Troubles with overclocking

I am running the manually updated version of froyo 2.2 and have rooted the phone using EasyRoot. SetCpu is only allowing me to set the cpu up to 800mhz; is there a way to change a setting and go to 1000 or even 1200 mhz using the manual OTA update version of froyo or do I have to install a custom rom? Thanks in advance for any help and my apologies if this is a repeat of another post somewhere.

You need to download and flash a custom kernel. The stock kernel only clocks up to .8.
