Theoretically speaking...

I know of many instances where unsupposrted devices have gotten versions of Android and ROMS built for them, including our Optimus V; for example, tdm's source-build CM9.

How exactly do they do this? Is it THEORETICALLY as simple as building for a different device (albeit similar, probably MSM7627 or MSM 7600 since I dont know the exact phones that have this board) and overwriting with the OVs proprietary files?

Idk how tdm did it for the ov, but for the g1 I just took the cm7 device and vendor files and used that as a starting point for building cm9. I looked at changes tdm made and changes for the htc hero as a reference on how to fix the cm7 files for cm9.

Yeah, I really want to learn how to at least build CM7. This is all such hard work, and Im glad to do it if i can figure out how but Im completely lost.

There's a building your own rom thread to get you started. You'll need Linux you can multi boot if your not too comfortable in it.

I kinda dont trust myself to start a dual boot because I am afraid I will mess something up and lose all my files D:

I have a Linux Vm and Im fine with using it :P
Ive seen several things on makign ROMS

Also, could I build CM9 (How exactly do I do CM9-I m aware on Android AOSP code but not the CM9 code building from source) and inject the Quattrimus kernel into it?

Still, is wubi really safe?

Is there like a 95+% chance that I WONT up any of my files? Thats what i care about most...

I've never really used it... I run Linux Mint mainly. You can use a virtual machine but it'll be slower and you'll want to have a pretty powerful computer.

There's no quick way about it. Your going to be in for some reading

I do have a good computer, but through my VM the internet just is SOOOO SLOWWWW.
I'd much rather have it normally run as a standalone OS.

On Windows my internet is fine, I have 100Mbps bandwith and 15/5 Down/Up (Advertised- Truth is usually 4-8Down, 1-5 up)

Welp. Installing Wubi.
Wish me luck.

On github.com/thebigq there is a local_manifest.xml that you use and it will fork all of the files for you. But if you are going to build, start out with gingerbread.

Yeah, Im definitely starting with a gingerbread. Ill make my own build and possibly theme it after that :P Then I'll attempt ICS with Gingerkernel/tdm's kernel

If you plan on releasing anything, please read the sticky at the top regarding developer rules. PM me if you have any questions.

As far as Wubi goes, you install it just like a Windows program (and uninstall it the same.) It's awesome.
