Thunderbolt or Iphone

Is the reception better on iphones than it used to be? I remember they used to drop calls all the time due to poor phone signal

Most of my co-workers selected iPhones, some from Verizon and some from AT&T. The Verizon iPhone carriers seem as happy with their signal as I am with the Thunderbolt. These are all iPhone 4, not 4S.

In my case, I take this as a POSITIVE. I can certainly see were someone would want a small and lighter device. But not here. I'm actually think that just a touch larger would be just right for me.

Oh, same here, believe me. I've got big hands and a larger phone just "fits" better.

Having said that, I cannot for the life of me find a car dock that can accommodate my Thunderbolt with the extended battery and my Seidio Active case. It's too heavy. I spent the day in my woodworking shop today prototyping out some possible car dock designs, because I think I'm going to have to build my own...

Dude, I have that exact same setup. Look up Arkon car mount on amazon. There are two and I believe one is larger. It holds my phone like a pro and has a windshield mount and a dash mount. It's the best $11 I ever spent.

Haha wow Tapatalk is really acting up. If you can decode the previous two messages, you'll have yourself a very nice car dock.:p

RE: Arkon car mount.

I got one. Arkon even sent me the longer legs for it. The 3M pad never stuck to my dash properly, and when I got the "Active" case the legs were not deep enough to hold the phone in place, so it would pop out. So I wired a couple of paper clips to it to form a "basket" top and bottom, and that worked for a while, then the suction cup started failing.

The whole thing worked quite well for about a month, then started failing even before I got the Active case. Now with the weight of the Active case and the extended battery, the 3M pad fails, the suction cup fails, the tightener on the ball socket loosens up sometimes, and the whole thing is a nightmare. With a lighter phone, it would probably work fine, but it was a waste of $12 for me.

My phone fell to the floor of my car. A LOT.

For the moment, I've carved a bit of cedar into a little "cup" that holds the base of my phone in place and fits into my cupholder which is up on the dash. It works OK, but I've made some "holding teeth" out of moosewood and a backer out of plywood, and I'll see about some toggle-bolt vent holders for it.

It'll be... "unique".

Maybe I'll see if I can put on some brass fittings somewhere and give it a steampunk look. :D

I have a vent mounted phone holder I purchased at Target. It opens and closes so it squeezes tightly enough to hold my tbolt very securely. It has 2 little legs that stick out to hold the tbolt from the bottom too but I find them unnecessary. The things on the side that squeeze in can move up or down so I have a car charger cord inserter through one of the openings making it even more secure. There is a button that releases the sides to remove the phone. It was cheap too. I'll try to remember to check the brand when I go out to the car.

Keep in mind that the the iPhone is limited.

1. Can't add more memmory
2. Can't change out batteries

The Tbolt is the only phone I am planning on keeping for my full contract (December). Yes, I would like to have the duel core processor and ICS...but, right now, my TBolt is perfect.

Now, with that said, I wouldn't pay over $100 for the TBolt since it is coming up to a year old already. But, I have no problem reccommending it to someone.

I have iPhones for my parents and in laws and there is nothing wrong with them. It definitely suites their needs.

I don't know how a stock thunderbolt runs but rooted with the right rom it is amazing for the price.

I feel like the tbolt has a much more responsive screen than the iPhone. /shrug

I just find myself hitting buttons.on.the iPhone over and over again to get them to register.

Gee in a Thunderbolt forum? Did you put this question up in the iphone forum too? Save up your bucks and wait it out for a quad core. The Droid ten should get you through till then.

Here's my take on it. If you have an X right now, the only reason I would say to upgrade is to get 4G. Other than that, you will find that each phone is pretty similar as far as performance goes. My vote is to save your upgrade for a little while and see what comes out later this year. Then again, if you're dying to get 4G speeds, and you want to do it at a low cost, absolutely grab the Thunderbolt. I don't have mine anymore, but if I didn't find a way to get a Nexus without paying money (sold my tbolt, got the nexus on an early upgrade) I would have held on to it right up until my upgrade date, and probably beyond that. It's a wonderful phone, but next to the X you won't notice much of a difference.

Also, don't buy an iPhone :p

There is a HUGE difference between the Droid X and the Thunderbolt.
Enough said!

I bought this for the extended battery. works great. no case but again i do not have it extended all the way out ( the car dock) but for a couple bucks and free shipping (for me) it was totally worth it.

I would consider a 4G Iphone IF it had a bigger screen AND I could afford an apple laptop. I like how easily they communicate. I would certainly miss having some control over my phone though.

Do you mean "4S" and not 4G?. As you know, the iPhone isn't 4G yet. I was considering getting an iPhone with my next upgrade because by then it will be probably the iPhone 5 that is 4G....but I really am use to the Android OS and I like the openness of the environment.

No, I mean waiting for 4G. 4S is a gimmick. The Iphone I want will never be built. I want a screen the size of a nexus with 4G, quad core etc. You get the idea. Cutting edge everything that WORKS out ofbrhe box.

this.... the only reason I upgraded from my fascinate to the tbolt was because of the 4G. the specs otherwise are pretty much identical, same thing with the droidx.

fine, the tbolt may be better in some ways, but not enough to warrant a new 2 year contract at this point. I upgraded at the time because vzw sent me a flier to upgrade to the tbolt for $150 after having my fascinate for 6 months (sold my fascinate to pay for it). 4G has definitely been worth it, but I have a hard time recommending a phone that has been out for almost a year. I'd say look at a bionic and see if you can get it for less than $150.
