Quick question. Looking to finally pick up my first Android device. Here is my question. Been playing around with the TB for a little and my buddy has the fascinate. Pretty nifty phone. I definitely hate all the bloat ware so I'm going to want to root the device. I know nobody knows if the charge will be rooted, but I guess this is my question. Since I have read that samsungs software upgrades are non existent, and the fascinate has been rooted, Does this make it a mute point about lack of software upgrades. Any info would be appreciated.

well Samsung is already working on Gingerbread for epic so i wouldnt say software upgrades are non-existent from Samsung.

As far as what you are asking i dont know what you mean. It depends how you feel about updates. Being a Moot point or not depends on the user.
I could careless about updates, i just want a phone that im happy with

Every phone is a bit different when rooting...evo, captivate, fascinate, require different root procedures.
When the fascinate released...took a few weeks to figure out root and as time went on, got easier. Now we can root the fascinate under 5 mins. DX can do it in 30 secs.
The TB as you may know took a couple weeks to get root....they are starting to get some good stuff there.
Any new phone will have teething probs at the start. We will have ppl working on deving this phone and shouldn't take long before charge owners will enjoy the goodies I do on my fascinate.
When you choose a pro active approach ie root/rom, yes, software updates mean nothing.

Thanks that was what I was getting at. I just didnt want to pick this up if its a quality phone, and not have access to Android updates, etc because Samsung is not known for quick updates. Thanks again

Now I am not sure what I am going to do.

So I was looking up Thunderbolt pricing and as most here probably know 1 year pricing has already been removed from online orders. Previously my price for a TB was like 260 online but now that its gone and telesales want 320 for it. I am already seeing people in my area letting it go for 350 off contract...so now I may wait. I just don't know if the Charge will be able to keep up on a 2 year contract and I am not sure what the re-sell value will be after the first year with all the dual cores coming out. I may have to turn my attention to the Bionic or wait a while and pick a Charge on Craigslist or Ebay. Any thoughts?

Seeing that it looks as if Moto was able to keep quiet about a dual core for their X2, I wonder if the same will be going on for the Charge. Seeing that the prices we're seeing are a bit higher than "norm" and the fact that it's been rumored.

I got a card in the mail yesterday asking me to upgrade and lock in a new 2 year contract and UNLIMITED DATA @ 29.99. Hurry offer expires 4/30/11 So considering there are no deals in this mailer I'm assuming that unlimited data might be going away 1 may??????? No.

I simply don't see how VZW could end unlimited data with no official warning whatsoever. Not unless Lowell McAdam is actually an undercover agent of Sprint. I'm not too worried about that, and honestly I don't see it ending until all 4 manufacturers have a device out, as it would hurt sales of those launching after the cutoff. 1 year plans, not as much. Maybe May 1st is the cutoff, but they would almost certainly announce it soon if it is. I do hope the Charge launches this week though, it'd be nice to have a better option than the T-bolt if we still don't have a dual-core LTE device available before the end of unlimited data.
