Trading my HTC One for the S4

Why would this affect charging speed?

I don't know why it charges faster in power save mode. I can speculate it has something to do with power save shutting down the unused cores so there is less of a power draw from the CPU/GPU.

Once again I have to mention you must use the right charger. A one amp charger will take forever to charge this phone.

I don't want to sound offensive, but what phone are you coming from? At first I thought the battery may be draining a little on the fast side until I remembered it always seems that way when I get a new phone because I'm on it constantly fiddling around ...

This phone doesn't drain any faster than any other android phone I've had. Currently I'm running over clocked at 2.05 and it drains at what I would call a normal rate.

As I type this long *** reply I've been tethered WiFi to my One running in power save for the past hour and I've only dropped ten percent from where I was.

Your type of usage will denote how your battery life is.
If you want to get an S4 more power to you. Imho you'll be giving up a far superior product in the One. I'm a power user, not a gamer, and I've been around the block with devices.

I would recommend getting an external battery pack for your phone. You can charge your phone wherever you are at any time, and it won't add mass or volume to your phone (since it's separate to the phone).

If you love the phone just buy on of these. You'll be carrying extra batteries around anyway. This will charge your phone more than twice, and I just got an e-mail that takes another 20% off the price through the 31st. It's "MELT20"
*I already own one of these and get nothing back as a result of you buying anything!

I sometime use this one, purchased it for $10 on a limited time deal, amazon had really good reviews. I'm very happy with it, it's really compact for a 5000mah, fully charges my phone in my pocket (<10% to 100) in 1-1.5 hrs

If the slow charging is your only real issue it is definitely not worth switching to the S4 just for a removable battery. As stated above the external battery charger or the morphie juice pack are great options that would allow you to keep enjoying the ONE. The other advantage to an external battery charger is it can be used on multiple devices while a spare battery will only fit the device it is purchased for.

I start using my HTC One at 7am and by 9pm I still have 54% left. Not bad for me. I am a heavy user. Do you have a car charger. You can always give it a charge on the way out for your night of fun.

I can sympathize with the need for a removable battery. The main difference between this and a Morphie or external battery pack is that its bulky and cumbersome to use. The external pack more-so.

With an S4, you would remove the old super thin battery and pop in a fresh one, and you're instantly at 100%. I am tossing around the X, Maxx, One, and S4 and right now the S4 is still in the lead. Looking past the features, it has the strongest internals, expandable memory, and swappable battery. These things are worth it to me. I am not a fan of the plastic exterior, but no matter which phone I get, I will be putting a case on it. S4 is super thin, so that's a win.

Cumbersome? Having to remove the flimsy battery can be cumbersome as well (not to mention it feels like it's gonna snap when remiving), versus plugging a cable into your phone. Also, in either case your carrying either a spare battery or the external battery. Also, there are some newer external battery that are pretty small.

The S4 charges extremely fast. I own one, and from a wall charger it will charge to full in ~1 hour. So the removable battery isn't the only reason to switch, it's the extremely fast charging.

That said, the One is a better device. Better screen, better build, better UI.

I won't lie, I'm still in between. I wonder if the slow charge is just the ones on non Verizon carriers. My one charges same as my iPhone 5 and s4 (while I had it)

So if I want to check my phone or use it while its charging, i have to pull it out of my pocket with a cord and batt pack attached to it? Yeah, that's cumbersome. There isn't a battery pack out there that is smaller than a battery for a cell phone. Feel free to prove me wrong on that one. I'm open to it, but it doesn't make sense to me. No matter which way you slice it, I don't see it being more practical than swapping a battery. If the HTC One had that option, I'd do that instead of a battery pack--I think you would too.

What don't you like about the S4?

I've seen the screen and think its gorgeous. Love the size of it--the fact it goes to the edge. Dislike the plastic. Can live with the UI since I plan on rooting, romming, and installing a third party launcher. That's just what I'm used to coming from a GNexus.

No, THATS WHAT YOU WOULD DO, I'm fine with the battery life. And if I go back to the s4, I would (not you), still get the external battery pack. For me, I only need it on days when we're out all day and that's why my wife has a purse lol. Oh yeah, and she can use it as well, not a dedicated battery though. Yes, if you nit pick it, it is slightly more cumbersome (wow, I might actually have to unplug my device).

To each his own... but I can't logically see how using a battery pack makes more sense than replacing the battery. At this point, I think we're just arguing our preferences. I am trying to be objective and logical.

I don't own either phone... and I'm trying to figure out which phone would be best for me.

It is all preference. I am around chargers all day so charging isn't an issue... If I was on the go though I'd want the quick swap battery.

Well that was my original point, its about preference. As far as which phone, thats tough. They are both nice and as I said, battery life seems same across the board for me. Good luck.

The screen is great, but compared to the SLCD on the One it's not quite as good. The plastic sucks, as does the UI. But since you're like me and plan on rooting and ROMing that won't be an issue.

You know, I don't really dislike much about the hardware now that you ask. I mainly recommend the One to people who won't root and ROM, as it is simply a better phone stock. I would like a One but it has .3 less screen in a bigger body...I think you made me realize how much I like my S4 hahaha.

**Someone is making a Sense 5 4.2.2. rom for the Sprint S4. So that's pretty cool, just thought i'd throw this in here.

Honestly, you couldn't go wrong either way.

I use my S4 with nothing button Launcher Prime and I love it. I don't know what the few people that have lag are using. I guess I'm just one of the lucky ones, my phone is fast as h3ll.

Hi after months of using this phone i really love it but one thing is killing me, the slow charging feature!!!!! I would get through the day with it but if i want to go out at night it would most likely die on me since i cant leave it charging for long before i go out. Now i'm considering going to the s4 and purchasing extra battery packs so i can change whenever I need the additional power. I just wanted to know if the S4 still had the lag issues that everyone was complaining about. Did they ever end up fixing it?

I've been a Galaxy S4 owner since July 1. No lag or stutter whatsoever.

My nephew and a friend have the HTC One, and they love the pictures from mine and aren't really happy about their's. Other then that, they still love their phones.

I'm very happy with mine because it works best for me. Both are great devices!
You should test a Galaxy S4 and before the 14 days make a decision if that's the phone that best works for you.

Good luck!
