maybe you have a bad one, I actually find the volume on the headphone very loud, {I never have it turned all the way up} and clear

I'm talking about the video recording sound, not music play back or phone conversations. It has been well documented and HTC has admitted the problem and promised a fix.

As seen in this story:
HTC confirms ThunderBolt camcorder audio problem, says fix is coming

I came from storm 2 to TB... What a leap... I was so mesmerized with the UI and the whole OS... It made me feel old (32 y/o). The battery life has improved with my TB. I learned to manage my settings better and I am not touching the phone every 3 minutes. Also, I rigged my Storm 2 desktop charger to fit the TB. Well, I shouldn't say I rigged it, I broke it apart. I rest my phone on my desktop charger for about half an hour twice or three times a day. It's 1:20 am (unplugged since 7am) and I had about 10% left in it... I would say it is head to head with my Storm 2.... I have the extended batt but not loving the extra weight and the hump... So switched back to the stock battery... Speaking of which; how (and why) in the world can this phone get out of the spec board at HTC HQs with a 1400 mAh battery???!!! What is the cost difference? 2 bucks at bulk? 10 bucks? Really HTC?! Anyhow; I am keeping my TB.

Definitely Keeping

OK in my opinion this phone is better than the evo. Better kickstand, LOUD AS HELL, best camera on a phone so far, 4g in way more areas than SPrint or Atnt, great display, Sense 2.0, 3 mica, dual flash, (Explodes) . Of course there is gonna be issues because it just came out, the evolution old now and the future is faster, I will order an extended battery or get another battery and by the charger that can charge the phone and battery simultaneously :D

I bought my TBolt Thursday 2 weeks ago.

I will be keeping it. In two years things will be very different and I will get that latest greatest "phone".
Ha! its not just a phone of course, but an internet radio, a PDA, remember them? And other stuff.
Since I bought it I have purchased a large battery (for which I desire a case); another AC charger and the Motorola 12V auto charger off ebay so I can keep it charged where and whenever.
I live where 3G signal is itinerant, but there is 4G on this island in Lahaina. It was plenty fast when I did a road trip to check it out it, the speed convinced me to keep it. I have also used the mobile hotspot for sending a signal to my iPod Touch4G. I would have bought an iphone and was going to until I studied up and found out that 4G was almost here.
I use it mostly for the audio streaming apps. (Progressive talk radio if you are interested.) To keep informed and entertained. But it does cut out as I drive across Maui. In town the 3G is very fast but it cuts off in the building. It is still worth having. No other carrier or phone would be better for my location.
I am a happy young old man!

Better than the DInc got lol

Once bitten ...

Over here in the U.K. we had a very sub-standard roll out of the DesireHD last year .. oh my, was that the worst built phone I have ever set eyes on!!

HTC: Priced like Bentley, built like Lada!

Well this poll speaks volumes ... about what? I have no idea. But I'm keeping mine.

Are the majority voters just sheep willing to buy the latest and greatest? I don't think so, I'd tend to believe the Not Keeping or Already Returned types fall into that category.

iPhoney's who thought they were getting the same thing but different with LTE speed and no learning curve ... bye bye ...
For BB users who thought they were going to get the same thing but at LTE speed, don't let the door hit ya ...
For previous Android users in any flavor who are unwilling to give HTC and Sense a chance ... ditto.

I'm a technogeek from way back, and I do mean WAY back ... I'm also surrounded by Linux experts at work, it's part of my job, I'm just scratching the surface of what this device is capable of and I'm loving every minute of it. This coming from a die-hard Crackberry addict.

A couple of hot-fixes and OS patches along with a little root modding and this sucker is gonna do me just right for a long time to come.

Good luck to the rest waiting for God to hand you something that satisfies youe every desire out of the box. For the rest of us, I'm sick of reading about how this is "old" tech and obsolete already. <sigh> I hear it every day at work from people that refuse to take the time to learn how to squeeze the hidden performance out of devices rather than live with the conservative stock settings delivered to them by retailers who always take the conservative "please the masses" stance when rolling out ANY new product.

Time will tell. I think the TB is going to be a winner ... at least in some circles.

Not to mention, locking in the $30/month unlimited data for 2 years knowing Big Red is just dying to change the rate plan. Japan is in big trouble and they are responsible for a large volume of chip supplies (ummm ipad2 is sold out and no parts in the pipeline means a 4 month waiting list already "info courtesy of Molly Wood at CNET" ... I see this as a great buy for my needs right now. Plus it's fun as hell to mod these suckers!

