The Official Battery Life Thread

It seems like my battery life problem is back, been off the charger since 7AM, sent a bunch of texts but that's it, no web browsing or anything. Comcast email checks every 15 minutes through the stock app. On wi-fi all day aside from maybe 30 minutes.

Down to 63%

I seem to lose +/- 10 percent per hour, even with light usage. Is this normal? I can play Words with Friends for maybe 5 minutes and lose a couple percent instantly. This seems like a lot. Any opinions?

See now i think checking every 15 mins is crazy, that is a huge drain all day. I look at email like i look at home mail, if i want to know if i have any, i go check the box. Takes 2 seconds to open up email app and wait for the refresh. Maybe 3.

True, it's a bit often but I haven't changed it even when the battery life wasn't giving me issues(at least what I thought weren't issues). I wish Comcast did a push like Gmail.

I just seems like in the last week or two all of a sudden it's been draining faster.

i have similar results.....the battery life is horrible

I get 12 hours easy without even trying to decide disable radios, stop email checking, etc. And frankly that works for me. All of you guys complaining that you don't get 24 hrs of battery life is kinda strange. And those who manage to achieve those numbers disable everything and use the phone at 5% brightness the whole day. To me it seems like people are trying to "hypermile" their evos and i think it's stupid. Would you do that to a ferrari? Because this is the phone equivalent of that.

the only setting I changed to improve battery life is always on mobile data, gmail checks at defaults, Tweetdeck updates every hour, weather updates every hour.

Last charge was 2 days 7 hours. BUT, since I was off work it was mostly at home on wifi, and since I just got my acer iconia, it basically sat ignored, except for some calls, some texts and notifications.

sitting idle at my house battery loss is between 2-3 % per hour. out in the field, it appears to be about 3-4% per hour. Considerably better than my evo, which was 3-4 at the house, and 5-7 out and about.

I also have a lot less apps on this so far, I have only been installing things that I had on my evo 4g when I finally have need of them on the 3d.

Evo 3d battery

Hello, Ive been using my 3d since launch, all the reviews ive been seeing are saying the battery life is far better than the original evo, im not getting that. Take yesterday, i get off my computer take my fully charged phone off the charger, and go in my living room watching tv, the screen is off...but about 5 hours later i am getting a low battery error. So is there any settings that are messed up, should i take it to best buy to get a replacement phone, or get a new battery.

Thanks in advance

Re: Evo 3d battery

That does sound suspect.

I would first check to see if you have any rouge apps that are taking all of your battery.

First, I would check the phone's battery log, from a home screen go to the following:

Menu > Settings > About phone > Battery > Battery use

What are your top users? What percent are they using?

Re: Evo 3d battery

Very light use by me and 3 email accounts lasted me over 2 days the other day. The battery seems to be working better than when I first got it, but with heavy use it still only lasts 5 or 6 hours for me.

I thought people who claimed they were getting over 24 hours on their phones weren't using it or they were lying. Even when tweaking many things to reduce battery consumption I couldn't get much past 12 hours.

I average around 3 bars at home although the phone doesn't always lock on.

I got an airave - and as long as I'm using the airave I get about 32 hours with a good amount of use on my phone. Funny thing is, I notice it still doesn't always lock on to the airave even when near it but now instead of going from 3 bars to 0 bars it goes from full bars to 3 (when roaming from the airrave to the normal tower).

Re: EVO 3D Battery Life

I got mine 2 days ago. On the first day I got it before work, and did not let it charge cause I wanted the battery to deplete before charging. I worked for 6 hours. On break I did these:

|Watched some of The Green Hornet
|Changed settings and such...
|Downloaded Facebook, TweetDeck, and other social apps.
|Cruised the net and found this forum
|Took my first 3D Videos and Pictures
|Texted and Calls

I went into to work at 3 and at midnight I got the phone to finally deplete all its battery.
If I did that on my EVO 4G I would have ran to the charger on break.

Yesterday was my 3D test. I went to a petting zoo with wildlife I took 60 videos and 20 pictues:

|4G on even though there was not a tower
|60 videos about 2 minutes each in length and 20 PIctures in 3D
|10 picutres in Retro Camera Plus
|Facebook sync, Gmail, and All background Data was active.
|Screen was on Automatic Stock Brightness
|Had phone calls, texts, emails, and social updates.
|Played back the video's to friends and such that were with me.

