Trusted Bluetooth Devices

Speaking of the Cobra Tag, it's been a wonderful device for me to use as a trusted device... Until I installed KitKat yesterday.

On KitKat the Cobra Tag randomly disconnects from the phone, sounding the separation alarm and locking the phone. Very disappointing.

I'll have to test the Cobra Tag on my Nexus 5 to see if it can maintain the BT connection with a different KitKat device.

I had issues with all of my BT devices that were all solved by unpairing and the re-pairing the devices after 4.4 installed.

Has anyone who has updated to 4.4 on the Maxx tried the Fitbit as a trusted device? I assume that if it won't work as a trusted device on the Moto X that it won't on the Maxx, but thought I'd ask. Pebble Steel looks a lot nicer than the original Pebble, but still holding out for a Google Watch or a better "tag" type device.

Fit bit does not work as trusted device on the Maxx, even under KitKat.

I'm not sure if you can even pair the Fitbit. It works fine with the Fitbit app, but I think that just like the Cobra Tag, it needs the app to connect.

That's been my experience. It works with the app, but doesn't show up in my list of BT connections.

Hi All,

Apologies if this has been covered previously but I've managed to use my Macbook Air as a trusted device by installing an app on it which emulates a BT headset. There's a couple of apps out there that do this, I've used Phonebox Lite (https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/phonebox-lite-handsfree-calls/id782588884?mt=12&at=10l3Vy) which is free. I don't care so much about the app functionality, just that it holds the BT connection, reconnects automatically and works as a Trusted Device... it does all of these well.

I'm keen to see how the Chipolo and Gecko go though, would be nice to have the Trusted Device on me at all times. Thanks for all the info provided so far everyone.

Hmmm good question, I had it setup for the first time yesterday and don't remember receiving a call... Might test today and report back. I'm hoping it works like iOS and the audio goes to the device you answer from.

So, even if you answer on your phone (I'm using a Moto X by the way) it still routes the audio through the mac. That's fine for my use case since I don't actually get that many calls and I'm sitting right in front of my Mac where I can click on a big button to switch the audio to my phone.

There was another app (Phone Amego) I found that had far more options, I'm guessing you could configure it to default to phone audio but it's about $30 for the full version.

That's why I stopped using the InSite device as a trusted device, it screwed up the speaker behavior.

The Bluetooth Authy app looks promising because I don't think it connects as a headset... problem is that it does not automatically reconnect when back in range. I've sent an email to them requesting this feature but who knows if/when they will implement it.

I thought Authy was just an authentication app? What's the bluetooth functionality of it?

I decided to try out a Wallet TrackR after a couple emails with their support that gave me hope. If they ever get it figured out, it will make a great Trusted Bluetooth Device. It's relatively small, thin, and is supposed to have 18 month battery life. After pairing in the app, my Moto X immediately prompted to use it as a "trusted" device. Reliability is horrible, though. I have to re-pair it several times a day, and I haven't heard back from their support since sending an email Friday morning.

I have found the same to be true of the Cobra Tag. Reliability was a little spotty, but since the Kit Kat update, it has turned much worse. I disconnected it and turned it off.

So is anybody having problems with using the CobraTag as a trusted device?
I find that after my phone's screen times out, the CobraTag starts to give out a beep once a minute indicating that it's been disconnected. And waking up the device shows the lockscreen.
When I'm using the phone (ie. the screen is active), the CobraTag stays connected (ie. the Tag doesn't beep once a minute). It's just that when the screen times out that the Tag gets disconnected, which of course means that it's useless as a trusted device.

My pebble watch is pretty much problem free as a trusted device (I wanted a keychain device for those times I don't want to wear a watch).

My phone is a Moto G.
CobraTag firmware version 201106280000.
App Version BAC1272012

Bummer. I got my Chipolo today, and there are two problems:
1) The interface is inscrutable. I'm a hard core geek, and damned if I can figure out ANY of the Android app UI. No, seriously, it's laughably incomprehensible.
2) The Chipolo isn't seen as a bluetooth device; my phone can't "find" it, much less pair with it.

What a bummer :(. I guess I'll try writing the Chipolo folks and seeing if there's any hope (at least for #2, which is all I really cared about when buying this thing).

Hi ThatAdamGuy, did you get a reply from Chipolo? I was about to write to them about the same topic!

I found that after un-installing the Chipolo app, I could see the the Chipolo when scanning for Bluetooth devices...

But I don't know what their default pairing access code is, it isn't 0000 or 1234!

Has anyone gotten their hands on their Gecko yet? It looks like ship dates are just up in the air. I've seen January 2014, February 2014 and March 23, 2014?

Received an email update last week that said my Gecko will ship in april or may. They had some manufacturing issues.
