The Official Battery Life Thread

I unplugged my phone around 7:15pm Friday night so I could go to a concert. Took a few pics, sent texts all night, showed 3D video off YouTube from some buddies, FB and Twitter every so often, used maps a couple times, a couple of calls, etc. When I got home around 1 or so, it was at 55%. I'd say that's pretty decent-ish.

Tonight (last night?) I had different, worse, results. But that was probably because the place I went to had no service. Dropped from 99% to around 45% in like 5 hours with not nearly as much use.

Battery life is awesome. I showed my evo off so much yesturday. Shot 30 mins of video. Watched 20 mins of green hornet. Left wifi on all day. Ran on 4g for 30. Played music on myvphonr for 4 hrs. I went 8 1/2hrs unplugged and 45% left when I got home.

I came from the OG Evo 4G, and I had the EVO 3D since Friday morning, so far the battery life way better than the OG EVO 4G, and am in the medical field, I do Altos of calls and I surf the web and I do e-mails and text, I want yesterday almost all day on one single charge..
Tips for everyone, let your battery drain out all the way, than charge it full over night, unplug the phone in the morning for about 30 mints, and charge it back again until get fully charged and you`ll be good for the rest of the day.:)

Yesterday was my first full day charge on the 3D. I don't count Friday because I was using up what was left in the battery before I plugged it in setting up email and apps and things.

I have to say that for a stock Sense OS, the 3D has been providing surprisingly good battery life over the EVO 4G. I haven't done all of the "tricks" to save battery life, just un-checked the always on mobile data. Yesterday I used the 3D more than I had my 4G by downloading apps, watching YouTube videos and downloading and viewing peoples 3D pictures from that thread. I have to say it fared quite well.

I went about 14hours with moderate use and only got down to 29% on the battery. That's good enough for me.

I also am tracking the battery with Battery Monitor Widget by 3c and it shows that this kernel charges to 100%, lets it drain to 97% and then charges again. I don't the the stock kernel on the 4G did this.

It seems like I may be the only one who had better luck with my EVO battery than my 3D. Granted, my EVO 4G was rooted, running cyanogenmod with very little "junk" installed, so it's battery life was probably double what it was for most people running it out of the box. I've been able to disable some junk on m 3D like part of the Sense, but with what's still there it's draining the battery faster than I'm used to. It also seems like the battery takes longer to charge, though that's reasonble given it's a bigger battery. I really can't wait for HTC to unlock the bootloader. I'm sure I can get at least 50% better battery life after I remove a lot of the junk they have on here.

BTW, I was comparing stock for stock with the 3D to 4G. My 4G got about the same life (with maybe a little less use) using CM7 and the SavagedZen kernel.

I went 15 hours yesterday and eneded at just under 40% battery power.

Watched about half of Green Hornet, recorded about 5 minutes of solid 3D video, watched tons more videos, web browsing, texting, calling.

This beast is WAY better than my Evo 4G

Also for those of you claiming bad battery performance, what does the battery usage tool say is using your battery?

Android has this feature for a reason.

Report it!

well I did a Generic test and was able to determine that the battery life with a "normal" day use ( 10-15 calls 20 text 10-20 emails and a couple quick web browsing) it is much better and I may dare to say about 5 hours longer lasting the my evo....BUT THE BIG KICKER IS roaming or no service.... on my evo 4g if I was at my gun range and had NO SERVICE my phone would be just about dead in 3 hours with this one no a problem in fact it barely moved.

Has anyone with bad battery life tried hard resetting the phone? My phone started draining quick due to either some apps or updates that were installed. I wasn't able to figure it out so I did a hard reset and the phone has been great since. I'm logging the apps I'm installed back to the phone one at a time and testing to see what the culprit was.

Sidebar story on the original evo.....gifted that to a friend who doesn't use a smartphone like most of us do (constant browsing, apps, tons of things updating real-time) and she got 27 hours out of the evo 4g and still had 30% battery life when she plugged in.

I was dumbfounded. I would get 18 on a good day.

I haven't done that yet, I'm hesitant to do that because for some reason I had an issue with transferring all of my contacts over to Google, for some reason when I saved some of my contacts on my OG EVO they didn't make it to Google so they didn't transfer over to the 3D, I don't feel like typing them all back in lol

I've given up on the battery life argument. If the phone had good battery life that's a plus if it doesn't then I know I'm going to have to charge it a lot more throughout the day and I'm fine with that. I would take great performance over battery life.

Anyone having trouble with battery charging?

I will charge over night and battery will be around 97-99% but won't make it to 100%.

While using my car charger, it won't stay at 100%, will drain while just texting/internet. It only drains down to 97% or so but It's annoying because my EVO 4G would stay at 100% while on car charger.

Should I try to get another battery or is it supposed do to that with trickle charge/discharge?

Battery was not great after the first charge, but has gotten alot better with each charge. I am satisfied with it now, but i noticed in settings under power there is an option to "enable power effeciency". Has anyone tried this and if so what are the results?

Someone (on an earlier page, I believe) said that the battery will charge to 100%, then charging will stop. Once the battery drains to 97%, it will start charging again.

I was thinking that it was setup to charge like that...

Most chargers are going to be a trickle charge. Once the phone reaches 100% it shuts itself off and just trickles in power to keep it at 100%. They do this as to not over charge or "cook" the batteries.

I'm guessing you traded in your evo so you can't do bluetooth transfer? You can export your contacts to your sd card. Just go into people and press menu then export. I also think signing in to HTC sense gives you a backup feature.
