They need to finally make a 64-bit Chrome for Android

I've had my XL for a few days now. It's magical. The camera is better than my $600 fujifilm, which actually angers me because wtf.

Anyway, I was just thinking, there isn't any 'big' improvements or things I have on my wishlist for this phone. 64-bit Chrome is the biggest though. They really do need to finally make it. There are real advantages and also, Safari has been 64-bit for years now. They're going to have to make 64-bit Chrome for Android eventually so why put it off? Newer flagships have enough RAM for 64-bit Chrome

Problem - a 64 bit compilation won't actually do anything to Chrome - but it will make that version unusable to any 32 bit phones (which is a lot of them).

64 bits means more than 4GB of free system RAM (not a total of 4GB split between system and video) - and almost no phone has that. Therefore, about the only thing a 64 bit app will give you is an almost unmeasurable speed increase. At the expense of a lot of loss of market, or maintaining 2 versions of the app - both something no software house would want to do.

Google says there's significant gains in stability, security and performance by going 64-bit, extra RAM available is just a bonus and would not be one of the reasons they would do it.

I thought they did? But if they don't I guess they don't want to maintain two versions.

Google stopped maintaining 32-bit Chrome for Linux recently. Chrome is a pretty demanding application since there's so much crap on some websites that just keeps running and running, sucking up resources.

If any Android app needs to go 64-bit it's Chrome but I can see how they would balk at maintaining two versions and 32-bit Chrome (Android) isn't going anywhere for the foreseeable future.
