Touchscreen responsiveness wacky

Having the issue as I type this. This is the 3rd time happening. I think it happened around the same time yesterday too. I been on it at least once a hour today since 8am and just started the issue now.

In my case it was 1 of the keyboards I was trying out. Once I tried a different keyboard my problems seemed to go away.

I haven't seen this problem at all (thank goodness). My N7 is in the case from the play store. I also wipe the screen with lens cleaning wipes every so often. No screen protector on it. Not rooted or unlocked. Everything except for the video contrast issue (where the screen washes out really bright white after watching videos in landscape) is fine.

Hey guys... I started having this issue yesterday as well. I have a 16GB version that I picked up from Staples. It's frustrating to say the least.

Has anyone determined root cause yet... and/or a solution? I would hate to return this if it's software related and all Nexus 7 tablets will eventually get this issue.

Having this problem on the first day I received the Nexus 7, I'm hoping it's just a software issue because other than the currently problem of touch not responding, I do enjoy this tablet.

Sometimes when I wake up the Nexus 7 from sleep it appears as if though someone else is touching it sporadically.

I have been having this issue from day one without a case. I still have it now even after the Nexus 7 has been rooted, and I have flashed a custom ROM and kernel. Turning the display off and back on almost always fixes it.

I have noticed, however, that "snap back" issue Topolsky at the Verge pointed out. When I try to swipe among home screens, it sometimes snaps back to the screen I'm on initially, like the gesture I made isn't exaggerated enough for it to understand that I want to go to the next home screen. I chalk it up to the CPU being scaled up to speed up touch response.

You can actually see the CPU doing this if you have an app like System Panel, which shows the usage for different CPU cores. As you scroll in the screen in the app that shows the pie charts of CPU usage, one core will scale to over 70% or so each time you touch the screen.

I thought it was a hardware defect?

So, resurrecting this thread because I came across a thread on lag on XDA where the root issue was slow write speeds to storage. I've been seeing lag in my touchscreen response almost since I got my N7, and I'd figured it was tied to storage speed and also push notifications: it got noticeably worse when there was a push service running. Sometimes killing the service fixed the issue, sometimes not. Anyway, saw the thread on XDA with someone trying Androbench to see the read/write speeds. Normal N7 write speed is about 10MB/s, he was seeing 0.39MB/s. I was getting ~2MB/s. I figured hardware defect, but also that I should factory reset to check before calling Google.
Did the factory reset. My read speeds are normal now - between 10MB/s and 11MB/s. And the responsiveness is vastly improved. So if you're seeing lag, you might want to check your write speeds and if they're low, reset. Which sucks - it's a huge hassle to reset. But it's better than your tablet being periodically unusable.
Hopefully whatever causes this can be fixed in an update, or at the very least it recurs rarely.

Sluggish response when plugging onto charge on official charger. Turn screen off and on. Works again.

Look at the right side.

I had a similar problem playing Angry Birds for too long one night but it seemed OK in the morning. Maybe I was tapping to hard?

I have been having this issue also. I have found it seems to occurs the most when I have been playing a game and do not close it. Since I have been exiting games then swiping them off of the recent apps list, I do not have the problem as frequently but it still happens occasionally. When I do get it, I use the trick to shut the screen off and on. It usually resolves the problem.

I did a google search for this problem and came across this thread. I'm having the exact same problem with my tablet but I actually have the Asus 300 transformer pad with jelly bean update. Hopefully this is a jellybean software issue and not a hardware issue. I know nexus 7 and Transformer 300 have almost identical internals, same manufacturers. I get this problem after playing dead trigger usually and i turn the display on and off and then all touch inputs are perfect for awhile and then it eventually happens again. Please if anyone gets word on the cause update this thread. Definitely subscribing to this thread.

This was also linked on the google code page I posted. This gives me hope.
xda-developers - View Single Post - Nexus 7 Screen not responding to touch sometimes?

I have reset and encrypted my device a week ago. And although not very scientific test, I just "feel" less annoyed with it if you know what I mean. Im just not counting the times. I think just one time my responsiveness was low because of plugging into charger. But turn screen off and on fixed it. Since this google support person said something about clearing cache, maybe thats why I didnt have my touch issues until after a week or so of use.

My Asus transformer 300 with jb has this same issue, so hopefully google will send a mandatory update for Jelly bean.

I've been experiencing this on my Nexus 7 as well. I have a couple of things that have seemed to help.

1. I read in another forum, xda developers i think, that if you are using pattern lock changing to an alternate method of locking your tablet could help.

2. Disable auto brightness and setting the brightness to about 25-30% or about a 1/3 from the left.

This combo for me has improved the swiping considerably. Of course, turning the tablet off and then right back on does seem to work as well.

I'm hoping that 4.1.2 update will correct this.

I've been working on this ever since I noticed the issue while playing Tower Defense. It was maddening to not be able to upgrade towers on the right side of the screen during a heated battle. I was thinking.. Really?. So in addition to trying changes to the screen I've also been reading various posts on the Internet. I've also been comparing my wife's Nexus to my mine since she has not been experiening this issue/lag nearly at all.

I've done the following so far to my Nexus to see if it helps.

1) Enabled location services. I'm not sure how this would actually affect it. My thinking here is that by having it disabled it would time out in certain apps and cause lag. Mostly just enabled it because my wife's was enabled. Faulty logic and bad troubleshooting I know but I just wanted to try it. I'll turn it back off as soon as I experience the issue again.

2) Disabled, the automatic download in Currents and applications to try and eliminate background tasks from stealing CPU cycles and write or read cycles from the NAND flash.

3) Disable Wi-Fi when not in use to try to stop downloads that I'm not aware of.

I'll post as soon as I have the issue again.

2) The data usage between my table

Even when disabling Wi-Fi it still occurs. I was camping this past weekend and it occurred while reading a book on the Nexus 7
