I've had the HTC One M9 for 4 days now. It is a great phone, feels amazingly natural in the hands.
But... I will be returning it.
Why?
The camera.

HTC really screwed this one up. Photos in low light are TOTALLY UNUSABLE.

Just a note to beware if you are big on photography with your phone. I do a lot of photography and use my phone alongside my dslr and go pro and this is just horrible. Breaks my heart as I really love everything else about the phone.

If you don't care about the camera get it. Everything else about this phone is done very well

Given almost every reviewer listed the camera on the M8 as the phone's most glaring weakness, I'm fairly surprised camera improvement wasn't a huge priority.

I really like my M8 and was leaning towards an M9. However, based on some of the early feedback I've read, I think I'll wait for a few more detailed reviews on it and the S6. I'll likely even wait to see how the G4 G4 stacks up.

So it's not on back order anymore? I am hoping to have an email by Monday that it has been shipped cause the warehouse is here in my city and I'll get it Tuesday probably which is my off day.

Just did an online chat with Sprint CS.
Lisa: We no longer have it on the backorder list so i would estimate by Friday at latest we should have one shipping for you.
Lisa: Sorry for the inconvenience.
You: No problem, so it's shipping today?
Lisa: As we have updated the report today it will likely ship sometime after Tuesday onwards.
Lisa: But once UPS has it they will deliver it as soon as they can
So it may have been today, but it looks like Tuesday.
Which is OK, because its still before April 10.

Well now their telling me our pre-order meant before April 10th but it's still on back order and us getting it early by pre-ordering means April 9th. That's my birthday LOL! Once before I got the phone before I got my shipping confirmation because the warehouse is here in town. But yeah as long as it's before April 10th I guess that's good but one day doesn't really make a difference to me considering it is probably going to be cheaper at Best Buy. I would of waited. I think this happened with our M8's and I ended up cancelling and going to Best Buy. And I can't believe the rebate thing neither I didn't know about that. They never do rebates anymore they say it's an HTC thing but the phone should've still been $199 making it $149. Oh well guess I'll wait it out. I have order support department on the phone now. Now I am told it is in back order status and it will take up to 10 days to reach the warehouse and another 2-5 days for shipping so noone knows. LOL! So I am not counting on it this week sometime the week after I am sure.

I wouldn't worry, my email from Sprint said the same thing, back ordered. They're probably not in stock yet. I'm hopeful Sprint will send the pre-orders out before it's available in the stores on April 10.
I'm not thrilled I have to mail in for a $50 card to get the price to $199. Just make it $199 or send me a check.
But even though I had second thoughts before pushing the order button, I know I did the right thing.

Ordered my unlocked from HTC.com last night. Will replace my T Mobile G that I paid in full for. Wanted this one unlocked...do not care about the camera... I carry one when I need one.

Major props to Sprint, my M9 shipped a couple of hours ago and will be delivered on Tuesday, more than a week before it's in stores. Now it's time to get a case and a screen protector.

Just got my tracking number from AT&T. I guess they had stock, and shipped same day as promised! Delivers Tuesday. I had ordered from AT&T, and direct from HTC yesterday. HTC sent me an backordered notice, and AT&T send me a tracking number. Just canceled HTC..

Well since you have the phone, I've been wondering about something. And I should probably have looked this up, but I'll shoot anyway. Does the camera perform just as poorly with a third party camera app? Because for a while everyone (including myself) was hopeful that the update to the camera firmware was going to fix the problems the camera was having. Yet it really didn't seem to help much. So is it possible that is just the post-shot software processing is shoddy or is the hardware itself just terrible.

I think I'm going to wait a week or so after it releases and see what issues, if any, arise before I go out and buy the M9. I have all intentions of making the switch to Android, and I believe the M9 is the phone for me.

Sticking with the M8. I see no need to buy a new phone every year. Such a waste of money.

It's all relative. People smoke. They could easily spend 3 phones a year on cigs. People drink. They could easily spend 10 phones a year in alcohol. People gamble. They could easily spend 20 phones a year gambling. I don't do any of those things so if I want to buy a few new gadgets a year and have the means to do so who are you to come on here and say it is a waste? If people only spent money on bare necessities we would be in a perpectual depression.
