There's a storm brewing...

Thank you so much for the clarification. That means BMX did have knowledge of the projected launch date when he wrote the poem.

Strange though becayse BMX said the device was ready to go and there were only marketing items to get through.

Maybe some internal politics?

Okay guys, so I was pulled into a conference call earlier this morning regarding the Thunderbolt and other unmentioned phones and I have good news some and bad news.

Good news is in relation to the 4G LTE data plans. If you are currently signed up, or will sign up for 4G LTE data plans in the near future, you WILL be grandfathered in once tiered prices hit this summer and you will NOT have to pay more than the $30 per month for unlimited. So sign up early and lock that unlimited data in.

Now, onto more disturbing topics...

Bad news is that the Thunderbolt will not meet its previously scheduled launch date of March 10th [AGAIN] and is now moving to its consequent launch date of the 17th, hence the postponement of shipped devices from the system and withheld announcements. This makes sense as to why the announcement was missed earlier this week.

Now, I acknowledge the fact that some of us have been waiting for this device since November 23rd, myself included, but we have to realize that in less than two weeks, this device will be in our hands.

Now, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I am only relaying the information I was told this morning. Regardless of how much time we have left until launch, I'm sure we can all agree that we have a beautiful, and lightning fast device to look forward to within the next two weeks.

well want the xoom annoucned the sunday the week it came out?

To be fair, I think all the dates (Feb 14, 24, 28; Mar 10, etc..) that have been leaked so far were indeed true at the time they were leaked. But issues that we've been hearing about kept coming up (LTE handoff rebooting the phone, Skype not working, battery and firmware issues) and kept pushing the release back so that they could address and fix them.

So Verizon was taking this a week at a time ("is it ready this week yet? no?.. well then let's push it back to next week" - and so on and so on). Hence the reason they've never given a release date. That leaves the door open for them to push it back and get the phone all patched up by release.

As such, this game could continue indefinitely until Verizon fixes it all up. But it has to drop SOMETIME and it can't just sit in a warehouse forever. Barring any major issues that come up, I believe we are very close at this point and with Mar 17 being the planned data all along, it sounds like it's actually going to happen this time. Like, for realsies :p

Thats exactly what I was thinking. Hi Sentrix27! I am following you.

Sentrix is posting at Droid Forums, Twitter, and his own blog SentNation, and even getting quoted in random no-name blogs online as a source for info! L...O...L... From what I can tell, he is a 19 year old kid who may or may not be in college. Why should we believe anything he says? Does his mom or big brother work for VZW corp.? His credibility is less than questionable after being wrong 3 times about things already.

The battery life issue has been addressed.

As a software architect and developer, I am curious as to how Verizon pushes the new firmware/RUU images onto all the devices before they get in the hands of customers (assuming they already have received the devices from HTC). Do you mind explaining the exact process?

My guess is that he has family that works there. I would not doubt a brother.

Agreed. The view from an outsider seems to be that if a fly lands on the notebook page the jot the release date on, they feel the need to change it. Now they are going to announce on one "holiday" and release on another? This will change. By Monday.

Uhhh Mardi Gras is only primarily a celebration in the South with some tourism. St. Pattys day is important in Boston and New York and is a diversion elsewhere.

But... stranger things have happened.

wow

Htc shouldn't even release the phone... it's going to compete with its own phones, the trophy and incredible s. And the closer this phone gets to june, the more likely people will wait til the bionic. Verizon kinda screwed the pooch on this one. I guess that's what happens when you don't care about your customers.

If the phone wasnt ready then it wasnt ready....plus no one really knows for sure if they are going to sell the LTE phones in non LTE area's. So they will need 3G phones for those area's and people want new and improved phones to buy.

I'm just glad that Detroit went Hot back on Feb 17th and I'll be in LTE area 99% of the time.

Seems to me that if the phone was ready it would be released by now. The iphone/ipad2 thingie is just stupid. There is obviously some software or battery trouble.

HTC Trophy is a WP7 phone 3.7"
HTC Incredible S is a NON 4G phone 4"
HTC ThunderBolt is a 4G LTE phone 4.3"
and a very end one at that

If we can go by previous Droid phones, Verizon doesn't take too kindly to sequel devices.

Bionic is the only new device out of the Droid family it seems, Droid X2, Droid 3, and Incredible 2 are sequel devices with slightly upgraded specs, the X2 is a dualcore Tegra 2 phone using the same old X body.

It seems to me Motorola doesn't like to innovate in designs.

and I still think the delays were mostly because of the LTE pricing, they didn't know what to charge

There was more than a little sarcasm in my post, but it didn't come across too well. Thanks for not really ripping into me though :)

I think if you lived through the 1x-->3G rollout you would know. They're (the manufacturers) gonna start making every VZW phone 4G capable very soon. I'd guess that after June or so you won't see any more non-4G phones being produced for VZW. Basically only the ones already in the pipeline (since the dev/manufacture cycle is already about complete on those).
