The Official Blackberry Convert Thread

Previous Storm1 and Storm2 user... Zero regrets! This thing (DX) blows away both Storms in every area that I used. Awesome device.

Coming from a Storm 1 and 2, with a brief stop along the way for the Motorola Devour. (And man, did I have words with my Verizon rep for selling me that thing.)

LOVING the DX so far. It's like coming from a dumb phone all over again.:D

Agree completely with both posts above mine, coming from a BB Storm 2 to the DX is a great change for me. Not knocking BB, but I'm hooked on Droid from here on out!

Myself and my wife are changing from 8330's after about 10 minutes of in store play time with the DX......They "shipped" today. Sunday, and tomorrow being labor day dont thing they will ship till tues and be here weds. Funny thing is the one we played on in store was rooted and had the leaked 2.2 running.

I had a Storm 1 and Storm 2(which is a mistake, I should have gone with the DInc), but should be getting my DX in the mail sometime this week, and Ill just say now that Im already converted and will never go back.

I took my chances with sprint on their 30 day guarantee and switched from my bold 9000 to an epic 4g. There's Definately some things I miss still on bb, but for the most part, I'm never looking back with android!

77XX. 8XXX somthing then the storm 1 and 2 - to the x - so far its been good, except for corporate email - the blackberry was simply better - I have been trying touchdown, the stock client and am about to put good on - its getting there - anyway, I was able to get bb tones on, and for texts they work, but email is a different story. With the stock corporate email client - tones and notifications are spotty - with touchdown they are good. Anyone else have similar experiences?

coming from the tour 9630, to the bold 9650 (free warranty replacement from the tour) and now to the DX... i laugh because the bold 9650 STILL does not have 6.0. I miss the physical keyboard but the voice recognition and web browsing, free navigation, apps, everything else blows my bb out of the water. I have 0 regrets what-so-ever

Same with me. Left my Tour 2 weeks ago for my X.. Oh, my...that screen......so easy on the eyes. No more track ball scrolling to the left while the arrow goes to the right!!!!

I do miss some of the simplicity of a more "mechanical device" vs. the X. I could point, shoot, save, and send a pic much faster with the Tour. Thats' about all.

I had a blackberry for 6 years and like most was addicted to the point that it wasn't even funny.

Tried Android a couple times and was like eh its ok but.not a blackberry.

Until the X......now I like most are a convert. Use touchdown for corporate and think that Android has some enhancements left in exchange sync and profiles areas......

But if we all think how relatively new Android is......and it is new....and the market share they have captured thus far, imagine a year from now at this time.

BLACKBERRY only can blame themselves..,and I am sure somewhere deep in their headquarters when they talk amongst themselves they do....

I saw today that the q2 earnings for RIM today were good...looks like they are still kicking butt. Most interesting was 56% new user growth from last year. I see it as, there are still a BUNCH of people out there who still don't use smartphones, and are becoming interested in them...and just like it was for me, the least intimidating (and most importantly, CHEAPEST) devices are the blackberries. Looks to me for now like bb is still the main entry level device for new smartphone users. Of course, after you have one for a while, you realize that thee are so many other things a smartphone can do and be, and- BOOM! android time, baby.
But yeah, so, RIM is not going away any time soon, despite the dire predictions that accompanied the torch release. However, we all know that once you leave RIM, it's almost impossible to imagine going back from your android or maybe ios (i know, me neither :p) device.
At least android's growth is outstanding this year as well.
Update and edit: well, further reading and research has shouted me that most of that 56% growth was outside of north america...makes a lot of sense. I think maybe what I originally thought is still kind of true, but perhaps more smartphone neophytes than I thought around here go for android and iphone right out of the gate...awesome!

I have this deja vu experience waiting for the X to get 2.2... sort of an OS6 wait...wait...wait.

Now, BBs have OS6 (not the Storm 2, though) and I've jumped ship. Glad I did, though. What a disappointment to do all that waiting for OS6 and be skipped.

I just got my X today! I left Blackberry after almost 10 yrs and went with a Samsung Fascinate but could not get that sweet droid X out of my head! Had to have one! very cool!;)

good riddance

i went from storm 1 to the x ...like kia vs ferrari had mine for 1 day its awesome...also delivered to me 3 days prior to when website said i would have it

I am thinking of going back to BB Bold 9650. I used to have a Tour, and I liked it, but was bitten by the android bug. After a Droid 1, Droid 2, and Droid X, I am tired of the battery life problems with all of them. I love the Droids, but my Tour would last 2 days on one charge. The BB will do everything that I want to in a normal day (e-mail,messaging, and phone calls) without fail. I guess it is whatever one is comfortable with. If I leave android, I may try again with Gingerbread.

It REALLY reminds me of the crazy wait for os5, everyday everybody on cb.com freaking out about their device and whether it was happening that hour!

I had a Pearl, Storm 1, Bold, and Storm 2. I decided to try the Droid X and was keeping my storm 2 near in case i didn't like it. My wife had the curve 2 and she now has a Droid 2. I got my Droid X and there is no looking back for me. It is so much faster and i am waiting for Froyo to release. I can't believe I didn't switch before, especially since it has push for corporate now.

Just out of curiosity, what are those two things that you don't like (I'm assuming compared to your BB)?

Scott

Scott,

Sorry to take forever to reply. The two things that I don't like are the ability to set different messaging sounds for individuals and delete email off mailbox & handheld. I like the different messaging sounds so I would know if I wanted to respond right away when someone texted me. With the e-mail, sometimes I will forget to go to the messaging app and forget to delete the e-mails off the phone until it has built up to 50 or so. Also, if I delete it off my phone, I don't want to go home download and delete it again.
