The Official Battery Life Thread

New to Sprint and Android here. Just left AT&T / iPhone 3GS for the EVO 3D. Love the phone. Battery lasts over 8 hours here if I have bluetooth/4G/wifi off. Philly area here, 4G is here but it seems to be spotty, so I keep it off most of the time as it seems to be a real drain on the battery. 3G seems to be fine - much better for data than AT&T's crappy data. I turn on the bluetooth when I'm driving to use with my car's built in bluetooth. And I use wifi when I'm home.

Coming from a T-Mobile G2, battery life on this phone is amazing. With moderate use I've made it about 36 hours on one charge. The G2 barely lasted me a day.

Atleast you can now buy and pop in a spare battery if you wish lol

did you actuallly use the phone alot? becuase if you did your display consumption would have been a lot higher.

No. Hardly at all, but I think that's another good bit of data to have. Clearly usage is going to eat the battery, but not using it much and it hardly dissipates the battery at all tells me a lot too.

I used it a lot one day to surf 4G, took quite a few 3D pictures etc... at a birthday party and had to recharge after about 6 hours.

Anyone using battery monitor pro widget? Compared to the og evo seems like the discharge rate is higher when looking at the history. While sleeping its in the 300s. Og evo on stock was low 100s. Anyone else see this?

Well, yesterday I went into settings/applications and unchecked the
"Start Automatically - Auto launch task manager at startup"

In the mornings I check mail, send a few texts, respond to emails as well and by the time I get to work at 9am my battery has usually dropped to below 80%

Today is the first day of no task manager running and at 10:30 I still have almost a full battery.
thats quite interesting, anyone else messed with this setting

Installed juice defender ultimate, but the log says not compatable, phone not rooted.
Where did I go wrong?

Juicedefender works fine without root just a few of the more advanced options wont take effect. No full root yet so you didn't do anything wrong. The main function of the app (turning the radios on and off ) should still work fine.

For graphing there are a few Apps I use juiceplotter

Coming from rooted evo 4g. Basically same app s and getting 100% awake.

Didn't happen on the evo 4g...

Well whatever battery issue I had went away, been almost 10hrs with a bunch of texts, a few pics take and a bunch of internet use and I'm currently at 62%. That's on Wi-Fi, GPS on and email synch every 10 minutes(comcast)

Not too shabby at all.

Much better battery life than the original EVO. Had it plugged in overnight and unplugged around 845 this morning. It's now just after 430pm and I have 46% left. Battery screen shows 8 hours 7 mins on battery.

I've used it fairly moderately today, the screen has been on for 1 hour and 23 mins per the battery use screen. Sent a good number of texts, surfed the internet, an email or two, checked facebook and twitter throughout the morning/afternoon, uploaded a 3D video (20 MB) to youtube via WiFi, watched a 3D video I shot, made a quick phone call, and was streaming Pandora while I was at the gym (continuous use for 1 hour, 42 mins according to the battery use screen).

Also, while I was at the gym, I first began streaming on 3g. About 15 mins into it, I decided to turn on 4g. When it connected to 4g, no interruption in the stream at all! I was sure there was gonna be some kind of pause...but it seamlessly continued on 4g. I stayed connected to 4g for the rest of the time at the gym, and signal varied from 1 bar to 3 bars.

Quite impressed! This type of usage on my original EVO would have for sure drained it a lot faster

Been using JuicePlotter and JuiceDefender, and so far battery is greatly improved, but, emails dont come in instantly.
Is there a user manual for JD?

Also, my up time is currently 33:09, & awake 30:41, please explain what this means.
This phone is ultra user friendly......until tweaking the battery comes into play.

Edit: emails not coming in, scan is set for every min.
Edit #2: Restarted the phone last night, battery counters reset. Up time: 9:02; Awake time: 8:07. How do I figure out what is keeping up the phone?

Battery life is so much better than my old EVO4G. It easily lasts me through a full day of work. I took it off the car charger at 8:17 and did not charge it until 8:30-9 at night when it got in the 15% range.

My day consisted of some text messages, looking at my phone periodically just for the hell of it, or to check the time. I would also check twitter a couple of times an hour along with email. My peak usage was on my breaks, So I had 1 1/2 hours of heavy usage such as internet browsing, checking all my news feeds, twitter feeds, facebook, xda forums etc and a few texts. And probably 20 minutes of talk time.

So I am very pleased to have made it through a full day, and still have some battery to spare once my power saving settings kick in.

Just had mine off the charger for 23 hours, and I did use it, had 4g and gps on. Played some games, took pictures and read forums. Put it on the charger just now at 20% after 22 hours, 45 mins on battery.

Went on another bike ride and did the same things once again. GPS on, using jogstats app, bluetooth on, music player playing threw bluetooth. Using google maps, with my evo 4g in 3 hours of this I would have to change the battery. With the evo 3D after 3 hours i was still at 68 percent. This is great because before when I had to change battery I would have to stop the jogstats app and save,, change battery,, and then start jogstats all over again. Could not continue with the same ride stats. Now I don't have to worry about this.

You are getting very good usage with what seems like more then just moderate use...I was wondering if you would be willing to share some of your settings or what you have running in your screens...weather widget? Stocks widget? Just so I can see how yours differs from mine...I'm sure others would like to know as well...thanks in advance

Took it off the charger yesterday at 5:30pm, texts, some web, Twitter/FB, some videos, some Scrabble, downloads, took a bit of video, etc and it's still at 40% battery 24 hours later.

Whoa.
