i really wanted stick it to the man and not get it because of the infamous launch, but i went to verizon and picked it up. i had to have my own. lol

Ok, everyone. I know this phone is "new" and people are going to have issues. It's a well known fact that at launch, phones need to work out their quirks when in the hands of thousands of consumers.

So let's get on to the analogy.

For the slower people, i will reference the thunderbolt as a corvette and phones with 24 hour battery life as a civic hybrid.

You cannot go out an buy a v8 and not expect it to guzzle gas. You hit the gas pedal and it sucks gas like a corner working gal in need of her next fix. The thunderbolt is going to use battery as fast as you use it.

If you want a phone with 24 hour battery life, you're going to get a phone you can't customize as much and doesnt have as much speed. Most people want the cake and eat it too.

Carry a charger with you. You're telling me you cant plug it in for a few minutes when needed. We are in america, not afghanistan. Get a quick external charger, they are the size of a credit card and the one on VZW website says it will charge for up to 5 hours talk time. I understand battery life is an issue to some, but come on. A new thread every second why you hate the TB, why you wont get the TB, how can you improve battery life. oh wait, i just did it. Ha, well i love the phone and it will take a while to work out every issue, have some patience. i mean come on, how long did you wait for the phone to launch ;)
Great analogy!!!

One thing that bothers me with this phone is that when i look at what the battery is being sucked by the dislay is usually 65%-78%. Now idk about you guys but my screen is about not evrn 25% all the time...is there a bug in sense possibly? & yes i have tweaked all other settings so that evrrything that syncs doesnt sync every hour but evrry 4 hours. Idk but i hope htc or google find and fix it fast.

The display will always show around 65%-78%. The display will always be the biggest battery percentage even if you turn it down to 10% brightness. Yes turning down the brightness will save battery life but the breakdown of everything being used will always end up with the display on top.

2750 maH battery results (for me)

I've had the 2750 battery in the TB since receiving it. I've had only one charge on it and the first charge was a double bump charge. The first thing I did was to turn the screen down to about 30 percent, turn on haptic feedback and lower the settings for things like the weather check etc.

I have been using the phone regularly with GPS turned on and with wifi. played about 25 games of solitaire (downloaded from market), done a fair amount of browsing, downloading about 10 apps and setting them up etc.

The uptime is now about 27 hours and the awake time is at about 7 hours. The 2750 maH battery is now at 45 percent. The battery took a large hit last night and seems to be taking big hits while its asleep but not turned off.

I can live with this battery time but I'm having a big problem living with the size of the battery and what it does to the look, feel, and weight of the phone.

I'm going to be putting in the standard battery that came with it tomorrow and see how it fairs with a couple of charges on it.

I'm really liking this phone but I'm not liking it so much if I'm going to have to use the ultra large battery. Yes, I know carry the standard as a spare, buy a portable charger, keep a charger in my car (I already do) etc. But, it seems to be that a lot of these work arounds really starts to defeat the whole purpose of a "portable" device.

For me, the jury is still out. I'm going to keep working with this for the next week and see how things go. I would prefer to keep the TB and that's my aim but I'm not going to start having to carry around a satchel full of batteries, portable chargers etc. just to keep the phone from dying.

I got a droid 2 global a few months ago. Coming from the original droid. The d2g runs at 1.2Ghz, og droid at 600 mhz.

Battery life on d2g was horrible. What saved me was the phone was rooted via a very simple program, z4root.

Then using a program called setcpu, you could make certain profiles.

The biggest thing to do was to turn the clock speed down as low as it goes when the display is off. So instead of the cpu idling at 1.2ghz when its in your pocket (assuming the screen is off is assuming you are not using it, in most cases), I have it set to 300 mhz. This was a huge battery saver! I know this phone isn't rooted yet, I don't have one, but if you can get put in nightime mode or anything, this will be a saver for this phone.