The outcome 6 Hours and 36 Minutes later, I had a little more then 25% on my battery.
My EVO 4G would only last that long in general without touching it.

The outcome, I love this phone and its life. It does seem that some people might have bad batteries.
Also I did notice a little warmness when taking all those videos. I can live with that though.

My decision is that its the best phone I have ever had.

P.S. I have had 27-35 in the last 6 years.

Cheers and I am glad to be a member.

Re: EVO 3D Battery Life

Welcome and your results would please me too however I don't last that long on a charge and now keep a charger at home, at the office, and in the car.

Re: EVO 3D Battery Life

I'm sorry to hear about some battery life issues. For me personally, the phone's battery life is pretty darn good. I've had the Hero, Evo and most recently the Epic and this one easily eclipses all of them in battery life. I rarely if ever have a problem lasting a full day with texting, email, games, internet browsing, the occasional picture, etc. My previous phones would be almost dead or need a recharge with my normal usage.

hi everyone, ok I thought it was just me but a week and half ago I got a replacement E3d and the first couple days I noticed that my phone was dying alot faster than my first E3d and was starting to get a little frustrated. So I was doing all the settings that yall have here and to no avail it kept draining. So I remembered that the sprint rep let me keep the old battery to the last phone.
So I went ahead and switched out the batteries and I put the battery from my previous phone and to my surprise it was back to lasting 10 to 12 hours like it did before. So can someone explain to me how I got a dud battery? I hope someone doesn't think in some cases its the phone when in my case it was a bad battery. Thanx for reading.

Eveyone says don't use the task killer because the phone is built to optimize and get rid of tasks not being used and whatnot. I noticed a big drop in my battery. Down to 59% in 5 hours, which is drastically different than what I usually get. I went into the task killer and a bunch of stuff that I hadn't used in like 3 hours was still up and running.

My question is, what is this optimization process that automatically gets rid of the tasks not being used after a while?

I can easily get 15 hours or more with my current set up. I listened to 7 hours of podcasts today at work and read through 25 emails, responded to 3 and sent and received 4 text massages. I got home from work with 23% battery left @ 9.5 hours up after a full charge.

Define light, moderate, heavy usage (as pertains to battery life)

Just trying to get everyone on some sort of similar page when talking about battery life and usage (also wanting to see if I'm way out of bounds on expectations because of misunderstanding definitions).

To me usage breaks down roughly as such (this includes talk, texts, gaming, surfing etc):

Light = +/- 15 mins/hour
Moderate = +/- 30 mins/hour
Heavy = +/- 45 mins/hour

I may be grossly under/over estimating these numbers so I'm curious as to what everyone considers as usage landmarks.

OK, I got my Evo 3d less them 2 weeks ago, and the battery life is not that good at all.

I found that web surfing that consists of just reading articles and loading pictures will drain the phone at about 13-16% per hour. If I watch some videos or games with through that then its little bit higher. Also that is on the lowest setting for the screen brightness, I don't even bother with higher setting unless in direct sunlight.

On Stand by with gmail/google talk on push, and 2 additional email accounts checking every 30 minutes in peak, and every hour at night, probably on average it's .5-2% drain per hour. Its little weird though, sometimes I can get couple hours without it dropping anything and sometimes it goes down over a spawn of 15-30 minutes couple percentage points in steady decline. For when not using the phone I think it is acceptable.

But while the screen is pretty crappy with the battery life it has nothing on the drain when I am actually talking on the phone. I just had a conversation that lasted a whole 4 minutes and the battery went down 2-3%. Another day collection of 2 phone calls totaling little less then 20 minutes took off 11%, and another 40 minutes total drained about 21%. I suspect that I would not even reach 3 hours of talk time let alone up to 7.5 hours that is advertised. Is this normal for anyone else?

I usually get 3-4 bars at home so I do not think the signal should be much of the factor in how much the battery drains. I'm hoping that there is some defect with my phone, and I think I'm going to have Sprint exchange it, and see if another one has the same problem. If it does I have them replace to another model, or cancel the whole plan altogether.
