The Notch... it's Big... it's Black... it's Bold... it's Beautiful

What I'm saying though by creating the notch and moving all sensors towards the middle allows the notifications to move up into what used to be bezel territory.

True. As I see it, they have 2 options if they try to hide/camouflage the notch. They can either turn off the pixels in the areas on either side of the notch and move the notifications below the notch. Or they can change the areas to black but still allow the notifications to show in those areas. I prefer the latter personally, as it would appear that notifications are showing on the bezel.

Also, this popped into my feed today:

https://9to5google.com/2018/09/26/google-pixel-3-xl-notch-vs-pixel-2/

It compares the notch area of the 3XL to the bezel of the 2XL, and they're the same. The only difference is that on the 3XL the corners are cut out, giving us a notch in the middle. I said as much awhile back in this thread. So if Google does relent and allow us to hide the notch, it would look similar to the 2XL.

Unless I am missing your point I didn't interpret any commitment on the part Google to eliminate the notch after this year.

I didn't watch the whole thing, but from what I saw, this YouTuber doesn't know anything about Google or Alphabet and doesn't represent either.

the other problem I found out in you tube if I keep the notch, In that area of the notch you dont see all of the content full view but if I disable the notch full view it's ok. not a biggie but my experience with it

This is my 1+6 phone both pictures, you have the choice to disable the notch. Now my opinion on this or any notch phone after studying it , yes screen goes higher with notch that's because the notification is transparent compared to the no notch. They both share the same information just one is transparent and the other is not . So I think you gain nothing or lose nothing it's just a design to be different , which I'm ok with that but u can do same thing in a Nova launcher making notification transparent or not

You're right you don't gain or lose anything, but I think the notifications stand out better and are easier to see in detail at a glance against the black background....a better, easier on the eyes cleaner look than with the notch. All notched phones should come with that option.

Yeah definitely agree

another neat trick is to use a black wallpaper to give you that without bezel look , But the only downside is going into apps you see the notification bar or notch..
I've read some article that apple did that to the new iPhone's on their website to make it appear there is no notch

now looking at those 2 pictures what can u tell me ? then I'll give my opinion

I actually do not mind either. Notches aren't as big of a deal to me now as they used to be. Perhaps I've gotten used to them or perhaps I've just relaxed a bit on my disdain for them.

I'm still not a fan of some of the notches out there; but most phones that have them are aesthetically pleasing and the notch does serve a purpose in terms of not only screen real estate but also in terms of notifications.

With all that being said, I like my notchless Pixel 2 but if I want a phone that has a notch, it won't bother me.

Problem with the notch.
Is really, What was Google Thinking, to put a notch on a phone.
That nobody would mind, or they just didn't care.

That they were providing additional screen real estate to users without increasing the size of the phone. Pretty much exactly what people have been asking for and solved the exact same way that all OEM's who have attempted to solve the problem have been able to do so with exception to the crazy moving parts designs.

If'n Google sales are down.
Guess they can ask themselves.
Exactly what caused the problem.

I see so many people say, it's really a Ugly phone.

This is addressed by the fact that the vocal minority of forum users who hate notches happens to represent a part of the ultra-nerd population that reads about tech in the first place and has no representative bearing on what the majority of users want. We're not even a blip on the radar of "the market". The market's favorite phone series is the new iPhone series. All three of the new phones have notches, so the market seems to be totally fine with notches.
