Trouble with outgoing texts on Android 4.3/Nexus 4

Just moved to a Google Nexus 4 (seduced by the $100 price break) with Android 4.3 (using H2O Wireless if it matters). I think I got all the settings right except for one problem: Outgoing texts don't work. Calls are fine. Data works. Incoming texts are received, no problem. But outgoing texts are not getting received.

Any idea where to start on this? TIA....

Never mind... feel stupid... was texting a local number and forgot the area code.... d'oh!
