Thunderbolt - Best Buy Availability/Pricing/Ordering Discussion

So...what would you do?
Wife and I are eligible for upgrades (Since Feb 4) Bolt comes out in Mid March...contract up June 4. Do we wait? If the phone comes glitch fee do we do the Bolt? what about a 1 year on Verizon? How much more expensive is that? I feel like my timing on this is messed up...I am guessing the timing is NEVER right...

If you and the wife are phone junkies, then go 1 year and go with the Bolt. If you guys aren't really big into rapidly upgrading devices, then 2 years but you'll hate yourself later for doing it.

Thank you...that was what I am afraid of...we are not phone junkies (relative to the gurus on this site)...the two year has killed us on our current phones (envy and Storm 1)...the other thing is I feel like two years ago it was the summer phones that were the real monsters...last summer also..I have some doubts...and so I want the BOLT really badly...but am now thinking why not wait a bit....I want Sense also because it seems to be the friendliest and funnest...but never owned an Android.

The Bolt will be the right choice for you. If you're not a junkie... you don't need Dual Core and 3D and all that other garbage. But still, with the way that mobile technology is advancing, you'll (as you've experienced) get left behind if you lock yourself into a two year contract. Also, in the next two years more carriers will have LTE and other 4G technologies and may present better options than VZW (maybe).

Yesterday My Local Best Buy Said the 28th

Was in Best Buy yesterday and the Verizon Employee told me he was 100 percent sure the phone was coming out on the 28th... I told him that wasnt what i was hearing and he said he was positive.... hmm... annoying if he isnt right.

he's 100% wrong

verizon will definitely make an official launch announcement before the phones are released in stores, and they'll do that a couple of days before the phone is available in stores, so given those conditions, at the earliest, i'd say 3/3... but more likely, 3/10 or later

Why are people assuming an announcement will be made? I thought it was pretty common practice for Verizon NOT to announce phones at all... and just have them show up available online/retail all of the sudden.

as i understand it they do typically make a announcement a week or 2 beforehand but i guess the DROID 2 was only given a official release date a day or 2 before

Wednesday, my local BB told me & two other forum members that they were selling the TB the 24th--and assured us that he would have stock.
i'd be typing this from the TB, but sadly...yeah.

BB Employees are generally clueless.

my thought is, the TB is too high profile to go without an official announcement... Verizon's FIRST LTE capable phone? there's definitely going to be an announcement of some sort

Why do they need an "annoucement". They are showing commercials of the phone pretty frequent, so it's not like the phone will go under the radar.

There certainly won't be a press conference like there was for the iPhone, but there certainly will be something online and most likely on commercials.

No-name BB reps said "for sure" the 14th - turned out to be wrong

No-name BB reps said "for sure" the 28th... you seeing a pattern here?? ;)

It's either March 3 or March 10 at this point. The most credible information we have right now seems to say the 3rd is the date. But we've all gotten pretty good at bracing ourselves for more delays, if it comes to that again

BB will be able to sell the phone the SAME day verizon puts it out. They have the exclusivity agreement. No other store can sell the Tbolt for X amount of weeks, months, years, if ever. Only BB and VZW will be selling the Bolt, and they both will have it on launch day.

TODAY at 10:10 am, my local BB told me the 28th is what they are shooting for as well. I think these people in BB are clueless.

LOL

Wow... you guys really really think that best buy sales people know what is going on? Nope. Best Buy won't launch until the official word from Verizon. As @VerizonWireless has stated... you will know when the launch is and you will hear it from them.

I heard new rumor dates while writing this for launch:

3/1 3/11 3/21 3/31
3/2 3/12 3/22
3/3 3/13 3/23
3/4 3/14 3/24
3/5 3/15 3/25
3/6 3/16 3/26
3/7 3/17 3/27
3/8 3/18 3/28
3/9 3/19 3/29
3/10 3/20 3/30

In light of the fact that we know that the Bolt is featured in this Sunday's Best Buy ad, and also bearing in mind that it was also in last weekend's ad, do we all agree that "the powers that be" would have to be monumentally foolish to fail to deliver the same, highly advertised product for a second week in a row? The recently rumored 10th of March would obviously make that scenario come true.

So are Best Buy really that dense?

Verizon will just keep blaming Best Buy and not releasing the phone.

Best Buy has to be pissed that it's blowing ad space on a device that Verizon can't (or won't) launch.

Maybe they'll sue 'em. :)

The op did say verizon rep and I have a feeling this phone won't be officially announced. With all the problems, if they are true, I think VZW will try to roll it out under the radar to avoid a huge amount of people all getting on the LTE network at once.
