After 5 yrs, leaving BB for Samsung Epic

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This was such a hard decision, one of the hardest i've ever had to make with respect to my cell phone. I have grown to know and love every piece of my Blackberry. Never cared to try anythign different. I added an Iphone to my gadgetry a few months ago and after 2 months and high phone bills I cut it off. I was debating the same with my BB and just adding another line and enjoying the Epic, but after tedious hours of research and comparing, I dont think I NEED 2 lines. I was initally leaning toward the Evo, but my mom got the Epic on Friday and I must say (I won't tell her) but the Epic has proved to be the better phone. The visual images and screen resolution is sick! I was in the Best Buy for 3 hours yesterday deciding and left with nothing because I still wasnt quite sure. I took my research to my home and stayed up pretty late trying to decide. The Evo's screen is larger by .3 and I found with the Keyboard on landscape mode, I was able to "go to town" typing away with ease. The kick stand feture is also a good one for home and office. And occasional video watching, etc. However, again the screen res on the Epic is MUCH better than the Evo. Checkout Epic vs. EVO: the cameras | DroidDog Android Blog for the comparables with the screen, pics, and video. Its very clear. I am a picture taker, so thats very important to me.

My BB is my BFF, but after I sat and tried to find reason that I wouldnt leave it, with its small screen and keyboard, I decided its time to go. My BBM is key, also the Push email service, but other than that, the other phones have the same and even better features. Many of the apps that are offered, come on all phones. I saw apps I currently have on my BB in the Droid MarketPlace.

I am not going to sell my Blackberry because in a worst case scenario, I may want to switch back to my trusty bff.

BB really needs to step it up, I know they can do it!!! They can make a Super Phone that contains ALL the newest and great technology but still hold the things that every "Berrier" loves so much. I am hoping they do. In my 5 years I have turned about 40 of my friends and family to BB and they fell in love like I did. Its not called "CRACKBERRY" for nothing!!!

So with a heavy heart, I am leaving for now. Hoping that RIM makes some changes soon and I can come back. But there is so much I havent seen out there and once I tested the waters, I am sold. Technology is ever growing and I'm a techy kinda girl. So I have to keep up.

Signed,
Leaving for now, but would love to come back

Just left 2 years of Blackberry addiction. Still getting used to the new MyTouch 3G Slide we picked up. Andriod apps have been great, but it has been VERY tough getting used to the messaging functions. So far, I like the Andriod system better!

I was there for the first BB Storm (11/21/08) and while I (sort of) liked it after the update last year I now love my Droid X.

Android is taking over... id didnt think i would like droid at 1st but being a dedicated sidekick user until MS took over i went to black berry... i didnt like the BB at 1st but then i was hooked... then i played with a mytouch slide and felt the roots of the sidekick. found out later that the ceo/creator of android was also the ceo/creator of the danger os on the sidekicks until MS bought it... so i feel at home with the G2 knowin that after all these years im still technically with my sidekick!!! lmao... thats my story!!

Converted and still nervous over issues

The Droid X is awesome but My exchange server/ corporate sync is only 50% reliable. 3 days in and I am not able to receive any of my Exchange emails for half of the business day It went out yesterday from 2-7, then today from . My IT department even moved me over to the upgraded Exchange 2010 but I still have the interruption. If this goes on much longer, I'm going to end up carrying my Droid and a Blackberry everywhere (shoot me).

Any Ideas on how to fix this?

BTW- I'm what AT&T called a "Corporate Power User" on my Blackberries. I was a 7 year Cingular/AT&T Blackberry user (7 different devices) and averaged 2800 minutes per month, 220 emails per day, and got up to 3.9GB per month in usage.

I don't use Exchange, so forgive me if don't totally get your issue, but have you tried any of the other email clients on the X (like MailDroid or K-9)?

Also, what's the possibility of forwarding your email to a gmail account? All your responses, as well as emails you start from your phone can be set to say they are from yourname@blablabla.com (instead of from yourname@gmail.com).

As mentioned above, you probably REALLY need to try one of the better available other mail clients for Android. MailDroid is only Exchange 2007 compatible, so you may need to confirm you have a 2007 server available. There is a MailDroid "official" support thread here and the dev is VERY responsive (major update in the next week or so, so may be a bit of a delay until then).

I'm not sure about the compatibility of K-9 Mail, but there are support(ish) threads here to check.

Also, as you haven't said it, I would suggest you force the Froyo (Android 2.2) OS update (Settings, About Phone, System Update). It is SUPPOSED to have better Exchange support, but I don't have any personal experience.

Please let us know how this works out.

I was a die hard blackberry user. Then I decided to go to the Droid Eris, that was a mistake and I went back to a blackberry curve 8330, I had that for about one day and switched to the Droid X love this phone and will probably not be going back to blackberry unless they get something that out shines the Droid X.

For better exchange support look at touch down. Surprised though you are having issues on 2010. I assume the X is on Froyo?

There is a large thread over on the moto boards - it looks like moto messed up corporate sync for quite a few.. me included.. emails are spotty and contacts and calendar dont work. Ironically I can do a global address search from contacts, but it wont sync them with exchange 2003. Touchdown on the other hand works just fine..

Two years with storm 1. Was about to go crazy with all the battery pulls. Loving my droid x!

It's growing on me, but I do miss push mail. I've had to do battery pull when restart didn't get my audio back for phone calls. My first X had a rattle/buzz speaker and that experience was a lesson in how bad Android backup and restore are and that included using MyBackup Pro plus WaveSecure.

The big display, speed, fun stuff, and my daughter helped convince me to keep it.

:-)

True, but it makes for poor integration of other accounts. Also adds insult to injury when you have to pay for it.

Been using smart phones for years, Berry for the last year and a half (Tour 9630). What a piece of cR*! Track ball, bad radio, went through 4 before I found a good one. I'll never look back....well maby just to BBM. :)

Google it or search here. There are BBM compatible apps available. I was never a BBM user, so there is that caveat... I haven't actually tried any of them. But I do understand they exist.

I was a BB user for over 4 years, but just let me say with my Fascinate I will not be going back. I had the Storm2 and the Fascinate blows it away (no pun intended). I do have some questions if anyone can help:

1) I have my work (non-exchange) email set up routing through Gmail as described in the tips and tricks section. I am receiving 2 of the same emails using this method does anyone know of a way to stop this? Also to when I delete the email from my phone is there an option to completely delete vs. just delete from phone?

2) Why does the Fascinate have 2 calendars? One My Calendar and the one associated with my Gcal? I can't find a way to make the Gcal the default one. When you enter an appt you have to manually change the calender every time. The My Calendar one does not sync with Gcal. Also is there a way to default to no alarm for calendar?

3) Is there anyway to make the fonts under messaging larger?

4) When I manually add a folder is there a way to change the icon on it?

Thanks for any help.
