Thinking about trading my Note 8 for a Pixel 2 XL

moving to Pixel 2 XL is a downgrade. i think its boring phone, lots of features taken out. basic phone with a high price tag. also cheap screen.
unless your a enthusiast, like rooting, custom ROM's, messing with kernels etc then get pixel 2 XL is right for you.

I was torn between the pixel 2 and note 8. no wireless charging, Samsung pay.
but the ar stickers that the xl has now are super cool and are something that would push me away from Samsung.

I might have looked into the Pixels but one is made by LG and the other HTC. Now I know they aren't supplying the OS but after owning those brands before I just don't want another, I like Samsung more and the Note 8 feels perfect to me.

Bro I have nothing side by side right now. Do you? I have better than 20-15 vision come on. If that makes you feel better fine. Merry Christmas.

I have both. The XL2 offers a lot of good things, but a screen comparable to the Note 8 is not one of them.

I'd like to have the Pixel 2 just to get the earbuds that can translate on the fly. That would be neat to have

Yeah. I have a note 8, pixel, pixel XL, pixel 2 xl, s8 plus, u 11, iPhone 8 plus and a iPhone 7 plus. We can list phones all day long. I've seen and worked with them all. The pixel 2 xl screen is absolutely NOT good enough and is worse than every phone listed. There is a reason everyone says it's not very good. It isn't.

Oh hell no! Crazy to even consider that. The Note 8 gives so much more. Wireless charging, Spen, no blue tint.

I'd even take the S8 Plus over the Pixel 2 xl.

Still on September security patch though I've heard? That would leave samsung devices still vulnerable to KRACK if I'm not mistaken.

Ok seems you’re the best person to ask then. Is there any known use of these vulnerabilities on any of the millions of recent Android handsets and if there has been what is the reach of the attack? I read people describe scenarios where smartphones are at risk but I have not heard of any news reports on any of these exploits actually causing issues for anyone. I’m not saying it can’t happen but what are the real chances of it happening? This is a serious question because as of right now I don’t care to pick a stripped down phone like a Pixel based on a one in a hundred million chance when I can choose a feature packed Note 8 instead, but I would definitely consider it if the odds are more like one in a thousand.

Very good and very relevant question. In both cases, Blueborne, and KRACK, nothing has been reported. Because both of these attacks are so stealthy, it’s not out of the realm of possibility that—since they are now known attack methods—they have started being used without victims knowing that it’s happening.

I'd say that for the average individual, considering that an attacker has to be around 30 to 50ft away (longer for KRACK than Blueborne), it's not likely that you will be a victim of this. But if you are, you wouldn't know it, and anything you enter in your smartphone could be seen by the attacker. Since I feel like more of a target because I'm an exec at a cyber-security company, I am more cautious probably than others. Hackers like going after cyber-security companies to prove some point or other. So yeah, no need to panic...

I don't know. I wish Samsung made a pixel ... Ha ha.

I get that the Pixel is all about the experience. I had a Nexus 4 way back when. Back then the reviewers called it buttery smooth. I guess if I did get one I'd get the small one made by HTC. After owning Nexus 4, the G3 and G4 and now the S7 after forced trade of Note 7 I love the feeling of premium hardware and had too many glitches with LG. Perhaps that makes me shallow.

One thing I liked about Nexus was using Google everything without any choices to make. That's why I sort of wish for a Samsung Pixel.

The flat screen is a huge upgrade to me but the picture on the Sammy screen, the little flat part, is better.

I use the S-Pen, daily. That's the only reason I came back to the Note line. Otherwise, the Pixel XL is a fine device.

On average the Pixel will beat out the Note when it comes to the camera, Google Assistant integration and generally speaking is smoother. If u take a lot of pictures it's definitely the way to go. The unlimited storage is big and the squeeze feature is something every phone should have, especially the larger ones.
That said for me the N8 is the best overall phone that's available. I have both, and I keep going back to the N8 as my daily.

I too concur with a lot of what everyone is saying. I was listening to android central podcast this morning and a comparison between the Note 8 and Pixel 2 camera quality came up. Google just nailed it on the head with how it incorporates the CPU processor to create an amazing picture. That just pure coding backed by fricken bright engineers. No amount of hardware specs can match that. Samsung still have a long way to go on that department; however, if you take away the best camera and add-on all the features this phone packs in, it is hard to justify downgrading to a pixel 2 if one already own a Note 8. I've been perusing the pixel 2 forum and I too see lots of users experiencing issues with their phone.

Do you use all those phones??

I had a Pixel 2 XL on pre-order and was really looking forward to the device. I wanted to stay away form Samsung after the S3, especially since their customer service is atrocious. However, the massive blue tint, screen burn in, lackluster hardware, I went with the Note 8. Love it. They have since updated the 2 XL but the display is still bad. I am waiting until Google can manufacture their own devices before I go back. Judging by the way Samsung handled m trade-in, I won't be purchasing another Samsung phone again. Hoping Google can get it right the third time with the acquisition of HTC.
