Thunderbolt sucks

I just want to say that I have had the thunderbolt for over a month now and it sucks. I mean it looks good and it is fast, but it cannot connect to the internet.

The data connection just craps out constantly. I used to have the g1 and the orignal droid; both phones were slower, but better than the thunderbolt. I used all three of these phones in the exact same locations. btw, the location is the middle of manhattan, so i can't imagine how crappy this phone is in other locations.

I called verizon and they said it is a known issue and that is was scheduled to be fixed May 3rd, but that the release was delayed. Anyway, bottom line is that thunderbolt was rushed to market with crap software.

It may be a great phone in a year or so, but right now the thunderbolt sucks. It is also HILARIOUS that all the gadget sites gave this phone good reviews. Just goes to show what a load of **** they are.

i have the same issue, but when it works, damn it works awesome.

just wait until the update eventualy comes out, then if it doesnt work we can raise hell.

Works great as a phone! (telephone: electronic equipment that converts sound into electrical signals that can be transmitted over distances and then converts received signals back into sounds) I never once had a problem making a phone call with the ThunderBolt.

However the data connection is a problem from time to time for me. One Verizon tech suggested I turn on Data Roaming. He explained that I would only get charged for data if I was outside the country, not sure if I believe that, but I am rarely in an area where I do not get full bars. Waiting for the OTA to take care of the current bugs.

I still enjoy the phone and 4G speed is amazing. I had the option to go back to a BlackBerry etc and I cannot get my self to go back to the slow data speeds.

i admit, it is frustrating at times.

but YOUR thunderbolt sucking doesn't mean every Thunderbolt sucks or experiences your data connectivity issues.
yes, a group of users are experiencing that problem--but it's a 1st generation LTE phone. we all knew what we were getting into when we bought the phone. we're labrats for this--but we're compensated by being grandfathered into unlimited LTE data (supposedly).
sorry you're having trouble-- but,
i love mine.
i get constant 4g, constant signal, good battery life (tweaks, tweaks!), and the screen is awesome.

and the 32GB card? yowza. originally i thought it was just something to draw you in to overlook certain shortcomings on the phone (battery, initially--or the 1.2 processor), but once you know how to work the phone it really comes alive and is fully beneficial. i've got so many shows & movies--and songs on this thing it's insane. i'm never bored b/c i have this media powerhouse in my pocket.

and yes, the update was delayed. but the RUU was leaked--and you can flash it to fix your connectivity issues. tons of people have, and pretty much anyone who has reports that it fixed any problem (GPS, Camera, data, 4g-3g handoff). it's a simple flash, you can find instructions in this forum pretty easily.

sorry you're having trouble. did you create a user account JUST to post this? (referencing your 1 post count quantity) just curious :)

hope you enjoy---whatever you move on to. as for the rest of us in this forum--we'll find ways to make it work and reap the benefits!

Hey, what a great first post!

I find it HILARIOUS that you have issues and I've had an absolutely perfect experience with my Thunderbolt ... no connection issues, super fast LTE, great battery life. I had a OG as well and that phone was fantastic till it was nearing EOL and started to become unusable in terms of touch input.

The thing is, you're dealing with two factors: Hardware and Service. If the LTE service in your area is going through growing pains, that has nothing to do with your phone. If other people are able to pick up LTE fine on their Tbolts, then you could have a faulty unit. Believe it or not, sometime products are faulty ;)

Just because you're having a bad experience, it's ridiculous to assume or even think that everyone else experiences the same issues and therefore must be lying if they say they're not.

There was also a post here somewhere that there is an outage in the NYC area....so im guessing youre affected by it as well... hence the network problems / hiccups.

Troll. Just an infantile response to a bad user experience: If my phone is bad, I'm going to rant and pout and try to make the rest of you feel bad for having the same phone!!!
I love my TBolt! :p

I'm often stuck behind that 500 Horse power Cadillac driving 55 in the middle lane and I think "man if that was mine I'd be flying". I guess some people know how to make things fly and others just get in the way.

I am not calling this phone crap, but I will tell u this I am on my third new TB and with jcase last RUU with the updated radios. Flashed about 3-4 days after receiving the phone so I would not experience the 3G-4G hand off issues, well after a few days use of the the new radios the problem is back of the mobile internet connection drop. Yes like many I have to put a widget on my home screen to toggle the data mode back on, maybe was good thing HTC did decide the idea to scrap this orginal OTA and go back to the drawing board and hope this time they get it right.

I agree with both sides of people who post here, if your phone works great and you have no issues, even better. But for the people like me and others that are having ongoing and constant issues, it can be a freaking pain the butt!!! I for one know that no phone is perfect and the TB is considered the 4G Beta phone for Verizon, but after 3 new phones with all the same problems is out of mind. Mine drops the mobile hotspot on certain devices and constantly started dropping the data connnection in the last 2 days is ridiciulous.

HTC and Verizon need to pull there fingers out of their rear and get this update right and see there are problems/issues and put a proper fix out to resolve these matters.

I guess I just find it odd that people base their opinion on a certain item on their short experience with the item. I've had the phone since launch day and as I've said in another thread, I haven't had any major issues and it certainly doesn't suck.

I by no means consider myself an Android power user as I haven't even rooted my phone. However, I'm not exactly a lightweight either as I put my phone on WiFi for probably at least 50% of my data usage, but I still use around 5GB of LTE data.

Have you tried in an area where they have proper coverage.. I dont have any issues besides battery but it has been great recently. I did get some force stops on my apps but again every time i m on safari on my ipad it crashes all the time.. Its hard to find a perfect device but hope your next device is perfect for you.

I have to agree with the OP.
Verizon told us they wouldn't release the phone untill they could provide an excellent user experience.
FAIL.
I work in a solid 4g area and live in a 3g area and have data connection problems in both.
I started a trouble ticket with Verizon. That went nowhere. They repaced the sim card with no result, and now I'm waiting for a replacement device.
Replacing these devices makes no sense to me when they have stated the problem will be fixed with a future update/patch. I guess that's just their way of shutting us up.

I would like verizon to provide the device and service I pay for and I'm not willing to do thier jobs for them. i.e. Rooting and flashing, just so the device will perform as promised.

My thunderbolt wasnt anygood i have a laundry list of complaints.
Everyone can say how great the phone is and that this guy is harping on just one aspect but remember in the end its about each users experience. mine was filled with all types of bugs.

Im not saying that all phones don't have bugs but i was expecting much more from all the rants of how great the phone was. I'm not a developer but im not an average user either. I have spent endless hours on these forums and working with different phones in different ways so i know my way around android pretty well and i just could not get myself to love the phone. I mean its a good phone and i like it but it didnt live up to the hype FOR ME.

i have 0 problems. actually, i think im gonna buy one for my wife. battery is great now that I turned off lte. i have an extended battery but don't use it. i have no trouble connecting to the Internet. sorry to hear of your troubles. you got a lemon. do you have insurance on it??...... hmmmmm.... follow me???...??

I agree, the thunderbolt isn't that great of a device....but when the update rolls out it should fix a TON of problems.
I have it, and experience alot of problems myself. Not only myself but everyone that calls in.

So your saying that people don't randomly call and say "hey I just wanted to call and say my phone is great..ok bye"...Why else would someone call in unless they had a problem? I think with the number of these phones that have been sold that the large majority of folks love it!
