Trying to decide on Nexus 6, Moto X or Droid Turbo

Can't afford $650 retail so I'll have to see what's the on contract pricing, and I'd prefer the Nexus 6 of course.

I seriously dont understand all this crying about the price. I guarantee that the Droid Turbo will be just as expensive off contract as the nexus6, which if u think about it makes the turbo more expensive cause its a smaller phone than the nexus... To continue this progression, if u compare the nexus to its competitors, its still cheaper than the samsung note 4, and deff way cheaper than the iphone6+, so your still ahead of the game even though yes the price is higher than last years model, but what do you expect, its made with premium specs and material, Google isnt gonna make that a 400 purchase.

I've been saying this all day. It's still the best bang for your buck. The note for is 825 on att. And the 6 plus is 850. But according to the complainers, they'd rather pay the extra almost $200 for the note because it's that much better...

I don't think many people are crying about the price it was just more than expected. I think it's ok to be surprised that the price is that high. Also for those that buy outright there is a huge difference between paying 400 and 650. I could afford a nexus every year at the lower price. Bought the nexus 5 for 375 and sold for 325 almost a year later. If you have the option of buying on contract then might as well get whatever you want. Either way I'm personally going to wait a month or so til I can get one of these phones on the cheap on swappa.

I buy my phone outright and I'm still ok with it. I expect phones to be this much. If it was going to be cheaper, then that's just better for me. But it's still cheaper than most as it is.

I am in the same boat, but if the Nexus
6 is truly one model that supports all 4 carriers and has an unlocked bootloader, my decision is easy.

The Moto X and Turbo will most certainly have locked bootloaders and will not fully support all the bands for the other 3 carriers.

The Turbo and Moto X may be able to be unlocked via a 3rd party but at additional cost and with no guarantees.

Not that it's a huge factor, but I'm betting the Verizon Nexus 6 holds its value better than the Turbo.

It's my impression that the Droid branded phones depreciate faster than other phones. I'm not complaining, I bought my current Droid Maxx on the secondary market and I'll probably do the same with the Turbo.

People are crying about the price because this isn't a Nexus. It's the first Android Silver phone judging by all visible clues.

Many months ago we were told that Nexus was dead, and we'd get no more cheap handsets. Silver would arrive and meet the competition toe to toe with premium pricing.

Reaction to this news was bad and Google eventually told us not to worry, Nexus wasn't dead. Except it's clear that Nexus as we knew it IS dead. They just slapped a Nexus badge on a Silver phone with the 6.

I think when we heard that Nexus wasn't dying we all took that to mean that our low cost bargain handsets weren't going away. This was a logical conclusion to come to. Unfortunately, they really have gone away and it's a huge disappointment.

The rug feels like it was pulled out from under. Thanks Google.

Except that it's only been the last 2 iterations of phones that were cheap. All the ones before that were just as expensive.

I think I am going to wait until the moto X play edition comes out, see what the price is and reviews. The 6 is just too big for me, price is fine.

Arguably 3 iterations. The GN started life at $399 and was reduced to the $349 price point we all fell in love with. Heck, even $399 is $250 less than the 6.

Again, the 6 doesn't conform to the Nexus pricing model of the last 3 years, which is arguably when Google started getting significant traction with the devices. I've been buying each year since the second one, but the 6...

I think Google is really going after Samsung. This is aimed squarely at the Note 4, a major sales draw for them. Analysts have been saying for a while now that Google wants to shrink their market share. We got an expensive phablet for a "Nexus" as a result.

When the Play Edition Moto X/Turbo/whateverthef___ is released we'll gladly lap it up at full price because the 6 is so unpalatable.

Right now the Moto X is my primary phone because of the design, size and features. I can easily manage more than 4 hours of screen on time with my usage. I like the Turbo specs, but the capacitive buttons does turn me off a bit. I'm also considering the Nexus 6 as a backup phone and tablet, but not at $650, not because I'm too cheap for it, but I don't need two flagship device, especially at a size that is too large for me.

There is no Moto X Play Edition, and I don't even know why one would want that.

Perfect Moto play edition phone IMO?

Higher resolution screen
All the LTE bands from the Nexus
Same day updates as the Nexus

If those things don't happen, I agree with you that there's no point in having a play edition.

Kind of a random thought/ question, but it does pertain to both the Droid Turbo and the Nexus 6. That Turbo Charger thing that can charge the battery up really fast, is that bad for the battery, if you do that regularly? I don't know much about how that technology works, but I feel like if you do that all the time, it would kill the overall life of the battery a bit quicker, would it not?

Safe bet.

In both the primary and secondary markets, Droid Turbo will be marketable to Verizon customers only whereas the Nexus 6 will be marketable to customers of all 4 major US carriers (and most regionals as well). Of course, this also means that people looking to sell their Nexus 6 they've used on Verizon will be competing against sellers of the device used on other carriers, but by the same token the effective market is similarly broadened.

Also, the Droid Turbo will likely be slower to receive updates of and be less likely to receive as many successive iterations/flavors of Android OS, whereas the Nexus 6 will generally be at the front of the line for receipt and likely can expect to get them for as long as the device's hardware will support them (even the original N7 of Summer '12 is receiving Lollipop).

The Nexus 6 looks awesome from the renders, very premium look, but that size is a deal breaker. 5-5.2" would be the see spot.

Heat, more than anything, is what causes premature decay of lithium-based batteries. So long as the device isn't becoming inordinately hot while speed-charging, there isn't reason for concern. Actually, you're more likely to have issues with shortened battery life via wireless charging, since the energy lost in the inefficiency of that method is in the form of conversion to heat.

Here's some 'Must-Read' info on how to get the most out of your battery.

But, I believe the ONLY charger they give you is the "rapid" one. So, per battery university, that fast charging cycle will affect battery life.
