The Notch... it's Big... it's Black... it's Bold... it's Beautiful

If you compare it to the 2XL they took space that wasn't being utilized below the speaker and adjacent to the proximity sensor and filled it. Yes we lose notification space if you value all those icons but we gain screen space by moving the notification bar up so to say it's there is no valid reason would be purely perspective.

Thank you, glad other people are understanding this. I never let more than a few notifications pile up anyways. This is one of the main reasons why i've decided the notch isn't that big of a deal.

No, saying there is no valid reason would be purely "incorrect", and not purely perspective. Notches exist for a reason. That's an objective fact. Whether or not a person agrees that those reasons outweigh the cons of doing it, is perspective.

I can handle notch as well but will appreciate it even more if it had a purpose. The notch in the X has a purpose. Unclear what's Google doing with the notch as from the leaks they still have bottom bezels which means it sports dual speakers.

The notch increases the amount of screen area that is available for content. That's all any of them do. Also, the notch and bottom bezel are unrelated in any way. They serve different purposes and have no intrinsic impact on the existence, size or shape of the other.

I don't like how notches look, but I understand why they're there. But I also understood the purpose and function of bezels.

forget the notch.
Would you ditch a Samsung S8 in place of buying a Samsung X next march for a Pixel 3.
What would you loose by leaving Samsung?

Well I know what you're saying and I agree with you but some don't value those reasons and will dismiss those reasons as being valid.

I wouldn't buy an S8 to begin with.

You would lose the curved screen, bixby, Samsung apps

I don't see on my 1+6 where the notch adds more content , it looks like they used it for a design purpose just to break up the notification on top for to say they did something different...maybe I could be wrong, but I don't see it unless I'm missing something .

Not sure on OnePlus phones, but on the pixels they increased the aspect ratio by 1/37 in height and then moved the notifications into that increased space. This means that the space below the notch is the same as the entirety of the previous generation display which included notifications, so more space is available for content.
