There's a storm brewing...

One thing to consider though... is that Verizon could offer unlimited Netflix data for a small additional fee. Just like they're planning to do with the Slingbox:

Sling Media Announces Subscription Offering for Verizon Wireless... -- LAS VEGAS and BASKING RIDGE, N.J., Jan. 7, 2011 /PRNewswire/ --

You'll "rent" the hardware from Sling and then it'll stream to your 4G device but it won't count against your "normal" data usage.

Cloud based music would be the same. That won't be free. You'll have to pay for it (which would include the music and streaming).

So, for you non-tetherers... 5GB's will go a lot farther.

Interesting... if that is the case, subscribe by data service.... that may change the way I look at it. I doubt I would use Netflix much unless I was traveling, Skype?? neat idea but would I use it much? Google Cloud.. will have to wait and see but I have a substantial investment in iTunes music and I can sync it to the phone. There is also the WiFi that helps relieve the 4G pain.

Is anyone on here called AcMXenon on the Johnny boy thread?
(Yes i did a search and nobody on this site is called this).

I read between the lines on your post #542 and I think I know where you are going. I also have some info that I am wondering if we can discuss...Can you ping me in private if you get this?

That's all fine and dandy. If I want to use it, I'll drop my netflix plan down a tier (netflix loses) or just skip it on my TB (I have an iPod touch that has streaming netflix and I've never used it).

You won't punish Netflix for this decision... you'll want to punish Verizon. For example, you can't stream Netflix to XBox360 without being a Tier 2 (GOld/Silver?) which you have to pay for. I don't bash Netflix because of this although I'm sure they have some say in it.

It'll be the same for VZW... If you want to watch Netflix on your 4.3inch screen, you'll pay for the convenience. The days of unlimited data are over for Cell Phones, just as things were getting interesting.

Have faith, the environment is cyclical. You used to have pay out the ass for data on 3G but then it became so cheap for consumers and demand was so high, they had no choice but to offer unlimited. LTE will be the same. Someone will come along with LTE (like Sprint, or AT&T, or Tmo) and say, hey, I'll give you 4G data unlimited. The others will follow.

And so dies net neutrality. It will be interesting to see if some services get most favored nation treatment

...all for a phone that has the same processor as the incredible with a front camera and 256 more mb of ram"...

I haven't checked my sources but doesn't the TB have the 2nd generation Snapdragon?
Also, don't forget these features: unibody aluminum body, kickstand, a supposedly better camera, dolby surround sound, new htc sense, noise canceling mic, 32gb card with 8gb of internal memory

The SIM card is required for voice, 3G, and 4G. Without the SIM card, you can only use WiFi or call 911.

I hope the pricing plan is $30 and maybe 5GB or unlimited. My wife will absolutely kill me if it's over $30!

snapdragon, 2nd gen snapdragon- tomatO, tomAto- both are single core and i don't see there being a WOW factor difference between the two.

i think the grandfathering into unlimited data plans is what this is all about- especially since B5n's latest posts have been all about policies and "how they could change"...

The new snapdragon is mind blowingly better actually. The gpu smokes the original by far. The new manufacturing technique reduces heat and adds efficiency and is much faster overall cpu wise.

I wish I could settle for that one. I would if it had a 4.3" screen. I want the larger screen and HTC Sense so I just have to wait.

you can wait for the incredible S. it has a 4" screen. A lot of ppl say that 4" screens are the sweet spot

So there is no ESN#?

What about my generic "TALK & TEXT PLUS DATA $20 DISC" will that be squashed too??

Yes. It has some good points, and bad points. If I have to live with tiered, and for the time being, I will... I may have to get Netflix but not Google Music and not Skype to help manage costs.

First off, we don't know FOR CERTAIN there was battery issues. Second, if they fixed it, it doesn't mean the battery will still suck. A fix/ patch can do amazing things to hardware/software. Also, read reports from yesterday regarding the new Samsung LTE phone and it's battery life. LTE doesn't appear to gobble down batteries like everyone is assuming, based on that report anyway.

We also know nothing about the LTE data plans, officially.

And since when is the Qualcomm QSD8650 that was made available to HTC in late 2008 then same CPU as the MSM8655 that was available to HTC Q2 2010 !? Again, this is NOT the Evo or Inc's CPU/GPU.

But hey, what do I know right? Jump ship if you want. Regret it ? Maybe.

wowww... nobody's attacking you here, man- i'm just saying, i don't think this is going to be the messiah phone we thought it was going to be. i'd rather have any current vzw droid phone on unlimited 3g for 2 years than pay out the wazoo for 4g. and while they may have "fixed" the battery life, i highly doubt that it will last an entire day for power users. finally, if you are indeed right, and verizon announces and releases the phone and says "unlimited data for all!" then, it will be within the 14 days i have to return the DInc and can get the TB. But if the TB requires me to change my plan from the unlimited data, then I'm not going to want it anyway and surely won't regret not having it.

Thats exactly what I'm sayin' and Wichita...REALLY! Wow..that some BS if they get 4G before us because they are not even to our caliber. You they may as well give it Stillwell and Ottawa before the KC Metro then!

I saw that Wichita is getting lte sooner than KCKS or KCMO. I thought that was strange, but, living in central Kansas its closer for me if I want to head out to check just how fast LTE is.

As for me, I'm really not getting this phone for the LTE but for the larger screen and faster processor. I had a DX and VZW replaced it three times and the third one still didn't work well. That larger screen is really a very big deal for me and that's why its my #1 reason for the Thunderbolt.

I got confused by the unibody aluminum body....does this mean the "inside frame" or does this mean the outlside trim, or does this mean both. I am under the assumption the outside is all plastic....not a deal breaker for me...just sayin!

Then prepared to be WOWed! There is a big difference between the two from what I've seen and heard. Don't get caught up in the # of cores hype - not always better.

Thanks guys

The only problem that you / we might have is that he mentioned giving up social networking for lent. Today being Ash Wed and I haven't seen a tweet from him all day so he may very well have gone through with it. Only time will tell. By now hew usually has several Tweets posted.

if the 4g plan ends up being like $50 for 5gb (like the 4g modems) are all of those features worth an extra $20 a month? (plus having a data cap)... to you, they might be, but its not worth it to me.
