I been having this freezing microphone problem when texting, But when I go into Application Manager to uninstall the latest update to the Google APP the tab is grayed out and can not be selected. I also can not uninstall the whole app. Galaxy s5 AT&T
HELP!!!

Same here on a Galaxy S4. I cleared the cache and will see what happens. I wonder how we'll know if it is the Google app and when it will be fixed?
Hopefully someone will post here.
Cheers,

Same here, Samsung Galaxy 4. Last thing I recalled before the problem was the automatic update downloading US Language to Google Speak or something like that; it seemed to happen just after that update was installed. I did the uninstall as recommended and no problems with microphone disappearing. Keeping fingers crossed it's fixed for now.

It was the Google update as suspected. Specifically the latest Google speech to text update. Got to Settings>app manger>google speeck to text>select uninstall updates...yes to prompt to comfirm...yes to system preinstalled (original) app... and done it fixed !

I could not uninstall from App Manager but I did this from the Play storeUninstall using the Google Play Store app
Open the Google Play Store app Google Play.
Touch the Menu icon (The 3 lines in top left of screen) Google Play Store Menu Icon > My Apps.
Touch any app labeled "Installed" and select Uninstall.

I dumped the cache as suggested this morning and it is stil happening. I also tried switching to messenger plus and it is hapening in that. It pops up the 'tap to speak' prompt and that overrides eveything but will not close. It stays open over my background photo, every app i open, etc. i reboot to clear it and have rebooted about 7 times already today. Very annoying. It just started doing this yesterday. I have had my phone for one month.

Omg! This is so unbelievably annoying I just got the new note 5 2 weeks ago and this wouldn't quit happening so I took it up to Verizon they replaced the phone and now the new note 5 is doing it I'm going crazy trying to figure out how to fix this without having to restart the phone 100 times a day did you ever find a solution any help would be extremely appreciated thank you!

Tap to Speak is taking up the lower half of EVERY SCREEN except notifications drop down. I can't uninstall Google app undate because the l can't access the lower half of my screen!!!!!! Arrgh.

Just chiming in to say I've also been experiencing this, since about Thursday or Friday (9/24 or 9/25) on my Droid Ultra.
I uninstalled the updates to the Google app and it seems ok for now. I hope there's a more practical fix for this soon, like software update.

When I went into Google Play Store and then hit the Menu button at top left then to My Apps then find Google App and hit uninstall, I thought it would delete the whole Google App but it just uninstalled the update so mine is working great now....Hope this helps

i am not the most phone fix literate person in the world but thanks to this forum - first 2 pages - I was able to fix the voice tap to speak screen freezing issue just by following simple directions! (thank you guys!) i had same issue after a google app update - happened in the last couple of days - only could fix by restarting (didn't try landscape position) anyway i just went to app manager and unstalled google app update - almost got confused almost uninstalled chrome update but i stayed the course and figured it out. My techhie sons will be proud!! SEE BOYS MOMMY CAN FIX SOMETHING TECHNICAL WITHOUT CALLING YOU TWO lol - anyway it works like a charm. The green and white screen is gone replaced by red button black background but who cares? it's not freezing anymore! THANK YOU whoever figured this out!!

Google just pushed an update for speech to text. Let's see if this works. Check your apps and run the update and post if it works. I've already done it and will post again if the tap to speak screen reappears.
