This is for those times when you want to change your recovery but don't have access to a desktop. You need to already have a custom recovery installed otherwise you can't flash the zip (duh!).

Here are some common recoveries in flashable form:
Stock_Optimus_V_Recovery.zip
aospCWMod-VM670-20110531_Recovery.zip
CWM_3.0.2.4_Recovery.zip
Thunderc-v-1.2.0-GNM_Recovery.zip
Xionia_CWMA_12518.4_VM_Recovery.zip
Xionia_CWMA_12518.4_Recovery.zip (Optimus S)
Xionia_CWMA_12518.6_Recovery.zip (Optimus S)

You don't need to do anything special for these. Flash them and your recovery will be changed.

If you want to flash a recovery not listed above using your current recovery, use the following directions:
Make sure your recovery image is not corrupt before using this.
  1. Rename your recovery of choice to vrecovery.img
  2. Place vrecovery.img in the root of your micro SD card
  3. Place Flash_vrecovery.zip anywhere on the micro SD card
  4. Reboot into your custom recovery and flash the zip

Enjoy!

Not to hate on this method, but why the hate towards terminal? It's the fastest and easiest method around. Download directly to your phone, then open terminal and type two lines, and you're in your custom recovery.

Dang! Do you have any idea what went wrong? There isn't much to this zip. Here is all the code:
Code:
ui_print("*-* Flashing vrecovery.img *-*");
set_progress(1.000000);
write_raw_image("/sdcard/vrecovery.img", "recovery");
ui_print("-------------------");
ui_print("Done!");

I'm not sure what went wrong actually. Maybe it's because we're flashing a recovery inside the recovery? I fixed it and tried it again, and it worked the second time. Maybe it's a hit and miss type of thing. The code looks fine though.

I tried it flashing stock recovery xionia clockwork and ra2.2.1 (sprints version ov isn't fixed yet) worked flawlessly for me.

Tested a bit ago and works like a treat for me.

Know what else is a treat? You, mmarz.

You.

Hold me.

-K

Also: This is so convenient. Thank you.

Haha, sounds like you need some sunshine and fresh air. If you still need me to hold you, I'll be right here. ;)

Worked perfectly to completely send my phone back to stock.
I restored the nandroid of the stock system and then, with this, flashed the stock recovery.

Thanks! :D

Mmarz this just an idea.... is it possible to make a flash zip with the recovery inside the zip? Or is it possible with our phones?

Yes, easily. Give me links to the recoveries you want and I'll post them in flashable form.
