I'm sure anyone running the OG Droid want it too...doesn't mean it's gonna happen. If the Thunderbolt does get ICS, it will be almost just in time for me to be upgrade eligible anyway. Don't get me wrong, it would be awesome to have on the Thunderbolt and I know HTC had the Thunderbolt on the "list" of devices there gonna get it, but I'm not holding my breath, nor do I really care.
My device runs great as it is right now. So great, that I haven't even flashed a new ROM since last December. I used to flash a ROM about once a week...but now I don't see the point because EVERYTHING I use regularly works...and it work well.
They're saying it because until it happens, there's no guarantee it's gonna happen. I don't care what HTC said a few months ago, there honestly is a good chance it just never happens.
With every smartphone I owned in the past few years, there have been many well anticipated updates and EVERY ONE of them for EVERY DEVICE I've had the pleasure of owning or supporting has either been significantly delayed or just shelved completely. Nature of the business. Doesn't even matter if HTC has an update ready to go in time they promised, because VZW has to approve it first -- and that is NOT a fast process, nor are they guaranteed to approve an update at all. Often, the resources it takes to dedicate to updating a device that's already over a year old simply don't make sense, and the support ceases.
Unfortunately, that most likely won't happen until an official ICS version for the Thunderbolt gets released and/or leaked.
Trust me, I'll be happy if I'm wrong, but the reality for most of is that we won't see ICS at all until we upgrade our phones...so sit back and do what you can to get most out of Gingerbread (which also took several months longer to release than originally stated).
