...what's really bugging me about all this is that we don't even have a potential date of release. Not even "possibly the month of <whatever>".

trust them, you'll see it "in the coming months" ...december 26, 2011 perhaps?

And prior to that Twitter, I don't think we've heard boo from Sprint or Samsung since the 26th.

I made a jump from WebOS because i was tired of HPalm's "hurry up 'n' wait indefinitely" stance, and nothing but false rumors. now Samsung (or Sprint, or whoever) is feeding us [almost] the same bull.

now im beginning to think: why bother dropping so much cash again on any new flagship phone if the same thing will wost likely happen? by that time 2.4 or 3 will come out but it will take forever to get an upgrade (if at all).

what a disappointment. :(

Sprint "chat" customer support

I thought this was funny so I'm sharing.

Just to see what kind of answer I'd get, I went to Sprint's website, and into their Chat Support.

My question was, "Does Sprint have a release date for froyo for my Epic? And, if not, what is Sprint's policy toward users rooting and installing their own updates?"

Pretty straight forward questions, I thought.

The support guy acted like he had no idea what rooting was or that third party ROMs existed. He kept trying to tell me how to check on my phone what the current OS version was.

Well, I thought it was funny...kinda sad, too.

well i'm sitting here, my epic data is backed up on mybackup pro, and im contemplating on putting on a rom, upgrading to froyo, or at least rooting it. Funny, my pre was unlocked within a week and i didn't hesitate to upgrade kernels, and install themes. hmmm what to do.

Samsung has announced so many Froyo phones at CES and tablets too. Yet they have no desire to update the largest selling phone they have.

DK28 was a joke. It was very slow, touchwiz issues, WIFI issues, and much more.

I am so glad that the TrulyEpic ROM was released. It is FAST with the new file system, runs VERY smooth. The chef is VERY quick to answer questions and has added items in one day if asked. The only thing I miss is the AM Launcher has two less home screens than TouchWiz and the modifiable quick launch bar of TouchWiz is also nice. I am willing to give those up to get the stability and Froyo.

I do not believe Samsung is going to release any update for the EPIC. The phones are purchased and they really have no reason to do it. They are spending all of their development resources making new products.

When my renewal is up in August, I will be sure to get away from Samsung and find a QWERTY slider that works best for me and is not Samsung.

Funny thing is....this is the first phone that I've purchased that worked nearly flawless; so much so to the point that I said I would never root and deal with custom roms. Sad that a phone that works so well still has me contemplating rooting because of the added features that Froyo brings and to compensate for the broken promises. I know everyone says the custom ROMS work well, but how bug free are they considering we don't have a source code to build these off of? All we have is the buggy DK28. Are there are 2.2 ROMS that function bug free for the most part?

Register phones on the Samsung mobile website and do a negative review. Express your anger!(dont curse or anything like that).
You guys have my negative review on there already.
Lets make these guys release 2.3 on us!

TrylyEpic is running perfecty.... zero isues and what 2.2 should be on the epic.

Well I updated to 2.2 last night and I haven't had any problems yet. Actually it runs better. Even the gps locks down without a problem. Not gonna flash a rom yet , haven't had a problem with oem yet.

This is a great idea, I just offered up a review as well.

If thats true...Samsung fails.

Oh well...I rooted my phone a LONG time ago. I'm satisfied with the custom ROMS based on Froyo that the devs have cooked up. I'm no longer concerned with that the carriers/manufactures do.

I use midNIGHT 2.9 without issue. I lost GPS, but that was easily fixed by following the "MSL reset" method outlined on one of the sticky threads in the ROMS/Hacks section. Now it locks on within 4-5 ft as opposed to no closer than 30 ft when I had stock Eclair. Believe me with all the great resources we have here that's almost no reason for not doing some experimenting.

Froyo delayed due to Samsung's fees?

Hey so I just saw this article over at intomobile about an insider's scoop regarding the delay. In short, he alleges that Samsung considers pushing new versions of Android to be a substantial (and therefore expensive) upgrade, whereas other manufacturers like htc do not and do not charge the associated high fees. In response, US carriers have banded together to boycott 2.2 until Samsung agrees to stop charging the high upgrade fees.

While this rumor is unsubstantiated, it certainly sounds plausible. It would explain why galaxy s phones around the world have froyo and we don't. Does anybody have any more info about this?

shift is a quality phone. i would think about getting it but sense ui is way different from touchwiz though. of course i wouldnt let that stop me, but it would be a minor inconvenience to get used to a "new" os
