Thoughts on the Note 10 and Note 10+ now that everything has been laid out?

If you mean Note 10 and not the 10+ I agree.
I fixed my previoys post because I realized I wasn't clear about which model was taller and wider than my S10+.

Yep, I was referring to the Note 10.

The S10+ is nearly the same size, has the same cameras, better selfies/battery and expandable storage with a jack. The Note 10 only has the S Pen and a slightly better design (Exynos models also benefit from slightly better speed/efficiency)

One thing I noticed is that the S10+ feels thicker but it could be the way edge tapers because I was under the impression they were all .31 inches

I’m kind of bummed that the rumours of the IR blaster didn’t pan out. I’m still undecided wether to go for the S10 + or the note 10+.

I’m not keen on the colour options here in the UK (aura and black), no gear VR compatibility and no headphone jack.

However at the same time I would appreciate the bigger display and upgraded charging and camera features.

You would still need a dongle if you wanted to use your 3.5mm wired (possibly high end) headphones.

It’s not that I want to use wired headphones. I can accept using Bluetooth ones, I’ve been on the iPhone since the headphone jack went away. The issue I have is when I want to charge my phone and use wired headphones in bed at night.

in the past, no micosd card slot and no headphone port was a deal breaker. Now I am getting senior discounts where ever I go :-( I am more laid back and found they are no longer deal breakers. the phones own internal storage is large enough to hold my library. and I found I like bluetooth headsets since wires in my neighborhood will tend to advertise you have something to steal.

Not sure how much of the new features I will be using but once I get the phone but there will be a lot of experimenting and testing to do :-)

When phones were limited to 16-64GB of storage microsd cards were a ‘must’ for me. But now that even mid-range phones have 128GB of storage at minimal or no extra cost, I can live without microsd. Lack of a headphone jack isn’t a deal breaker, but the phone should come with a dongle if it doesn’t have a jack.

Would you believe as little as 3 years ago there was a big debate in one of the forums about not needing more than 32GB even without external storage? Yeah....maybe if all you have is apps and maybe some photos.

128GB should cover most everyone unless you're storing hi-res video and audio. I have 512 on my S10+ which is overkill. I'm still under 256GB, though I could get there, but I never even put an SD card in it.

With 256 on the Note 10 plus SD I'm covered. I toyed with the idea of the 512GB model but with one color option I didn't bother.

Only 3 years ago? That’s quite surprising...but at the time phones had a default storage of 32GB (16GB for iPhones). If you don’t take many photos or FHD videos maybe it’ll be enough. I take a lot of photos with my S7 Edge (if it had a wide angle or telephoto lens then I would be taking a lot more) and I’ve already used up 50GB of storage out of 64GB. It doesn’t seem like a lot but if I had all the apps I wanted then it would be way more than 64GB.

Is it true that if your phone is near maximum storage by 1-2GB it affects performance? I’ve had an alert saying that before.

I'm not sure about performance but people have also crashed their devices losing all stored data running that close to capacity on some devices.

Oof! That could’ve happened to me and I didn’t even know it!

In theory I should be able to restore my phone (account passwords, apps, photos and settings backed up on Samsung Cloud and all photos/videos kept on micro SD)..but I don’t have great confidence keeping all that data ‘on the cloud’

I didn't think apple supplied a dongle to listen to music and charge at the same time? Only the headphone dongle?

On some thread, this item was suggested

It happened to a couple of people on the Pixel 2. In one case they were in the wild taking pictures and video with no means of connectivity so they lost a lot of memories.

In any event I don't want to detail this thread but it is important and could happen without warning.

You are correct. Dongles with that capability are an accessory.

Will someone tell the folks that are behind the AndroidCentral podcast that removing the SD card slot from the Note 10 is not unprecedented (i.e., Note 5). The more I hear and read from folks who did these first impressions (the web influencers, not us forum jockeys - hahaha) on YouTube and the like, the more I realize that a lot of these folks never really used previous Notes before like we all have and have a lot of their info and impressions off.

I will miss the jack despite me using it only on occasion. Yeah, Samsung made a lot of ads and noise about it, but I think some folks think that because they did - that means they should never ever ever get rid of the jack. I personally feel like they shouldn't have, but they were the last holdout and if it does mean additional features (not sure this really did) then great. If not.. eh - sucks but there is no alternative for any flagship phones.

I like DeX being able to interface with a computer. I thought the point of DeX was to work on things on your phone but with a big screen, and not limited to just "accessing the cloud" and oftentimes you will have access to a laptop or PC and now you don't need a separate keyboard/mouse. You still have the old DeX too.

Once again - most people who have the Note 9 have probably been using 1080p all this time anyway and have NEVER switched it to 1440p. As a matter of fact, I recall many folks here saying that they would rather leave it on 1080p to save on battery. From what I've heard, the Note 10 will also default to 1080p. The resolution is nice and while I do agree that at the $950 price point, the resolution should match the 10+ but I think the bottom line is that it won't be noticeable to most people at all when they've been using 1080p all this time anyway.

I personally have grown to prefer the single camera cutout now in the middle, especially after reading about how what the second front facing camera on the S10+ isn't actually needed since the single camera could do all those things. One day, I think they'll be able to put the camera behind the screen and you'll have a totally unfettered screen.

