The official S7 /S7 Edge review thread

Typical first simple review 20Iks, but still looking for the full review with battery life, sound quality, any lag and of course more camera information. Thanks for the review posted

Hi all

I got my TMo S7 Edge yesterday evening. Kudos to TMo in getting it out that fast.

Now I wanted to share a few quick first impressions about the device. I am coming from a Nexus 6, which I decided to replace primarily because I dropped it and broke the screen. I really liked the user experience and the screen real estate. Please note that this is based on about 12 hours with the device. So here we go:

Pros:
1. Solid premium build quality
2. Love the design personally
3. Gorgeous screen
4. Grear camera

Cons:
1. Connectivity issues on WiFi. Have numerous other devices connected to this WiFi and none have the same problems. Websites load super slow and I am not kidding. Even downloading and updating apps from the Play store took numerous attempts as it wouldn't even start the download in time. Frustrating.

2. Noticing the phone warm up - similar to the Nexus 6 overheating syndrome.

3. Choppy performance. Not buttery smooth as I was hoping it to be with the specs and Marshmallow!

I am not sure I like the experience so far. I want to love the hardware but the perisisting WiFi issues plus choppy performance have been concerning.

I am going to give this some more time before I decide to switch.

Cheers!

Do you have the Snapdragon edition of the S7 edge?

Well, that's extremely disappointing. I'm reading more and more about the lag and heat. Plus, I had first hand experiences with both at Verizon.

Obviously, I'll wait until I have mine and some official reviews are in, but I might be holding onto my Note 5.

Problem is, Snapdragon 820 will in the majority of phones this year. Let's hope that this is not a widespread issue with the S7/Snapdragon.

I've never yet owned a phone that didn't get very hot during the first time I used it. There's a lot of syncing, downloading, and other processes going on in the background upon first use. Just like you can't judge battery during the first few days of use, so shouldn't you be too concerned that the phone gets warm.

Yes, please keep me posted on what you guys observe.

True first time use/setup is a lot going on. But, I am feeling it warm up after that as well.

I am hoping it's just a fault unit that I got?!?! I absolutely love the build and design of this device. The choppiness is not very encouraging. It's more evident when using Chrome and scrolling through the page. Android Central for e.g. is laggy n choppy. Same with The Verge.

Define warm up. Does it get unbearable to hold or is it just a slight warm up?

Wow these are the same issues that plagues the S6. How has Samsung not learned? I'm very surprised. I was actually considering biting the bullet but this is the same reason I sold my S6 last year. I'll just see what HTC has coming.

Lol, I love how everyone is making excuses for this phone. "All phones get hot at start-up" "You have to give the battery time to mature". These are electronics, not living, breathing creatures. They operate as observed. My Note 5 has never gotten as hot as the S7 I held. NOR did the Note 5 and S6 next to it running the demos.

Also, super satisfying to see they didn't fix the lag-ridden scrolling. That is so annoying. A user on Reddit posted pictures of the S7 dropping frames like a 5 year old phone. I have one on pre-order, but if Samsung can't get scrolling right AGAIN, I'll package it back up in 5 minutes.

That choppy scrolling will never get fixed. I'd return it. That's a software implementation issue and will be widespread, even though some will doubt it. Google S6 scroll lag. Also, a Reddit user has already posted screenshots of the S7 dropping frames in scrolling....just like the S6 did.

Very odd. When I try the same thing on the store demo unit I have here before me it is butter smooth (using Chrome).

However, we here in UK have Exynos version. I can honestly say that the horrendous scrolling stutter found with the S6 is gone with the S7 in the Exynos model.

@Cakefish - it is?? And you are loading content heavy sites too? I have been trying on and off WiFi, different WiFI, LTE - just does not seem to help as much.

Link? I can't find that.

About your wifi issue, I think I remember seeing this before with the S6/edge and Note 5 and if I remember correctly was related to IPv4 and IPv6 protocols. Again, if I remember correctly, I think changing to use just IPv4 fixed the issue, what I don't really remember is if it was on the Phone or on the Router's settings.

Do a Google search or here on Android Central as it was here where I read about it.
