The Official Battery Life Thread

Check for a rouge app... That is waay too much battery loss while your phone is in idle... Over a 8 hr period for testing while I slept I only lost 9 percent... But I still dont get why people choose not to plug in over night... Takes 2 seconds as long as a phone can get me through the day im good..

That's definitely what's going on. I haven't installed anything that I didn't have on my EVO, but I've noticed that the "sync" icon shows up every 5-10 seconds on the notification bar. I've tried forcing shutdown of every app I can think of (after a fresh rebook), but the only way I can get it to stop is to turn off all syncing in (accounts and sync). That's not good for obvious reasons. ALl things considered, the only difference between this and my EVO is the junk that came on it.

I don't always plug in at night because I used to have 80%+ at that time with my EVO. I had the dock for it at work that it sat in, so by the time i got back to work it was maybe at 75% (lower if I watched a show on the drive in).

Shot in the dark here but have u gotten both of the HTC updates?

I've had my phone running on battery for 20 hours, and its still at 22%.

The Pre would drop from 20 to 0 in like, three minutes. I have to get used to realizing that "****, 20% left? That's still 1/5th of the battery!"

Impressive.

I had an issue with my evo and something causing it to drain which I solved by doing a hard reset. I didn't pinpoint it but I think it may have been between google maps updating or the install of google voicemail as my battery life sucked after that. The reason why I say google maps is there was a process for it that would always run even if I didnt use the app and killed the task.

And back to what you said 4100 is pretty low.... Is that what it is when the light turns green? I've actually found it to be higher when it's @ 99% (odd i know)

Hell mine has dropped to 38xx at like 45% charge(today). Right now it's at 4230 but it's charging, currently at 84%.

I did a hard reset a little while ago, gonna see if that helps. If not I do have an open ticket with Sprint.

Glad it made it past 4100!

Reset should help... Well like I said if yours is like mine 4.34 should be about max so when you around there it's probable not charging anymore even though the led is probable still red....

There is definitely a bug or something with the battery not hitting 100% correctly or all these widgets need updating( maybe the reason they took out the HTC widget, misreading or what not)

Alright, I think I've found the issue I'm having and how to resolve it. I don't really care for the sense launcher as I mentioned before, but I loved the Sense lock screen with weather. I had disabled the launcher and was running adw, something I grew to love after having it built into cyanogenmod. Well, I noticed the sync icon was coming on every 5-10 seconds and going off a few seconds later. I was able to stop that by turning off "auto-sync" in "accounts & sync" under settings. But the result of that was that I no longer had weather information on the lock screen. I think whatever was caching the weather data had to be part of the sense launcher, so it was trying to get it every few seconds. Going back to the Sense launcher solved the problem, but I still wanted ADW. So I just changed the lock screen to the one with the clock on it, went back to ADW and my sync problem is gone. I'll be charging tonight to start tomorrow with 100% and hopefully will have much better luck now.

Why can't HTC just unlock our bootloader now? I'm sure this battery could last a really long time with a clean rom on here.

where do you guys find this battery reading the 4100 ect you guys r talking about, and whats a normal level at 100 percent.. can anyone walk me through, I for one also took auto sync on and i sync manually to see if it helps amd ive been doing bump charging

If u read back a few post you will see... We are using the -battery indicator- app in the market... It will show you ur battery % in ur status bar.... When u drag the status bar down it will shiw you the mV of the battery... As I said before mine tops around 4340 mV

Weirdest thing. When I charge my phone it will get up to 99% and sit there for a long time. Eventually hit 100%. Now here is the weird part. If I let it sit plugged in over night it will read 98% in the am. So, it de-charges 2% if left on the charger. Strange or normal?

Its normal!!! It stops charging @ 100% even though it's still on the charger... Its a fail safe to prevent the battery from over charging
