Thoughts after using Bionic plus pictures

Wow! Very impressive Quad score!!

My D1 overclocked to 1100 running liquid gingerbread hit 1280 and i thought that was high! lol
I was expecting something much higher. :-/

How is the SGS2 over 1000 points higher on Quadrant? It's mind-boggling.

We will see. If best buy is paying 589 per phone I'm sure verizon is too. They are not going to break even.

There is a difference in cost to Verizon vs Best Buy. Those sweepstakes go by retail value, not wholesale value. I bet Verizon off contract is under $600.

Killer, was there anything in the manual showing what you wanted to know? I was just getting to the camera section...

I read it as well, didn't see anything. I know there's like panorama and stuff, but I want like REAL camera settings, I don't want black and white, I want to control my ISO, aperture, that kind of stuff. I don't expect a lot out of a smartphone, but I want what should be available.

Well that settles it, screw the Prime, screw the Vigor; there's no way I can pass this thing up, it's time for me to finally get my first smartphone!

Yeah this is my first smartphone too, this thing looks too awesome to pass up and I have a real thing for Motorola.

Just to help out...... according to the Moto Rep in our store today: It is Gorilla Glass and the bootloader is unlocked.

And the news keeps rolling in! YES! Heck yes, I love Gorilla Glass, and I'll be happy that I can put custom ROMs on there when I want to.

It's been said before, it's a smaller resolution, less pixels to push at a time on the GPU/CPU. And also there's probably a small difference in the skins, Samsung's may be better programmed to run with less bulk on it to run faster. Don't hold me to that, I don't know, I'd have to actually compare them both side by side, Touchwiz and Blur-that-shall-not-be-named-Blur

r

That would be awesome about the bootloader if true - but I find it hard to believe. Not questioning joeym2, but I doubt the Moto rep and I believe that we would have gotten word from the guys who rooted the Bionic if it had an unlocked or unsigned bootloader.

I thought the root was on a system dump, not on the actual bionic... wouldn't you need the actual device to determine bootloader status?

Holy crap! This thread has had over 17,000 views in less than one day.

I guess there are a few of us with "Inquiry minds" when it pertains to the Bionic.

Thanks Joe! All this new info is getting me more pumped.

Quadrant means nothing. Here is the best score I managed to get on my OC'd OG Droid just to show how ridiculous quadrant is :

Quadrant is everything right now. We're phone geeks and right now not much else matters. The Bionic's OMAP 4430 can't hold a candle to the Exynos 4210 - the Galaxy's chip is also clocked higher. I believe the OMAP 4430s can be clocked up to 1.2GHz but Moto didn't crank it for the Bionic - probably to save battery life - which we can all appreciate too.

The first root was done on a bionic today by P3 and TBH. The actual device. The bootloader was encrypted as expected. They definitely would have told us if it was unlocked. But root is pretty cool and being able to remove bloatware will make me a happy camper.

They should have went with the OMAP 4460 that would be clocked at 1.5GHz.

But also battery sucking, are you seeing the trend of the clocking of CPUs and their responses? An underclocked CPU is going to have better battery life, they do it because when you're using the phone it DOESN'T MATTER if it's clocked at 1.0 or 1.5 GHz, you're still going to see amazing performance because there are no apps in the marketplace that need that kind of raw power. Even if you load tons of apps and widgets, it'll still be smooth.

We already know it's $589.99 from VZW.

Where do we see VZW saying it's $589.99? The only thing I see if DroidDoes.com saying it's $589.99 and that is out right wrong. DroidDoes.com states that the "Approximate Retail Value" is $589.99, now since when does Approximate equal 100%? It is not set in stone to be set at $589.99.

If it doesn't matter then why did we all overclock our OG Droids? Yes it does matter. The better the chipset the better the device can handle the OS and the apps and tasks we throw at it. We overclock to overcompensate what was given to us.

I agree that this is the case TODAY but 12 months from now when we all will be doing XYZ with our phones we'll be wondering why they put a good (not great) chip in the phone.

Look on Verizons site for the full retail of a device and then call Best Buy and ask. Its pretty much confirmed that that is what Verizon is going to sell it for.

Right. Verizon never shown any retail pricing. So let me get this straight...vzw is selling retail for $589.99....it cost best buy $589.99.

What do you know.... the same value down to the penny. Concidence???

Actually, it looks like the phone will retail for $700. The 589.99 is the cost to companies. Add retail markup. See Phandroid. This is the first and only screen shot of what seems to be an internal document. The title of the doc is "9%204%202011%20...." If you look at web searches it will replace a space with %20 so that makes the title "9 4 2011 pricing". This would be a screen cap of a document on BBY's internal web service making it seem semi-legit.

If you look at the Bionic's line it reads: VZW Moto Bionic SKU Cost (to BBY) retail (to customer) contract pricing.

If you can find me another pic with a brownish background of BBY's internal stock app called RSS (Retek) I can give you more info.

EDIT:

Droid Attic

I can confirm all of these screen shots are from ETK (Employee Tool Kit). Retail at BBY will be $699.99 as shown in first shot.
