There's a storm brewing...

Careful here. I've had a storm 1 for over 2 years now. The *most* I've used has been under the 500MB level.

A week ago, my wife got a Droid 2 Global (she wanted a keyboard and required a data capable phone last weekend). In seven days, with light-moderate useage she's already at 180MB. I think most of this is "push" traffic I don't have on my BB.

From this I'm learning the lesson to not underestimate the amount of data needed.
JFTR, 180MB in a week works out to approx 0.1GB/mo.

Thanks, this is good to know as I weigh my options....

Edit....there is no cap, but the article does state that the carrier will "throttle" the user's experience. If I decide not go with the bolt...and if I look at sprint, I will look to see how the "throttle" impacts users.

I'd look at the date of that posting.. it's 6/2010... my brother says they don't offer that anymore...

I still think Verizon should offer a hybrid tiered data package. So you would still pay the tiered pricing, but you only use your 4G data pool when in a 4G area, otherwise you get unlimited 3G like we do today. So even though you are paying for one 4G tier, you still get unlimited 3G data and it doesn't take way from your monthly plan.

I know its a fantasy, but it may retain a lot of customers for at least the first year or two of their contract (1yr or 2yr). Then once 4G is fully built out, it won't matter that they are offering unlimited 3G and it will phase itself out since most phones by that time will be 4G phones.

after your current/future contract is up you'd have to rethink what tier you need to have and what your willing to pay. Gives us a little breathing room and to gauge how much data we will be using on 4G. Just a thought.

Still on my original storm 1...February 2009. It will not charge when I turn it off, it usually requires a battery pull and then it will accept the charge while on..it has major syncing problems.

I just hope we are not "locked" into a tiered solution from contract day 1. I would reckon we are all going to have to determine usage rates and appropriate tier before the return time...is it 14 days?

Bottom line, I am probably paying too much right now for our two phones, if the price goes up...it will cause me to pause to find out what I really need. At this point I have invested so much time into determining our next phones I just want to get it right.

Once we get 4G speed, most of us will have an increased data usage ... we will be indulging in more streaming media which will spike our data usage considerably. 5GB data cap? That would be scary as we could reach that cap in half a month .. but of course if we discipline ourselves, we can keep ourselves within the data cap. But I feel that beats the whole purpose of having 4G.

A few questions: I have not used other "4G" phones on other carriers so I don't know this. While in a 4G area, we can still toggle back to 3G and use 3G data speed only right? Will that help bring down our data usage? Do GPS navigators with downloadable maps use much data (as opposed to apps like Google Nav)?

The evo has a toggle for 4g since it's a separate radio. I imagine it'll be the same here.

Other "4G" like T-Mobile and att are just speedier 3G so no toggle. But no battery hit either since they are just 3G anyway.

since LTE is a separate radio i'm sure it will have toggle. BMX any input?

I thought I read there is a widget to turn 4G off/on, and I believe that was recently. Not sure if it was from Ben/BMX or from the fella that was demoing it on the other forum.

Those of you that had problems - can you confirm this? :-[

Sorry guys, was working on getting YouTube working properly and left out one silly bracket.

n00b! :p

Just teasing. That's the worst part of HTML... leaving out one silly character and pwning the whole thing ;) But it's all good now

For a while there some of us could see everything just fine, some could only see even-numbered posts, and the rest could only see odd-numbered... and several of us would post something but it would show up as posted by someone else. Crazy how leaving out one silly bracket in the code could cause all that