I hope I will deal without the notification light ok. :)

One thing I see a lot of YouTubers do is compare it so much with the S10+ and how few they think the changes are. I think that is a bit of a mistake and the Note 10 should be compared with the Note 9. The "normal" thought is that folks from the last Note will be the ones more likely to be upgrading and it's the changes from the Note 9 that should be emphasized. Emphasizing changes form the S10+ gives the impression that you would be upgrading from a different phone you just got just a few months ago. Most people will not do that, so you're emphasizing on things that a lot of Note 9 users may not be familiar with.

Lastly, every year I seem to hear them say, well if you don't REALLY need the S Pen, then you should go for the Sxx. Is this line going to be repeated all the time? The Note exists because people want the S Pen. The Note used to be head and shoulders above the S series, but Samsung has done a lot of put them on the same level, so I can get why that statement is made, but it's such a tired line. Yes, no kidding - if you didn't want the S Pen, why are you getting a phone with a S Pen when you can get all your features you want without the pen.

Ok, I wrote so much that I forgot what my point was. :D I think the Note series has a lot of room for criticism but much of the criticism that I've seen from these popular YouTubers seem to be from a standpoint from folks that either don't use the Note very much or don't have any use of the S Pen. I think because of that, there is even greater confusion with the Note series.

Ok. Here’s my two cents on the Galaxy Note 10/10+.First off Samsung gets a D grade for their underwhelming event this year. For this to be the “tenth anniversary” Note and S series, they fell miserably short of our expectations for the phone. This is likely due to the false start of the Galaxy Fold unveiled during the S10 launch event.

By the way anybody seen Justin Denison? I’d be hiding too after that Fold fiasco. Wasn’t he the one that always took a swipe at Apple for not having the headphone jack? Interestingly enough he’s not here for the note event. Somebody send out an APB for his whereabouts? Perhaps he’s in the witness protection program.

What Samsung did wrong:
1. No SD Card on the Note 10. That should have never been the case. I understand that you want to sell two phone sizes but give us the same hardware options. I can see that you only want to do a 256GB option. That’s fair. But no SD card option was wrong. Apparently, they didn’t learn a thing from the Note 5 episode.
2. No USB-C dongle included with the phones. What the hell? Are you Apple in disguise now by conveniently leaving out accessories? Notice how they place the dongle for sale on their web site for $14.99
3. No Quad HD display on the Note 10. Ok, you saw how Apple did this with their 10R, claiming liquid retina LCD screen and you wanted to do the same? Shame on you for trying to pull a fast one. Consumers are smarter than that.
4. Pricing. For $949 give the people more options including color choices. Samsung, you are not listening to the fan base. Apple is. Make up your mind as to who you want to be.
5. In past years the note was the hit out of the park, knock you off your feet standard when it comes to specs. They need to get back to that with some revolutionary specs, not seen by other manufacturers like Huawei. You have let others into the competition and now you are trailing.
What Sammy did right:
1. Offer two different Note size packages. Now that you have a 6.3 and 6.8-inch variants, people can option for the smaller device. Earlier this year my wife opted for the S10 instead of the S-10 plus. Mind the fact that she was upgrading from the S7 edge and she was very happy with that screen size. Some people are still intrigued by the S-pen and its functionality. Now the S-pen only had an incremental upgrade this year compared to previous years but people that I run into still are amazed of the S-pen in terms of what it can do.
2. Internal storage base set at 256GB. This is the sweet spot and should be the standard going forward. Pay a little more for 512 and 1TB if you truly need it.
3. Pre-order options. You get $150 towards the purchase of accessories and package options are available on the Samsung web site. Give the peeps some free stuff while gouging us in the eye with the price points that you know that some will pay. Not all of us.
You can tell that their P/L bottom line is falling. Why else did they not have invited celebrities to the event like they did in past years. Don’t get me wrong. I’m sure that there will be a great marketing campaign coming up for this new device.
For the record, I am getting the Note 10 plus variant with 256GB.

Yeah , that is called a double dungle , damn that sounds explicit 🤣

I'm a Note person. I have a Note 9 and I'm upgrading to a Note 10 Plus. Here's some of the upgrades: 256gb storage, 12gb ram, USF 3.0 storage, ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, 10 hr battery in SPen, 6.8 screen while remaining footprint of Note 9, higher screen resolution. Slimmer build, lighter weight 4 rear cameras including tof, front camera video bocah, new spen features, link to windows, dex connection by usb-c cable and more. That's a major upgrade from Note 9.
samsung blew it big time....$$$$ for a hole in the top of the display, u got to be kidding....maybe a pop up camera..small bezel at top to hide it....and the curved sides, i was never a fan of it..samsung has someone there that goes to sleep, dreaming curved edges....not for me...and no headphone jack...i demand that

No its not. The Note 10 Plus is considered the upgrade from Note 9 version. Read people. Lol
Samsung may not realize it but they have taken the Note series downmarket with these. The Note is now a Galaxy with less features, a bigger and lower res screen, a smaller battery, and (for most people) a useless pen accessory.

Unless I misunderstood, the design of the Note 10 was already finalized before the Fold fiasco so there was no influence from the Fold.
