So there's no way to keep the unlimited 4G forever? In that case I'll just one-year the phone like I was already planning since multi-core stuff will be out in mass next spring along with 2.4+.

Only if you keep the same phone forever and don't change your plan, that means, don't edit it online or it will only give you the new options by default. Best place to have your plan changed would be over the phone since they will only be allowed to change what you tell them to, the website displays all the info to you and when you click apply and you "agree to the user terms" your stuck with whatever it gives you even if your grandfathered in, so best advice is to not change your plan unless its absolutely necessary to, that includes swapping phones from another line.

So theoretically, one could just purchase their phones either out of contract and or on eBay and never have to up their plan price?

That means you changed your phone, meaning you are forced to change your plan.

That being said, I don't understand why people insist to get "grandfathered in" to unlimited to 4G. Yes, it means unlimited 4G for cheap for up to 2 1/2 years or so before you upgrade your phone again, but none of the offerings are future-proof enough (Bionic included) to justify possessing the phone for an entire two years. The people who desire that unlimited data tend to be the same types of people who want the latest and greatest of technology and upgrade their phones yearly.

It would have to be a 4G device, the Verizon test site for 4G LTE on verizonwireless.com that was leaked back in November to test out the 4G billing process showed that devices require a 4G plan pak, and since mobile phones with LTE require a SIM card to operate both 3G/4G, you would only be able to get the 4G plan on your contract with that such device.

So, its making sense why the ThunderBolt is going to be the first and possibly only LTE phone with unlimited data to start off. Bionic might get in there in time but with how Verizon delays there devices, one would wonder

When you enter the ESN number on the Verizon website to activate the device
the website knows what it is by that number, and it will pick out the required plan options, features etc before you can activate the phone/device.

Its also how they block outside devices that were bought on another carrier but tried to be activated on Verizon. I had a friend that successfully activated a HTC TouchPro 1 on Verizon that was actually a Sprint device, couldn't get 3G but the device worked, however after he hacked the heck out of it, he got the 3G to work (not sure how)

Wait, doesn't getting "Grandfathered" mean that Verizon reps will let you keep the unlimited data plan even if you upgrade?

To be honest, the last 4 pages of this thread have confused the heck out of me.

So now that Ben announced the Bionic is coming late April, who is going to forgo the Thunderbolt and wait another month for the Bionic?

the bionic so does not appeal to me.

I concur. HTC Sense is far superior to MotoBlur in my opinion...And, in addition, I think the Thunderbolt looks muck sleeker than the Bionic. The thing looks bulky. Just 2 quick reasons I shall stick with the Thunderbolt despite all the BS.
