Total Equipment Coverage (TEC)

I called Verizon and they were able to set up the TEC without an issue as promised. :)

Has anyone had any issues adding this to their line that has a Thunderbolt? At the moment I have the WPP insurance but I've been trying to get Verizon to add TEC and I've had no luck. .

I have my phone for two weeks. I originally tried to place the order online but there was no option for TEC (either none, extended warranty or insurance could be picked). I had a smartphone and wanted everything the same including the TEC except the hardware upgrade)

I called CS and initially was told the insurance was the same as TEC. I said I didn't think
so and said if it was they owed me a refund. I explained what I had been told the difference was between TEC and insurance and she agreed and placed the order and said everthing would be the same except the new phone.

The new bill just came and it has a line item "TEC Insurance - Asurion $5.99"

As a Noob, I have to ask. What's the difference between Extended Warranty, Insurance, and TEC, and how much do they cost? When we picked up my TB and my wife's iPhone, they asked if we wanted insurance, which we took, but they didn't really explain what we got for it.

All devices have a manufacturers warranty. In the Thunderbolts case it would be with HTC, probably for 1 year. This would cover any defects, like a faulty screen, bad speaker, etc. that you might have within the 1st year. You would have to send it to HTC to get repaired or a trade-in. The Extended Warranty ($1.99) is the same but it covers you for as long as you pay it, not just the 1st year. The Insurance, which they call Wireless Protection Plan ($5.18), or WPP, covers you if your phone is lost, stolen, or damaged. This would cover you if you drop the phone or break the screen. The TEC ($6.99), or Total Equipment Coverage, is basically the extended warranty and wireless protection combined together.

I bought my TB from Best Buy and didn't get any type of insurance. A couple days later I called VZW to add the TEC but they said the Thunderbolt could only get the WPP. The customer service rep was dumbfounded to why this was but said the system wouldn't let them add it to my account. So I got the WPP so I would have some coverage. A few days later I went to VZW to try again but the manager said that since I bought the phone at Best Buy I couldn't get the TEC from VZW :(. Last week I called VZW to add the Extended Warranty but the rep said it wouldn't let them do it until April 17th and I could call back and add it then. Yesterday (April 17th) I called back and the customer service dude added the extended warranty in about 5 seconds LOL. I check my account today and I don't have the WPP+Extended Warranty, I have the Total Equipment Protection instead :D. This is great since WPP+Extended Warranty is the same as TEC but about $.20 more. I would advise everyone with a smartphone with no insurance on Verizon to check this out since I was told that they're having an open enrollment period.

Verizon has open enrollment for insurance till the end of the month. There are 2 options Tec for 6.99 or entended warranty for 1.99. Wpp is only for grandfathered customers and is no longer offered. Oh and tec for iphone is 10.99 instead of 6.99 thats what the customer service rep told me when i asked about warranty coverage on replacement batteries.

Incorrect.

These are the options:

$1.99 Extended 1 yr manufacturing warranty.
$5.18 WPP for all phones, mifi, usb modems, Home Phone Connect (HPC), except iPhone 4. Covers lost, stolen, damages.
$9.18 WPP for iPhone 4.
$6.99 TEC for all phones, mifi, usb modems , Home Phone Connect (HPC), except iPhone 4. Covers lost, stolen, damages, and extended 1yr manufacturing warranty.
$10.99 TEC for iPhone 4.
$10.99 WPP for tablet & netbook. ( i think that's the right pricing )
$14.99 TEC for tablet & netbook. ( i think that's the right pricing )

$9.18/10.99 WPP + $70 Apple care = lost, stolen, damages, extended warranty, and free tech calls to apple care for up to 2 years
for iphone/ipad

Deductibles (processing fees):
$45 deductible for featured phones, Home Phone Connect (HPC), mifi, & USB modem
$99 for smart phones
$145 for netbook & tablet
$169 for iPhone 4 16GB
$199 for iPhone 4 32GB

Finally!

I called VZW on Sunday 4/17 and was finally able to get TEC added to my TB and can actually see it on my account online! It only took a month! LOL! The customer svc rep was able to do it in just a few seconds. So it looks like they finally got the kinks worked out of the system. Thank goodness nothing happened to my phone that the WPP didn't cover.
