The touchscreen issue (affects all EVOs?)

Do you have the described touchscreen issue?

For me its only the top portion of the screen that stops working when not grounded. seems just like a bad batch since its not occurring on all phones.

Shoot, I just voted NO on the poll and then realized it was because I had it plugged in to my charger. I unplugged it from the charger and tried it and.. Mine does it too!

I was just able to reproduce this. Put the phone on a fleece blanket and couldn't pull down the notification area.

When I put it on a non static surface it works fine. I'm using the Seidio screen protector. I know others have been able to create this on wood surfaces. It's hard to track with so many variables.

It's not the skin, I have a bare stock EVO and it still happens. No protectors, no cases, nada. Having the charger in does nullify the problem.

Curious as to how many other people are having this problem.

Basically, when on certain surfaces, or indeed even when holding the phone in certain ways, the EVO's top half of the screen will become insensitive to touch.

Best way I've found to make this happen reliably is to sit it on some fabric/clothing, like a sock. The pants you're wearing will not work, it has to be something not on your person.

More interestingly, is I found if I put my finger JUST on the kickstand, nothing else touching the phone, while it's on said sock, it will immediately work again.

So, any of you have this issue?

YES, I have same exact issue...

I'm experiencing this issue too. I am able to replicate it on ANY surface (including my wood desk tabletop). It also happens when I hold the phone with two fingers (i.e. pinching the phone from the sides). When plugged in everything works fine.

I use the phone on the desk frequently while working so this is a major nuisance for me. If this problem and the Wifi signal strength issue aren't resolved within my 30 day return period then I will have to seriously ditching the phone (it hurts me to even type that, I love everything else about this phone, but like I said these are big issues for me because I am encountering them on a daily basis).

My Evo has this issue.

If I put my Evo on top of my leather notebook the bottom half of the screen responds without issue and the top half of the screen operates at about 15% of what it should. This occurs both inside and outside of my Sprint rubber case.

I also oriented the phone upside down, so the top was the bottom and the bottom was the top to test to see if it was some sort of psychological thing...same problem.

I have the bodyglove case from sprint and my touch screen is responsive at all times, even when sitting on a microfiber cloth or my wallet on the desk etc etc

I'm going to wait until and watch to see if this issue can be fixed with an exchange. If other posters that are reporting no problems can be trusted, then it appears it can be. I'd like confirmation from HTC or Sprint, though.

Has anyone else been able to reproduce the issue while holding the device like I've been able to? (i am able to consistently replicate the issue while pinching the sides with two fingers but it happens occasionally when I'm holding it normally)

Yes, mine does the same when just pinching the top or side of the phone. Really annoying. Feels like the pre launch all over with shotty hardware. I also have the light leakage on the buttons.

Yes this does feel like the pre all over except they had pres to exchange before....now I waste my 30 day return policy waiting for more to come in

any update or fix for this?

Here's a video of the issue I have been having and I'm not even resting the phone against anything!

YouTube - Evo Touch Screen Issue

It is clearly a grounding issue, at least for me. If I set it on a metal surface it works fine. I went to sprint yesterday and demonstrated the issue and they agreed it should be exchanged. They put me on the waiting list for an exchange.