Also, set the display to 25-30%. The lcd is going to draw lots of power, lots of pixels and area to turn on and light up.

Finally, just curious, how is the battery life on the atrix?

Menu->Settings -> Sounds -> scroll down to the bottom and u'll see "Vibrate Feedback" turn that off. I think that's what ur looking for. I twas annoyng that you can just disable everything in one spot. But now its done haha

Thank you, who would have guessed that a vibration is under a sound sub menu? Doesn't make much sense but thanks a lot!

I followed this thread and did a few of the tweaks recommended here. One thing I noticed for me though was when I turned WiFi on I got much better battery life than with WiFi off. I do live in a 4G area. I'm hearing that HTC is working on a firmware update for this battery issue and that they have been aware of it from the start. It was even worse before which caused the delayed release. HTC is not well known for battery life as it is but this is unacceptable. They had that 2750mah ready at time of release because they knew this would be a problem. They were hoping we would accept the extra bulk all the while knowing better. I expect them to try and correct this real soon. While I am tempted to go back to my Droid X (a VERY good phone for battery life), I think I will give HTC a chance and see what if anything they come up with. Shame though, because I can guarantee you that Motorola won't make this mistake with the Bionic.

I know how the Droids work and how it has more horsepower etc. But I know plenty of people with the Droid x that have zero battery issues. I would be fine with even six hours of use from this thing if I was actually doing anything with it. But as of right now all I get is six hours of doing nothing. It's not impressive. Having it lose charge just sittiing in my pocket is pathetic.

The car analogy makes no sense for me cause I'm not pushing the phone hard. I'm not using any web browsing or navigation which typically drain the battery from my experience.

Hey, wait a second, I own a Corvette and I get great gas mileage :) Seriously.:D

I like the OP's reference to and Audi S4 tbh, I love Audis.

And on topic, I CANNOT believe that Verizon installs a useless blockbuster app on your phone, has it automatically wasting battery, AND DOES NOT TELL YOU?!?! What is that crap? Let me uninstall the worthless crapware on my phone VERIZON!

unplugged at 10, and i'm at 6 bars right now, that's with texting, a little words with friends, and about 30% brightness. not too bad. also bump charged last night. i was worried about the battery, but not so much now, i'll be bringing my charger around with me anyway but this is pretty reassuring for me. also in a 4g area

I see alot of folks complaining about how their new Thunderbolt dies after a few hours. I suspect they never bothered to plug them in after purchase. Typically, you should let the battery die a few times, then get a full recharge. You'll get better life.

People, this is not your "run of the mill" phone. It's not Nokia, Samsung, or LG. Heck, it's not even an iPhone. What you hold in your hands, is, in other words, a computer. You may not realize it, but in essence, it is. It has power which you yet don't realize. And with it, comes a price. Battery life.

If you listen to the folks on the forum, you'll learn how to extend the life of the battery. Although I don't own a Thunderbolt (am waiting for Pyramid), I am on my second Android, currently a Desire. I can tell you, that with proper management, you can get at least 31hrs. If you keep WiFI, Gps, and listen to music all day, be prepared to recharge. It's a fact of life.

On a normal day, with "normal" usage, I usually get 19hrs. Not bad for an Android. I keep a USB cable with me when I am on the job. I learn to plug it in at night. As a matter of fact, right now, it's at 49% after 14hrs.

As with USB charging, the computer you plug it into, has a bearing on if it charges or not. My Gateway lapcow at home does just fine. My work computers, well, they keep it at the same level. Their USB just does not have the balls to charge it. This will happen to a lot of people, so don't compare it to "older" phones that you used to charge on older computers.

As with a lot of Andriod "veterans", we know how to deal with this. It's not unusual. Listen to what the "old folks" have to say, and relax. It's all about power management".

Or you could go to the iPhone (which I understand now you can't even change the battery without taking it to a service center)

i really thought you were going to say, "and with great power comes great responsibility"
