Thoughts on the January update?

Google, obviously has a serious problem with their chip. In my opinion, the big question is whether he will be able to solve it, probably with another generation. Too bad, the Pixel 6 is, in my opinion, a really nice phone. Also, Google's autism towards users is irritating. At the moment, it seems that the buyers of Pixel 6 phones are in fact beta testers ...

We just need more patience.

I don't think so. If I've paid $900 US for a phone, I'd expect it to reliably make and receive phone calls and SMS, just as I would with any other phone at any price range.

I think being patient is absolutely not what we should be and we should be pressuring Google and other OEM's to do better. If I didn't roll back to the November patch, that'd be nearly two months of sketchy reception (assuming the January patch fixes the issue), which imo is not acceptable.

Yes I can see the point with connectivity issues. I would not tolerate that. Luckily I have never had those issues. I think I am just lucky with the device shipped to me. I have some bugs but nothing as major as that.

The bugs are starting to get really annoying though. The stupid bug where you click on something and it does nothing until you back out of the app and go back in, are now in the YouTube app. I was trying to click on short videos, and it just would not load anything. So I swiped the app away, and when I went back in the couple of videos I had selected kept playing. Now this keeps happening the amount of times you clicked on the video. Why is Google in such shambles? Every app is screwed up, there are glaring bugs that should have been caught months ago. Is there QA really this atrocious?

I've not had those problems.

Really hoping this updates fixes a lot of problems people are having with these phones. The only thing holding me back is supply and waiting to hear how this update goes. Really not liking how they botched the December update

I'm not having these problems either.

Hey that's great. Other people are experiencing issues. I'm one of those people. This phone has been pretty disappointing. I've used Google phones since the galaxy nexus days, and I can't think of another phone that has been this inconsistent since. If I had the connectivity issues others are facing I would have dropped this phone so fast. I'm experiencing a lot of UI glitches, which is more of an annoyance than anything else. I'm hoping the upcoming updates fix these issues, otherwise it might be time to check out another phone manufacturer. Here's to hoping Google can get it's act together.

Yeah man for me the January update is it, if things are fixed then great, if not then I'll sell it.

Actually, recalls happen a fair amount for cars. And Windows PCs are constantly getting patches. Would you consider that beta testing?

I realize it's frustrating. I'm just saying that it happens throughout the industry and in other industries as well.
Not sure why some think pixels are beta tester, if not happy with a brand there are plenty of Andriod or even Apple out there . If I was having lot of issues and not happy I would sell it and use that money towards something else.

I agree... as usual ;)

Not all people are in the position to sell and take a big hit on a phone. Pixels are not noted to retain their prices, and might be tough to sell with all the bugs being noted and more importantly, a lot of these bugs are noted by google; having held off their January update till the end of the month because they need time to work on the bugs.

With a statement like this from Google:
"The Pixel team paused the December software update to Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro devices after some users reported calls were dropping or disconnecting. We have now identified a fix that will roll out in a software update by late January. This update will also include all the fixes and improvements that were originally planned in December."

It might just make others shy away....one example is me!

Some may just want to have hope that the bugs they are having will be taken care of by Google because they like the phone but are having problems and giving Google just one more chance.

It will be interesting to sit here and read if the fixes are fixed. And I will be doing that and keeping an open mind.

I guess maybe waiting to purchase the phone rather than getting it early to see what the issues are at launch might be an option. Had I known the phone would have reception issues, I wouldn't have bought it until I saw it was fixed, but here I am, had a phone which was barely usable until I rolled it back to the November patch.

For some reason, despite the decade plus of selling phones, Google still seem to have major issues with phones at or near launch. Their QC seems to be rather lacking compared to competitors. If they want new customers to become returning customers with the Pixel 7/8/9, they have to make sure their phones are largely bug free. Customers aren't going to tolerate bugs and issues, especially if their previous phone from a different OEM had less bugs than their new Pixel 6.

I'm not just referring to bugs the reason why tring to sell the phone , this goes before December update , some don't like picture quality, fingerprint scanner , battery not lasting long . Most have a 14 day window to return the device or take a loss and sell if past that. As mentioned bugs happen across Andriod Manufacturers just like this , it happens, you can try roll back to previous version . Yes I would take the loss if I wasn't happy and that goes for any product. Then you have users are not effected by the bug like me and few others on December. I definitely like to see them address this as soon as possible and it does suck you have to wait until the end of January but have to wait and see and I believe majority are going be taken care of especially cellular bug .

I think we should be asking why there are so many bugs in the first place.

Was everything rushed in order to meet an arbitrary and unrealistic deadline for release? Has Google lost some of its better people, leaving the duds behind, or just what is going on?

Google is not a shining example of transparency and honesty when they screw up.

Google doesn't deserve a pass on this. The main reason to get a pixel is timely updates, and the latest Android features. Which they failed miserably on in Dec. Their lack of transparency about the issues just makes them look incompetent, or worse arrogant.

My 6pro is holding up ok, however I'm dealing with a bunch of UI glitches which would have been fixed with the feature drop. If they can't even deliver on the main reasons to get a pixel, why should we trust them with anything else? This has been the buggiest phone they have launched in a long time. Cool you guys be patient with a multi-trillion dollar company who uses us a beta testers because it's easier I guess....

You said you're dealing with a bunch of UI glitches. Can you specify? Do these glitches make the phone unusable?

I have UI glitches as well, but I can't say a bunch. The ones that really annoy me are when I put my pixel in my pocket and then after awhile I go to take it out and the screen will not wake up unless I hit the power button. The next has to do with the FPS. Sometimes it just freezes and still does not respond, then a second later (lag) it responds. And, lastly, the adaptive brightness is too sensitive and that's not an Android 12 thing. It's a pixel 6 thing. I have no issues like this on my pixel 4xl either before or after the Android 12 December update! Those are my 3. It's not a bunch and the phone is still joyful to use! I do admit that we aren't patient for anything any more in society (thanks Amazon) and that's why these lack of updates seem so infuriating to many people. Be patient! I still rather have this phone than any other Android device despite its shortfalls.

You know it is interesting how the Pixel flagship line always has some sort of issue without fail yet the A line seems to succeed with flying colors. I think it is important Google take some time to get these updates right on their first chip. I usually update right away but I think I'll wait a bit this time around. Here's hoping for a fluid update and new features!
