What my original question was if there was a difference in the framework of 2.1 to 2.2 to 2.3. Because I'm hopeing the jump between 2.2 to 2.3 would be quicker because of the similarities to the "unique/complexities" of 2.1 to 2.2.

Yeah, I guess the point is that the explanation that there is such a difference in the development time from 2.1 to 2.2 is pretty much bull****. 2.3 will take just as long -- again, for no reason other than incompetence and Sprint/Samsung not giving a ****.

Yeah it sucks cause my wife needed a new phone. It came down to the evo og, the evo shift, and the epic. sucks but I told her to get one of the htc phones just for this reason. And after messing with it, the sense ui is amazing. Pretty disappointed.

They need to hurry Froyo up onto the Epic. It took forever just to talk my wife into an Android phone and now shes pregnant she has gone from annoyed to psychotic because it was supposed to be updated on 12/26. Come on Sprint!

i still don't get how the TAB has 2.2, Canada has 2.2 on their galaxy S phones, and the nexus S (a galaxy s phone) has 2.3...
but we are stuck with 2.1

I think your missing out on what those three have in common: No SPRINT involvement. The Galaxy tab SHIPS with 2.2, and the other two are, well, other carriers.

.....I honestly think that Sprint has pulled programmers away from getting a 2.2 update out to work on more Evo commercials instead.

Did Sprint also pull the at&, t-mobile and Verizon programmers from getting a 2.2 update out for the Captivate, Vibrant and Fascinate? What is the common denominator there: Samsung

Well, at least that's something - thing is, what's really bugging me about all this is that we don't even have a potential date of release. Not even "possibly the month of <whatever>". And prior to that Twitter, I don't think we've heard boo from Sprint or Samsung since the 26th.

I am going to gather this phone will not get 2.3, just based on phones in building stage, and the lack of upgrades in general!

I am also fed up with Samsung dragging their feet on providing Froyo. Hey, maybe they will just go all the way to 2.3 or even 3.0! Fat chance, they want to sell more boxes. Well, they won't ever sell another one to me. I bought thinking Froyo was eminent. HTC EVO got the upgrade but we didn't. I will be switching phone manufacturers when my year is up (Premier Customer), any maybe even Carrier (Sprint) just because the are not putting pressure on Samsung to do the upgrade!

Just read on cnet that samsung won't allow release of 2.2 for Facinate yet because they want to maximize sales of newer phones first. perhaps same resason for Epic delay?

Edit: meant to say Vibrant

might be - honestly they got me thinking- get the Galaxy 2 with the dual core, gingerbread and 4.3 screen- they will announce it next month and no one will be thinking of the Epic as a frontrunner premier phone anymore.

I sure hope that this phone gets updated to 2.3.

I got the HTC Hero and had it less than a year before Sprint/HTC decided not to update it. I just hope that I don't encounter the same situation again with Sprint/Samsung, but then again when Samsung announces on their Twitter account that "no decision has been made regarding 2.3, and we are not prepared to discuss this" means that I've once again purchased a phone which won't go beyond one update.

I've had nothing but bad luck with every samsung phone I've had. (Instinct, moment, epic). I just got off the phone with samsung tech support and I was informed that there is no timetable for them to push 2.2 to sprint. So with that I will say goodbye to samsung forever. Thanx for nothing multinational company. Live long and suck it!
