I am a total noobie, period, I know diddly squat about this, but I was told coning hear and knowing nothing really doesn't matter that you'll put me step by atep through what I'm doing and makw sure I'm rooted and everything goes well(:

You need to post software information for your EVO 4G.

Select Menu => Settings => About phone => Software information then note the Android version, PRI Version, and PRL Version. Post that information here in order to get the right advice on how to proceed.

My PRI is 1.77_003
My PRL is 60687
Android version is 2.3.3

I know it is already rooted, just wasnt sure which rom etc, I too am new, its really confusing sometimes.

If your PRL version is 60686 or earlier, select Menu => Settings => System updates => Update PRL. After updating the PRL you should also update the Profile. Once you have rooted your phone, do not accept any other software updates from Sprint.

If your Android version is 2.3.5, you will need to use the HTC Dev tool to unlock the bootloader on your EVO by following these instructions: http://forums.androidcentral.com/ht...26-guide-rooting-phone-hboot-2-18-0001-a.html. HTC Dev requires that you first have the following utilities installed on your computer: Android SDK Android SDK | Android Developers, Java Runtime Environment java.com: Java + You, and HTC Sync HTC Help Center (only needed for Windows computers). HTC Dev then guides you through a 10 step process to generate a token which you must submit in order to receive a binary file which is required to unlock the bootloader.

If your Android version is 2.3.3 or earlier, you can use Revolutionary to unlock the bootloader and gain root access by following the directions here: http://forums.androidcentral.com/ht...oot-evo-4g-gingerbread-via-revolutionary.html.

Once you have unlocked the bootloader, you will need to install a custom recovery. Although Revolutionary does install clockworkmod recovery, I recommend installing Amon Ra v2.3 by following the method described at [Recovery] [09-Feb-2011] RA-supersonic-v2.3 - xda-developers.

If you were able to use Revolutionary to unlock the bootloader and install SuperUser, your EVO is fully rooted and ready for use with the stock ROM already installed on the phone; however, you can install the custom ROM of your choice by following the method demonstrated in this You Tube video: How to Flash a ROM on the HTC Evo 4G.flv - YouTube. Be sure you make a Nandroid backup within recovery before you wipe the phone and install a custom ROM or kernel so that you have the option of reverting back to your current configuration in case the phone fails to start properly or becomes unstable during normal usage.

Brandon, update your PRL version then update your profile as described in my earlier post. Since you have Android version 2.3.5, you will have to use HTC Dev to unlock the bootloader. Once you have unlocked the bootloader, you will have to install a custom recovery and use this to flash a custom ROM.

HTC Dev requires that you first have the following utilities installed on your computer: Android SDK http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html, Java Runtime Environment java.com: Java + You, and HTC Sync HTC Help Center (only needed for Windows computers).

When you finish installing the required utilities, use the HTC Dev tool to unlock the bootloader on your EVO by following these instructions: http://forums.androidcentral.com/ht...26-guide-rooting-phone-hboot-2-18-0001-a.html. Follow the 10 step process to generate a token which you must submit in order to receive a binary file which is required to unlock the bootloader.

Once you complete unlocking the bootloader, installing a custom recovery, and installing SuperUser, you will be ready to flash a custom ROM. There are many different ROMs available for the EVO 4G, and you can try as many as you want. My personal preference is MikG 3.11 (see images) available at MikG v3.11 [3/9/2012] (be sure to download the full version). The You Tube video How to Flash a ROM on the HTC Evo 4G.flv - YouTube demonstrates the process for flashing the ROM on your phone.

Thanks for the information.
I have superuser on my phone right now, and its on a stock rom.
So i should just watch that youtube video, make some backups and find a rom that works for me?

That's right. Research EVO 4G ROMs for one with the features and Android version you want, download the ROM, transfer the ROM zip file to your phone's SD card, disable Fast boot, then boot into recovery (power off and press and hold power and volume down buttons), make a Nandroid backup, and follow the steps in the video.
