The Official Battery Life Thread

I must be the only one with atrocious battery life. I have been monitoring closely from 6/22 when I revieved it and have been very dissappointed. It is actually worse than my EVO4G and I did not think that was plausible, For instance, I took off the charger at 100% charge. After 15 (not 1 minute more) of using the phone -downloaded a few apps, deleted some others, moved some stuff to sd card - no web, videos, etc. I look up and I was down to 90%. This is with power saver on. I want to believe its something I am doing wrong or setting that I Have since most everyone else is reporting stellar results. Then again maybe I got a bad battery?

OK, I'm glad you're having these problems(no offense lol). I gave the phone a full charge over night, was at 100% a few hours ago. Watched a 3d video which was 3 minutes long, sent about 10 text messages and changed a few little things on the UI and I'm currently sitting at 82% according to the battery life app(curvefish). GPS is off, Wi-Fi is on. I do have random apps coming on(I kill them with task killer).

But really, 82% with very minimal use? I'm less than impressed and this is no better, maybe even worse than my OG EVO.

Bad battery guys?

There is an option in settings to prevent any app background updating. I have this enabled. This also makes a nice difference.

EVO - LUTION 3D

I've managed to go the whole day at work(8.5 hours) from 96% to 4% using it indoors downloading apps, texting, phone calls, playing games, and adjusting settings. Only thing I have turned off is gps, bluetooth and lowered brightness to about 20%. I left background data and auto sync on. I think if your battery life is horrible despite whatever settings you try, then go exchange your phone it's not up to par compared to what others are getting.

Its very early but so far mine has been much better than my OG EVO.

Took off charger at 6pm had 99%....forgot to put it back oon before bed. Woke up at 9am and had 72%. Moderate use before bed. Had wifi, Bluetooth, 3g and GPS all on. I also have autosync for all my accounts. My OG EVO would have drained over night easily.

Ok soo on 6/22 the first day my battery life wasnt good at all... So on 6/23 I did 2 things... First I hard reset my phone... And Second I did some battery calibration by charging to green light, power off(still on the charger) let get green light, unplug for 5 min then replug til green light. Then power on. If u are not at 100% when u power on repeat the process again...

Anywho after this battery has been great! As I type I am at 15 hours 8 min and I am at 55%

Im curious as to what kind of drain the screen is having for the guys with good and poor battery life. I've been on other forums and the ones with poor life show the screen as the highest drain. Does anyone know if the antenna drain for 3G is even show or a way to show? Also, does any have google maps installed? Since I've installed it, I have a process for it always running even when not in use. I wonder there's particular settings or apps that are adding draining the evo faster than normal.

I just got my phone yesterday. New to Android coming from a Pre then a Blackberry.

I fully charged the phone today and had 4G on all day to see how long it would last. With minimal usage, it died in about 4 and a half hours.

I'm going to turn off 4G and test it with just 3G to see how long it will last next.

I don't know if this good or bad battery life since I've come from a samsung moment, but:

I took my E3D off the charger around 8:30 this morning. I was on the internet, texting, playing a few games, and then I watched half of the green hornet. The battery finally died around 3:15 pm. I'd say that's pretty good considering what all I was doing on the phone!

OK guys...here's another update. Full charge to 100% about 3 hours ago, sent 4 text messages and played spider Man for 10 minutes and the battery is at 74%... Gps is off.... 4g is off... WTF is going on? I hope I don't have to take it back.

A bit worse than my 4g with cm 7 and savaged-zen sbc kernel. I'm all right though, my new galaxy tab 10.1 has awesome battery life.

I keep noticing that everyone claiming "poor" batter life is also claiming "minimum" use but that always seems to entail them downloading, watching video, playing 3D games, playing with settings, etc. Those things chew up battery life! I'm definitely a power user and I'm getting a good 7 hours easily with 4G, GPS on. Note: leaving the GPS enabled does not drain battery life unless an app you're using also pulls in lacation data; maps, browser.... I'm coming from a Droid X which had stellar battery life and the EVO definitely falls in the "Good" bttery life category.

