I saw today that the q2 earnings for RIM today were good...looks like they are still kicking butt. Most interesting was 56% new user growth from last year. I see it as, there are still a BUNCH of people out there who still don't use smartphones, and are becoming interested in them...and just like it was for me, the least intimidating (and most importantly, CHEAPEST) devices are the blackberries. Looks to me for now like bb is still the main entry level device for new smartphone users. Of course, after you have one for a while, you realize that thee are so many other things a smartphone can do and be, and- BOOM! android time, baby.
But yeah, so, RIM is not going away any time soon, despite the dire predictions that accompanied the torch release. However, we all know that once you leave RIM, it's almost impossible to imagine going back from your android or maybe ios (i know, me neither

) device.
At least android's growth is outstanding this year as well.
Update and edit: well, further reading and research has shouted me that most of that 56% growth was outside of north america...makes a lot of sense. I think maybe what I originally thought is still kind of true, but perhaps more smartphone neophytes than I thought around here go for android and iphone right out of the gate...awesome!
