The Official Blackberry Convert Thread

After being on the X from a BB9000 for about 4 weeks now, I can make a few observations:

1. I miss the unified messaging like a crack head misses crack.
2. BBM will be missed as well.
3. I miss Flycast.
4. I miss data and voice at the same time.
4.5 Verizon has a kick *** network otherwise.
5. This phone is stupid fast.
6. Holds a charge very well. My Bold 9000 was dead after 8 hours without a charge.
7. Love the large screen and overall form factor.
8. I do not miss the physical QWERTY.
9. Far easier to set up the phone for how you work vs. having to find some dumb theme to get functionality.
10. Full web experience.

1. Try the messaging icon. It seems to be a unified inbox
3. Flycast is available on android. Look in the market
4. Data and voice is possible when you are connected to wifi

Finally got my shipping info my X left Fri but won't arrive until Tues so much for 2 day shipping. Now I am wishing I would have paid the 8.99 for overnight.

What day did they originally say it would ship by?

I ordered on the 13th and is supposed to ship bu the 30th. Anxiously awaiting shipping info. on mine. Hope it ships before then!

Had a Storm2 @ launch. Wanted to go with an OS that had more support. Boy was I wrong. Dumped it for a droid1 and a few weeks later got the DX. Was really mad when BB said OS6 wasnt coming to the storm2 but they really did me a favor by getting me mad enough to drop BB. Its been heaven ever since.

Need help deciding- a few ?'s

Hi guys. I have had the BB Pearl (junk), Curve(good phone), S1 (junk), Tour (love it, no problems). I am constantly being tempted by the Droid X. But I have a few questions before I spend the money:
1- How is the screen outside in the sunlight?

2- How does the touchscreen work once it gets cold or your hands are wet/ moist/ cold?

3- Can I get SMS in one folder, and different gmail accounts to be received in different folders with different audible alerts? I have different emergency alerts sent to me for various public service/ emergency management entities I work with. It's nice to have each one have separate alerts.

4- Does the voice/ phone work well, and reliably despite all the widgets and gadgets running?

5- Is an Android phone reliable and easy to use in emergency situations?

6- How many different email accounts can you have on the X? I have 10 currently on the Tour and they all work flawlessly. (all are gmail except one)

7- How durable is the Droid X? I have dropped the Tour a few times and keeps on working

8- Can I save phone numbers and set as speed dial that have a hard pause or soft pause that then dial extensions or a long string of numbers?

9- How easy is it to Send an SMS, send an email, make a phone call, send a txt, etc in rapid succession quickly and easily while on the go? I don't want it to be a cumbersome ordeal to do these things frequently.

I think that's it for now. Thanks in advance for your answers. I must say I am a hardcore BB fan and user. This thing just works and works like a champ. I truly wish RIM was more inventive and ahead of the curve as they used to be. I am just finding myself yearning for more in terms of the browser, apps, speed, media.

Came from the Tour and love the X. I thankfully never had any issues that were common to the Tour, just needed a change.

Well, after 4 years and 5 BlackBerrys (Curve, Storm, Storm 2, Tour, and Bold 9650), I just purchased the Droid X. I've read a lot of great things about it so we'll see...

Too bad it when I ordered it online it said the estimated ship date was 9/7!? Any positive stories of it coming sooner than when the "estimated ship date" is?

Various posters on forums have received theirs before the stated ship date, Verizon being conservative on the date. One poster averaged all the different ordered/received dates from various threads and it was around 7 days.

Hopefully this will be your case also.

Not to bash RIM TOO much, BUT...

I noticed today that vxw is giving away a bold 9650 when you buy another one for $99 (w/ contract, of course)
Didn't that phone just come out? B/c I almost bought one instead of switching to the x (best decision of the year). Seems like even their high end phones are going in the bargain bin. Not the torch, mind you, not yet...
But I'm just saying, that's the kind of prices I expect to pay for a feature phone, essentially $50 per. Sign of the times?

The email thing is just about the only thing i miss about my blackberry well that and BBM. The fact that i cant delete my emails on my phone is kind of annoying but not something i would drop the DX for another BB. The BBM is a loss but its not that big of a deal either I had quiet a few BBM contacts but none of them that I cant text just the same, it was just nice having the BBM.

You can't delete emails on your phone? Is this true?

has anyone had any success getting an X for upgrade price even when your upgrade date is a year away?

I had a Storm 1. It broke, so instead of waiting for them to order me a replacement, i got the storm 2, which counted as my upgrade. This was about 3 or 4 months ago. Now, im not eligible for an upgrade for a long time. This means if i want an X right now, its gonna cost me $500+.

Ive thought about threatening to cancel telling them im going to go to Cingular for an iPhone. It would cost me $300 to get out of the contract.

Seems like theyd rather have my $120+ a month and keep me as a customer. But, that probably makes too much business sense that none of the people at the store would even understand...

Bonz...yep. I got an early upgrade at no charge (other than lowest price of phone..basically 200). Verizon sent me a mailer and text with the offer. Here is the # to their marketing dept that I called. 800-508-0727 . Doubt though u will have much luck with only having the storm 2 for 3-4 months.
I think it depends on how your account has been (no late payments etc) to qualify..but not 100% sure ).
Mine coming tomorrow (been driving me crazy it has been in a fedex facility not even 15 miles from me since fri night).

I recently switched as well. I got the Tour the day it came out and immediately had problems with the trackball. I didn't realize this until I went to CB. After that I went through four total. I was able to get a brand new Storm 2 free and I switched to that. I ordered my X on 20 Jul, it said it wouldn't ship until 3 Aug, but I got it 27 Jul. I am glad I made the switch. There are only two things that I don't like about the Android OS, but other than that it blows RIM's OS away.

Just out of curiosity, what are those two things that you don't like (I'm assuming compared to your BB)?

Chucking the Storm. OS6 videos were a letdown for me.
@myester - Just FYI, BB OS6 isn't even compatible with your Storm - so, even if you were unimpressed, you should know you wouldn't have gotten it anyways. I had a Storm before the Pre Plus that I just replaced with a Droid X and I was surprised to see that my old Storm wouldn't be updated anymore.

@zak123321 - I think he knew that. If I understood his post correctly, the point he was making was that OS6 wasn't good enough for him to consider getting another BB...

Hi,

My name is Rockee and I like long walks in the dark nekked while wearing my pink glove on the right hand (it has glitter).

Anywho, I switched over from a Storm 2. I loved the SurePress? and that's about it. I was going to wait for OS6 (lulz), but now I switched over I will never go back. I heart Android and its openness.
