Trusted Bluetooth Devices

Has anyone had the problem that I experience which is that my small company uses Outlook Exchange which requires my android Email to be a device administrator.

Because of that the android phone setting doesn?t let me create any Trusted Devices. Instead the font is faded out so that there is no option to press on ?Trusted Devices? but instead says ?Disabled by administrator, encryption policy, or credential storage.?

Does anyone know how to cure this from the Exchange end so I can tell our IT guy? I understand the need to have encryption, but I am wondering if there is some setting that specifically enables Trusted Bluetooth Devices as an option on the Exchange side of things.

It makes sense because the device connects as a BT phone device

Do you know the specific profile?
■ Media audio (A2DP)
■ Call audio (HSP)
■ Health (HDP)
■ Input Device (HID)
■ Networking (PAN)
■ Phone Book (PBAP)

A2DP would be good.

Don't know if it would work or not, but try deleting the exchange account, then set up trusted device, then set up exchange again.

Phone audio, whatever that means...

Thanks for that update. It does make a huge difference. If the phone is connected to the device as a blue tooth phone it cannot connect to other BT phones. Like in a car.

Thanks for the update.

Actually, I'd previously mentioned that as an issue specifically with the car as a phone.

Have tried going into the MAXX BT settings while 505 is connected and clicking on the device name - which should bring up devices's BT profiles - and then try unchecking some or all BT profiles - would this still keep the BT connection to the 505 but since all profiles are uncheck - not use it for answering calls?

That's what I'm wondering as well. That would solve the answering call issue.

I also was thinking about using Tasker to disable Bluetooth when there is an incoming call, and also when making an outgoing call. Just a thought, haven't tested it yet as I don't even have the 505 yet.

Has anyone tried the "inSite LBL809 Bluetooth Anti-Loss Smart Proximity Alarm"? It looks like it is designed to go into your wallet. I would prefer having something in my wallet versus keychain or wrist. The "inSite LBL809 Bluetooth Anti-Loss Smart Proximity Alarm" has Bluetooth v4.0 low energy and it looks like they have an app for iphone use but I couldn't find anything for android.... Is there an android app for these products to provide the additional features that I couldn't find? Thanks for everyone's comments.

Just tried the LBL809. Totally unsuitable as Trusted Device.

As I suspected in a prior post, it does not maintain a connection with the Maxx after being paired. [Strike]It seems to be designed as a device you keep in your wallet, then press the single button on it to find your lost phone.[/strike]

Correcting myself... The packaging clearly shows the 809 should work the way the 505 does, but in reverse. It attaches to things like your keys or wallet and provides an instant alert on the phone if you get too far from the 809. This requires software rust is iOS only, and I assume a full time BT connection.

This is different from the 505 which maintains its connection to the phone full time, and vibrates if you get out of range.

There is no Android software for the device, either, so it's pretty useless for our needs.

Yes, I've tried it, there is only one profile to uncheck. In checking it causes the 505 to disconnect from the phone.

This is an awesome feature! I keep my Bluetooth on all day at work so this is perfect for me. Wow ... this phone is pretty amazing.

Anyone try this with a Cobra Tag?

It's on Groupon for ~$12 including shipping: Cobra Tag 2-Way Separation Alarm for Valuables Deal of the Day | Groupon

It's "class B" Bluetooth, not 4.0, but claims to have up to 7 days of battery life. It connects using the serial port profile, so it shouldn't interfere with headsets or speakers. More info: Cobra Tag | Stop Searching. Tag Your Essentials.

Wow, if it doesn't interfere with audio that would be awesome!

Ya, the LBT505 using the headset profile is a dealbreaker for me, I just hope this tag actually works... It didn't get the best reviews online, but I'm willing to gamble on it for $12. Unfortunately, Groupon has insanely long shipping times, so it'll take a couple of weeks before I know.

My 505 showed up today and is charging. I may order this one up as well. I'm willing to take the gamble as well at that price!

I decided to order one. The price I got was $8.99 plus shipping.

I just ordered one too. That will be a cheap stopgap until my Fitbit can be paired.

Read the item FAQ here: Question & Answer: $8.99 for a Cobra Tag 2-Way Separation Alarm for BlackBerry and Android ($59.99 List Price). Free Returns. | Abilene, TX

Specifically:

Q. Can the unit pair via bluetooth without the app? I do not need it to function as an alarm, just pair as a bluetooth device for my Android phone.

A. It requires the use of the app to wirelessly link to the tag.

O well, we'll see what happens. I'm not really too convinced by that answer though, I feel like if the phone supports the BT profile being used, it should be able to pair, it just wont function as an alarm without the app. Are there any BT devices people know of that will only pair through an app?

That's my assumption. I'll report as soon as I have mine.

Has anyone seen a way to disable the notification that you have connected to a trusted device? I don't need to be "notified" about this - I did it on purpose. I'd like to reserve the notification area for things requiring my attention, and this doesn't qualify.
