they don't make a fundamentally flawed phone to keep their flag ships phones safe.
2) 4.8 inch HD Super AMOLED Plus screen.
3) Jelly Bean
4) Quadcore processor
5) No capacitive buttons
6) Over a 2500 mAH battery. The Max has a 3300. I want to be able to crush my phone and have it laugh at me and still last all day.
7) 12MP camera, dual LED flash
8) 2GB of RAM
9) True world phone to work on all carriers
10) 16 and 32gb versions with microSD expandible slot IP to 64gb

These are not crazy specs and are totally in line with other premium phones today. Just want a premium phone with the android experience!

Are you on crack? I'll bet Samsung's Galaxy S/S2/S3 devices have outsold Nexus S/Galnex by 10 to 1. HTC's Nexus One was also a flop sales-wise.

Are you? Sure SII/SIII sales have outsold the Nexii. That's the way it's supposed to be. But that doesn't mean the Nexii sales were poor. Even the Nexus One had decent sales, considering the botched attempt at direct sales.

In any event, my point was that it'll be quite challenging to get an OEM to put in a solid effort on a Nexus device that devalues their own brand, knowing they have 4 other competitors. What's the incentive?

His point was there is only room for one nexus phone at a time. Multiple nexii would mean they would split sales from the same potential customer niche. A valid point if one assumes the Nexus line only appeals to a small niche of customers. Right now that may be true. Perhaps in the future more people will see the benefit of owning a Nexus. Most people right now though dont really care about ROM updates and probably have no clue what version of Android they have.

Please just give me

-Compatible with CDMA/LTE/GSM/HSPA+ !!!!!!!!!!!

I dont want to have to wait for updates like the sprint and verizon galaxy nexus. GOOGLE MAKE ONE DEVICE LIKE THE IPHONE!!!

The biggest feature would be -

1. Google announces that the Nexus phone will be fully supported across all carriers. No more Verizon delaying updates by months. No carrier bloatware or disabling features. Zero carrier control!

2. Google announces a firm release date and availability

3. Google treats Nexus phones as a product (like they're doing with the 7 tablet) and not a developer experiment device.

Honestly the specs aren't that important, as long as they aren't compromised and aren't clearly last gen (like the GNexus gpu). Force the carriers to carry the phone with no changes. Support it. Advertise it. There are many many people who are waiting for it.

After getting my nexus 7 in yesterday, I'd like to see an asus phone. But, I sure hope we don't have to wait too long. Got my gsm razr stolen right out my hands last week and I'm back to my captivate with it's broken power button. :(

My contract is up in September, my DHD has been good but I'm sick of waiting on OTA updates. Definitely Nexus for me, I just hope HTC bring out a Nexus with the same build quality as my DHD :)

Screw Sammy! After seeing the beautiful hardware of nexus Q I want an all American Google made Nexus Prime!

I really wish Google would choose someone besides Sammy for the next nexus, but they don't learn too fast I guess. I actually like think the idea of each major manufacturer having a nexus so the choice is in hardware and nothing else, but I guess that won't happen.

My Ultimate (and should be realistic) Wish List:

-OEM: Samsung
-OS: Latest version of Android (hopefully Key Lime Pie?)
-Processor: Quad-Core (Exynos preferably, or Tegra 3)
-LTE capabilities
-4.65 or 4.8" *RBG Matrix* display (AMOLED+ basically)
-Higher build quality than the GNex (Far less plastic, please)

Those are the most important notables for me.

Here's to hoping they can deliver.

Not Tegra 3, or even Tegra 4. All Tegra chips are pure hype and underperform.

The next Nexus SoC should be the S4 Pro, Exynos 5512, OMAP5 or Medfield.
