Thinking about taking the TB plunge!

I have been wanting a new phone for awhile now. My OG Droid (all though I love it, has been having issues.) I have been on the fence about the TB. Especially since the bionic looked to sexy. But I am sick of the waiting and the rumors. I almost feel like the bionic is that cute guy and the coffee shop that I gave my number too, but he just never called me. But, I am hesitant about the TB. Battery issues, no cam button, less than steller reviews. If you think about it, it's like you are in a relationship with your phone. And I don't wanna be stuck in an abusive relationship for 2 years. I've been there with the BB Storm..and it wasn't pretty. The droid taught me how to love again. I just don't want a TB to put me back where I was with the storm. *Shudders* So all you TB people, that have had a moto droid/droid 2/ or X. How does it compare? Help me out!

...less than steller reviews. ...

I missed the less than stellar reviews and I tried to read as many as I can. The only bad reviews are usually about battery issues but that can all be managed with a little tweeking or buy the extended battery. The phone is not perfect but it is really awesome. You have to consider waiting too long and then have to pay for tiered data (if that matters). There are a few glitches that apparently scheduled to be fixed although I personally haven't experienced any yet (knock on wood). There are quite a few discussions on here about people being on the fence that you should check out and consider when you read the reviews if what one person thinks is negative might not really matter to you. For example, some people complain that the Tbolt doesn't have an HDMI out but that's a non-issue for me because 1) I would never use it and 2) if I did I could use DLNA. Some people don't like not having a dedicated phone button but I haven't missed it yet nor have I said, when taking a picture, Man I wish I had a dedicated camera button. It's really up to what is important to you when you have a phone.

My moto Droid was my first smart phone. Got it on release day 11/09. I loved it! But now I'm an HTC convert! :) I love the bigger display screen! I love the speed! my droid was so slow. My droid had battery issues too so my TB doesn't bother me. I've tweaked it and get a full day's use from it with light use. Still thinking about getting an extended battery but haven't decided. I'm still using mine stock and still love it. Haven't decided whether to root it or not.

But the speed of the phone and the display are what grabbed me. My Droid screen while beautiful was just too small. And internet was so slow as was downloading email and using most everything. Againg--stock not rooted. So I'm very happy with my TB. But then again, I got a 1 year contract so I've got options in 10 months too.

Go to VZW and play with in the store and see what you think. That's where I fell in love with it!

I too have not had any major issues. I upgraded from a Storm and my wife currently has a Droid 1. I would say go for it. There is a story on AC about a leaked ROM that addresses the "major issues". So even if the official ROM doesn't come in the next week or so, it at least shows that HTC is aware of the issues that are out there and they are in the process of getting fixes for them.

That was a romantic smartphone love story. Almost shed a tear. Ok...on to the Tbolt romance now. I say go for it. It's an awesome device. Sense is the absolute best UI that I've used. If you do get one,I recommend rooting and flashing a Rom right out of the box. The roms along with these new age kernels will make all of those bum reviews look like a grade skool book report. It's all based on preference and.how often you plan on syncing different apps and widgets. I get a full day out my Tbolt. No prob. I had a D1. Which was great at first cuz I too came from a BB9530&BB9550. After a while the performance dipped. Went to the Dinc. It was nothing short of awesome and I was running straight stock. Got the DX and that was great for a while until performance dipped there for me too. I believe its Motorola devices. There are a lot of users that swear by them, which is great. Personally I haven't had great experiences with Motorola. From now on I'll be an HTC loyal. I do like Samsung devices and LG as well. But the Tbolt blows everything outta the water to this day. Good luck choosing.

I was also on the fence trying to stick it out for the Bionic but once it was canceled, I was left to choose between the three remaining LTE devices (I already have the iPhone 4, which I love) and the Thunderbolt had the edge in my opinion because of Sense. All three (Thunderbolt, Revolution, and Droid Charge) have 1GHZ processors but neither the other two have more RAM than the Thunderbolt. Beyond hardware specs though, the software was important to me because that's the part of the phone you're going to be experiencing daily (unless you change it, of course). The three options are Sense (gorgeous and functional), TouchWiz (lagging iPhone rip-off [and I know from experience as I had and returned the Fascinate]), and nearly stock Android on the Revolution, which is great for hackers but often less appealing to the average user. Plus, the Droid Charge has a smaller screen, but it's much brighter than the others.

So all in all, it's really all about personal preference; and personally, I couldn't be happier with my Thunderbolt. So far I even like it as much as my iPhone 4, which is quite a big deal. It's easily the best Android phone I've ever had (and I had roughly ten across multiple carriers, including the original Android phone, the G1 and basically every high-end one that Verizon has ever released). I've also had over 200 phones in total, and the Thunderbolt easily ranks in my top 5, which I think is pretty impressive.

Hope that helps... :)

Oh, and I loved your analogy about the abusive relationship with your Storm. Pretty hilarious. :p

Go for it. I came from the BB Tour and was trying to hold out for the Bionic but after they said "No more 1 yrs after 4/17" I had to go for it.

My conclusions?

I SHOULD HAVE DONE THIS MUCH EARLIER. WTH WAS I WAITING FOR?!?!?

:)

Yeah WTH was your problem? LOL. J/K. Although you seem to be a lot more excited and enthusiastic than a lot of people since you waited though.

Oh and I forgot to mention (well, more like reenforce what others have said) that battery life could be a lot better. It isn't the worst in the world, but it can be pretty bad, though there are ways to get around it. I make it through the day with light usage with about 60% left. With medium usage, it's more like 30%-40%. And then with heavy usage, it's tough to make it through the day (but that's with really heavy usage).

We also can't forget that the Thunderbolt (and I believe the Revolution) come up with a whopping 32GB memory card! That's actually quite a good value when you think about it considering Verizon charges $149 for them. It's especially beneficial with the Thunderbolt because you can put movies on it and use the kickstand! :D

Dude I was at the store DAY 1. I saw the TBOLT box. It was there, looking at me. Talking to me. Teasing me. Then they said "well sir, you're gonna have to wait until 4/24 (NE2) to setup a 1 year contract."

I pleasantly walked out, and told myself... I've waited this long, I can wait a little longer.

Then VZW turned into a sneaky weasel and left me with no choice!

I'm a VERY enthusiastic person my friend. Hard to get me/find me in a bad mood :)

You do realize that one year contracts are done now right? as of April 17 it is month to month or two year only.

Yup. Thats why last week I called them and asked if there was anything they could do to move my upgrade up so I could get the Bolt on a 1 year. And thats exactly what happened ;)

The Thunderbolt may not have a dedicated camera button, but you can put a shortcut icon for it on one of the screens. Touch that picture and the camera option starts right up. I put mine right on the homescreen itself.

Just an update for you all. I ordered my TB yesterday at noon. Should be here thursday or friday. I am excited!