I'm quite disappointed in the Phone. I had no idea it was locked out to the hilt, and I had to deal with icons and apps I want nothing to do with.

Thousands and thousands of apps? Thousands of the same app over and over again.

Yes, it's fast, big nice screen, powerful processor, and needs a diesel generator to run the thing.

The phone is obviously a nice piece of equipment, but I cannot accept the functionality, locked out to the hilt with apps I want nothing to do with and cannot delete. I didn't have to hack, root, or rom my Blackberry to get it to do what I wanted it to. I got rid of the apps I didn't want with Desktop Manager, put the apps on it I wanted with BB App World, and they all worked. I didn't download a single app that said it wouldn't work with my device. I downloaded a handful of apps to my Bolt that don't work.

VZW advertising folks must make a lot of money, because in my opinion, this phone is all hype, loaded with useless widgets and apps I'm forced to swallow.

Nice phone, but not the control I want over it.

I'm keeping my Tbolt for sure. I came from a Blackberry, this was my first Android phone, and yes there was quite a learning curve. The phone is so fast, does just about everything very well (except for the sound on the camcorder), and is just a hoot to fool with and discover new stuff in it.
And as far as the battery life issues.... mine gets me through about 16 hours a day, with 5 - 6 hours of moderate-to-heavy awake time and battery to spare. And I don't care what the detractors say, occasional bump charging gets you great battery life.
Thunderbolt is a great phone, and will be TONS better with the first OTA update.

Still on the fence...have until tomorrow. The build quality of this thing(large panel gap at the bottom, 1/2 lit buttons, light leaks) and recent buggyness has me worried. 24 more hours to figure it out....

I LOVE this phone...

My roommate has the Fascinate Galaxy and I really liked it... but I'm really glad I chose the Thunderbolt. My battery usage is approximately the same as his, I love the bigger/crisper screen - haven't really had any issues with it to date...

As for Cons: the only thing I wanted was swipe, but I have a feeling if I dig through the forums I might find a ROM that has it or a way to get it :)

Sorry to break the news, but every phone has bloatware. Even Blackberry. You didn't get rid of them on your Blackberry. You just hid them. If you delete them, they are pushed back

Blackberry are the most locked down phones besides Apple.

You obviously just like Blackberry. Go back to it! But you can't get rid of bloatware unless you install a custom OS on Blackberry.

Wrong wrong wrong. First don't take it personal that I like a Blackberry and tell me to go back. Second, yes I did delete the bloatware on my Blackberries. There is a difference in hiding it, and deleting it, and I deleted it. I also installed leaked OS's on different BB's, and that is still different. VZW pushes web channels, but not the apps. All the other unused junk, apps and languages get physically deleted when you know what your doing like I do.

Yes I like Blackberry, but I bought a Thunderbolt, and this thread asks if you're keeping it. I answered the thread, don't get insulted when I say I don't like the functionality of the OS

Sorry you don't like this phone. It has been great for me. It is a totally different experience from the Blackberry OS for sure.

I know you said you don't like to have widgets that you don't use, etc. Android is fully customizable. You can remove all the widgets on the home screen if that is what you want and just set the ones that you want to use. If the widgets on the phone don't look the way you want, the Market may have something more to your liking. You can even just create a home screen full of icons of the apps that you do want to use so you don't have to see the apps you don't want to use.

So, you may want to see if doing this kind of customization makes the phone more appealing to you. It still may not but that's a matter of your own taste and choice. The good thing is that there is choice to find what fits better for your needs.

I know how to change/move/remove widgets I don't like. My beef is with all the apps I will never use, don't want to use, and clog up the device and cannot delete from it. I shouldn't be forced to have them, especially when they're always running, and I don't use them while the suck up memory space.

I'm not saying it's a bad phone, but yes, there are features my Blackberries had/have that this TB does not, but I'm not trashing the Bolt.

However, they let anybody write apps for it, apps that don't even work on this device, but I can't remove the preloaded ones I don't want? Where's the logic in all this?

That's the nature of open source. It's the same when you buy a new Windows computer that comes loaded with bloatware. Of course, there you can remove the programs. With Android, the phone carriers choose to add bloatware that we cannot remove unless we root the phones. I don't like the bloatware either but I don't let that detract from my experience with the OS. I blame the carriers for doing that to us.

Like I said before, the good thing is that there is choice available. Oh, and I know you are not saying the phone is bad. I can understand your frustration with the bloatware.
