Thinking about trading V20 back for S7 Edge

I miss my Note, the amoled display, and the curved edges.

Am I out of my mind thinking about trading in a week old phone for some that came out Spring 2016???

Simply put... You like what you like. If you miss those things enough go for it.

I'm thinking of going to the S7 Edge as well. This phone is just so basic. It's way too much money for really no bells and whistles. The more I use it the more frustrated I get.

I wanted to trade for V20, but a lack of wireless charging, water resistance, immediate focus and amazing low light photos, and screen is much brighter on S7E, i kept mine S7E.

However, i'm thinking about the new Mate 9 phone, it seems killer.

Anyone who's posted low light pics with the V20- they look great.. except the house you took the picture of, or the row of pumpkins is a still subject. I was taking pictures of my daughter at a birthday party and couldn't get a usable shot. I know how to take better than average quality pics as well. I used my wife's iPhone 7plus, along with my work phone (GS6), and had zero issues. My subject wasn't something that sat still to let the laser auto focus do its thing. It was a crazy 5 year old running around with her friends. Manual mode? Much better, yes. But I have my DSLR for situations that call for that. Really liked the V20 though. The design, the screen size, how snappy it was, etc. Just wasn't happy with the camera.

I could play with the manual controls and get better shots but usually I don't care enough to do that an auto is just fine. I'm not very picky when it comes to photos unless the result is just too poor for even my photo tastes. I've got a Sony Alpha A700 DSLR (circa 2009) ready if need be. Poor thing hardly ever gets turned on any more. Only when I'm going to a "special" event.

I'm confident that I can get shots that are good enough quality with the auto/manual controls of my V20s, V10, or S7e... whichever I'm using for that day. I'm going to purposely try to get a lot of shots with this V10 today and see what this girl can do with a phone.

The V20 camera may not be as good as my S7e and I do notice it. It is however good enough that I don't feel like I even need to switch phones to take a pic in low light.

You must have some really smart Neighbors :)

Use what you like not what everyone else likes. That's the pros and cons of it.

I dislike the curve. Especially the more pronounced one on the 7E. Makes the actual legible surface 5.2". Prefer my Note 4 any day and has same storage space.

I will test the V20 out for a week and see if prefer over my Note 4. Well, whenever BB ever gets the Verizon version..... Want that $200 credit that is $0 from Verizon for same device.

I went from the G3 to the Edge and then to the Note. I ended up hating the screen on the Edge after using it for a few weeks because I was always triggering something accidentally with my palm or some other way when I switched positions with the phone (like going from vertical to horizontal for video viewing or picture taking).Seems like I would always hit the power button or spawn the edge apps unintentionally.

I also ended up hating the "fish bowl" effect the edges produced when trying to read web pages. I would typically end up shrinking the page to keep text off the far right and left hand edges of the page trying to work around this, but with apps like Flipboard where resizing isn't an option this wasn't an ideal workaround. It's also just a PITA and makes the pages even smaller and harder to read. It's been great to both reclaim that lost screen real estate and to get rid of the annoying effect those edges had on text. The Notes screen edges were far more subtle and I could deal with the text distortion way easier. There was just no way I could see myself going back to the S7 Edge.

Both the Edge and the Note are beautiful phones and I preferred their camera's, but when it comes to usability I'm enjoying the V20 far more. It's also been great having the IR blaster back (I didn't consider how much I would miss this when getting rid of the G3) and having app shortcuts on the second screen I'm finding is way easier to launch them quickly and consistently with the second screen than trying to trigger the edge panel, find the right one and then launch the shortcut from there. It always seemed faster to just minimize to the desktop and launch from there rather than try to get the edge apps to work. I also don't get why people are calling the second screen a gimmick, those app shortcuts have really made using this phone enjoyable. I just wish we could choose more than 5 icons or have 2 icon trays to choose between and maybe get rid of settings etc.

I really liked the Note, but I've found myself having a far easier time operating the V20 on a daily basis.

You may have a hard time, leaving your comfort zone. It can be hard to make changes at time. But you never know till you try.

I like the LG V phones. Trying to keep both, the 10 for my backup etc.

I'm on my V10 right now. Gotta be honest there's nothing to dislike. However, I got it the same time I got my 2nd V20 and it doesn't make a lot of sense to me (right this moment) to have 3 phones that are so similar. Even if they're all great. I may...may return the V10 and get something else. Tiring think about it but gotta have hobbies.

Listening to my Grado GS2000e off the V10 right now really gives me an appreciation for the power of the Burson HA-160D they're usually connected to. The V10 offers sound that is very clean but notably lean. Still, for a phone...not bad...not bad at all.

The camera will be my decider as well. If I have to mess with settings to get good pics and can't simply tap and shoot, I will return it. Opinions are all over the place, so the best thing is testing for self. Seems LG has not optimized their photo software for auto and are relying too much on manual. I have a camera with a real zoom lens that I use for manual pics.

Phone camera to me is a convenience and having to mess with manual for photos is far from convenient. Now, if you can edit the auto settings to optimize and then save as default auto mode- THAT would be a good compromise.

That all said, I would take my Note 4 any day over the Edge. The curve makes go Hannibal and Note 4 has same storage. The Note 4 after the MM update takes very good auto pics (low light not as good as the 7E though).
I still haven't replaced my n7 but the v20 may be my first choice. I've been in several times to try it out and in my hands the camera sucks. What I like to do to compare cameras is take pictures of fine print on vzw sales display cards. The gs7 pics look very good even when I zoom. I can't get one good shot with the v20. There's always a wavy area around each letter like the letter is in focus but the paper isn't? Or perhaps even minimal zooming (after taking pics using fingers to enlarge) creates wavy appearance like there are not enough pixels in the image for even slight enlargement. It ruins the phone for me. I tried HDR on and off and it made no diff. Set on 6mp 4:3.
