Thunderbolt Consumers want ICS

the biggest think I want out of ICS are ROMs that are based on it. my current ROM (Thundershed 1.6, highly recommend) + ICS features will be great, I imagine.

My tablet came with Honeycomb. It got an upgrade to ICS and hasn't worked right since. They have sent a number of updates to try to make it more stable, but it still has a few glitches.
I won't install ICS rev 1 on myThunderbolt. My Thunderbolt is working fine thank you.

Which tablet do you have?

Glad I rooted. I've tried a few ICS roms for the 'bolt and they run smooth. Just need working radios to go with them.

Hasn't happened yet. But I've already skipped over the thunderbolt to the GNP, and now to an iphone again lol.

I'm sure anyone running the OG Droid want it too...doesn't mean it's gonna happen. If the Thunderbolt does get ICS, it will be almost just in time for me to be upgrade eligible anyway. Don't get me wrong, it would be awesome to have on the Thunderbolt and I know HTC had the Thunderbolt on the "list" of devices there gonna get it, but I'm not holding my breath, nor do I really care.

My device runs great as it is right now. So great, that I haven't even flashed a new ROM since last December. I used to flash a ROM about once a week...but now I don't see the point because EVERYTHING I use regularly works...and it work well.

Why do people keep saying we're not getting ICS? We are, in the next month or two. Chill out, dude.

They're saying it because until it happens, there's no guarantee it's gonna happen. I don't care what HTC said a few months ago, there honestly is a good chance it just never happens.

With every smartphone I owned in the past few years, there have been many well anticipated updates and EVERY ONE of them for EVERY DEVICE I've had the pleasure of owning or supporting has either been significantly delayed or just shelved completely. Nature of the business. Doesn't even matter if HTC has an update ready to go in time they promised, because VZW has to approve it first -- and that is NOT a fast process, nor are they guaranteed to approve an update at all. Often, the resources it takes to dedicate to updating a device that's already over a year old simply don't make sense, and the support ceases.

Unfortunately, that most likely won't happen until an official ICS version for the Thunderbolt gets released and/or leaked.

Trust me, I'll be happy if I'm wrong, but the reality for most of is that we won't see ICS at all until we upgrade our phones...so sit back and do what you can to get most out of Gingerbread (which also took several months longer to release than originally stated).

My phone was running perfectly in tshed 1.4 but i flash other roms anyway. I just like trying new roms as long as they are supposed to be fully functional and there arent too many complaints in user threads.

That's cool... Frankly, part of my problem is lack of time to keep up! Last fall I was laid off for a few months and I had so much free time I started building a few of my own ROMs (or well, at least heavily modding some existing ROMs), but now I barely have time to catch up on the forums, let alone flash ROMs like I used to. I does help that I'm quite happy with my current setup (and happy to be working again!)

I wasn't trying to be downer either, but I do feel that it's a waste of time wishing for ICS on this device. It was one thing to be frustrated at the multiple delays with the Gingerbread update, which was promised at the time of the device's launch...but I'm realistic about the odds of any device getting two major updates in it's lifespan nowadays, given that phones only stay relevant for about 8-10 months. If ICS does drop for the Tbolt, I'll just consider it an extra bonus to what has definitely been the best device I've personally ever owned.

(Although just a leak would do...it's not like I'd be installing anything "official" on my Thunderbolt anyway!)

Pete! Glad to hear you're too busy to fixate on modding your toys. I'm addicted to wrangling more power out of my car much to the dismay of my better half. The old adage "idle hands are the Devil's workshop" applies here for sure.

Supposedly the announcement of ICS to the Thunderbolt is "official". I, like you, have some doubts about Big Red breathing new life into an old device and thereby preserving grandfathered unlimited data to owners of this device. By making it hard to give it up for a new model just for some modest performance gains over a now proven LTE capable hardware platform flies directly in the face of the normal path of corporate greed that strives to make any device obsolete in the eyes of the consumer within 6 months at best.

Granted we have been somewhat cautioned by the caveat that this isn't "real ICS" because it will have a different version of Sense as compared to the newer devices. But then again. Verizon has no version of the HTC One X to offer. And then again, again, the One X series seems to have some WiFi hardware issues so maybe it's a good thing.

What a nuisance it is to shop for any new technology these days when nothing does everything and everything does something. By design? Or by plan? Or is every manufacturer and provider as stupid as a post?

I hope Verizon does eventually push ICS to my TBolt. I hope the version of Sense that comes along with it is as useful and trouble-free as the one I have now.

I hope all the Apps I know, like or rely on are ICS-friendly by them (some are not right now).

And most of all I hope my TBolt keeps running flawlessly like it does now because I'm definitely going to have to pay about $500 or more retail for my next phone to be able to keep my unlimited data that I use about 15GB a month of right now via LTE and another 5GB WiFi.

They don't even have a plan for that. $100 a month to share 10GB and then pay overcharges. Kiss my Big Red Ass!

I do not want anymore updates, my Tbolt is %100 solid. The last update doubled my batter lige, I am completely happy just the way it is!!!!

Believe those issues have been isolated to the Tegra 3 version. The US variants have the Qualcomm S4

My only other hobby is flashlights. Nothing new and exciting in the world of LED either (since xml) so my phone is my hobby. I was spoiled back in the early days when new roms came out virtually every day. I am anticipating a flood of new stuff to play with once the ics ril gets out. IMO HTC would be smart to release the ril accedentally. Think of all the free testing they would get without any responsibility to fix problems.

Do you guys think that Rezound (very soon) and Razor getting ICS as expected means that the Thunderbolt will get ICS?

Absolutely. I'm still not sure why people are doubting it other than the fact that it's not out right now.

Sure it would be nice to have something new I guess, but what's so wrong with current builds of GB? I am seeing little to no bugs in most all roms... When I run stock it runs almost perfect. If you are unhappy with how its performing, try a factory reset or a new Rom.