I think this phone is going back for another one......it dropped to 64% by just sitting here with nothing in background running. Am I being too critical guys? I've turned the brightness down to 25%, gps and 4g are off and the only thing that syncs is my email. Am I just whining too much? Lol

I got my evo 3d on the 24 everything was a ok then today on my way to work around 1pm I press the power button on my evo 3d the weather animation froze up n the phone shut off now it won't power on at all I put the charger in it I don't get no charging light or nothing I did alot of battery pulls with sd card in n out n it still won't power on I think I got a defective battery n I'm highly piss off

to everyone who is keeping 4G on all the time. That is what is killing your battery! you don't need 4G to update facebook. or to get mms or even to check your email. turn on 4g to stream video or to browse the web extensively. or to download a large file. For some actual purpose. when I use 4G I generally have it plugged in cuz it eats battery fast.

having said that I keep my brightness on auto and the phone has done well. Definitely better then the OG EVO but not remarkably better. some of that is probably due to the larger battery. the fact that we get better batt life with 2 cores and 35% more pixels being pushed to the screen is pretty great.

So far the battery is great!! I noticed a big difference than the EVO.. however, the EVO 3D has a larger battery life but it lasts longer than I thought it would!! I had the EVO on June 22nd and I've been testing it and so far the battery life is great!!

This is going to be long, but I hope it helps people get a good idea of my experience with the battery life thus far:

Battery Test (Day 1):

Started at 99% 10:40am

Brightness about 45%
No 4G
No Wi-fi
No Blue tooth
No GPS
30 second screen time out
Facebook, Foursquare, Twitter, Email, and Weather set to update as frequently as possible
I also have widgets that update on every screen except the main home screen

-20 minutes of regular YouTube Videos
-Downloaded and installed 5 apps
-5 minutes browsing internet
-5 minutes Foursquare
-5 minutes Facebook
-2 minute phone call
-5 minutes of Angry birds
-Took three 3D pictures, browsed them
-Took two 3D videos of about 2 minutes total, then watched them

-Downloaded the Spider man 3D game demo (about 5 minutes)
-Played 5 minutes of the 3D spiderman game
-Played 5 minutes of tap tap revenge 4

By 2pm (3 hours 20 minutes) battery is at 53% (Display has been on for 1 hour 20 minutes of that)

After 2pm:

Brightness about 45%
No Wi-fi
No Blue tooth
30 second screen time out
Facebook, Foursquare, Twitter, Email, and Weather set to update as frequently as possible (until power saver settings took effect with 25% battery left)

Speed test on 3G:

1.5mb down, .784mb up, ping 116
1.58, .726
1.66, .595
2.20, .582, 129 ping
1.64, .815, 116
1.95, .659, 118 ping

-15 minutes of Navigation

-5 minutes of 4G connectivity to test the speeds here in Bellevue, WA (6.8mb down, 1.4mb up in case you were wondering)

-5 minute phone call

I have my phone set to go into power save mode starting at 25% battery (26% screen brightness, no more auto-syncing apps/data, etc) This went into effect at 3:30pm.

I watched a 2.5 hour movie (in a theater) so the phone was on idle that entire time....it went down 11% to 14% in that 2.5 hours. Then I went and ate dinner and exchanged probably 20 text messages before plugging my phone in at 6:40pm

Therefore, it lasted 8 hours today with what I would call moderate to heavy use. I won?t be doing a lot of 3D pictures and videos or playing 3D spiderman most days. The power settings battery analysis attributed most of the battery power to the display and said that it was on for 2 hours and 20 minutes of the 8 hours. Kind of concerning....if I played Angry Birds for 2 hours or watched the green hornet 3D would it almost be dead? That would be kind of disappointing.

The 3D, Navigation, and 4G appeared to be the biggest battery hogs.

Tomorrow I will try to use the phone more like I would on a regular work day (checking emails occasionally, around 30 minutes of web browsing, exchanging 20-50 texts. Based on today I would say the battery is a little better than the OG Evo, but we will see how it performs on a more ?normal? day.

Whenever I look at people's EVO 4Gs I always check out Sprint Zone. Guess what? 99% of the time, they have it set with the defaults. Sprint Zone won't let you uncheck all of the categories, so will need to leave one checked. I typically leave the help category checked and the rest unchecked. I also change the update refrequency to "Only at startup". That pretty much guarantees that Sprint Zone won't be doing any battery draining.

The EVO 3D is the same way!! Turn that stuff off. Also, as others have mentioned, if you are on Wifi, leave 4G off. Maybe I'm just lucky, but testing with Speedtest.net gets me 20 Mbps on wifi and 8 Mbps on 4G. The only reason to have 4G on is if you need to do heavy downloading and you are not on a Wifi connection.

I've had my EVO 3D for about 27 hours now and so far, I love it.

In addition to that, I wouldn't be surprised if the battery has to go through a few cycles before it shows it's true capacity. Just like with the EVO 4G.
