It's true, their (sammobile) servers are so slow. But I figured to download it and try to find an alternative in the meantime. It's dowloading and still says another 6 hours left, I spent the last hour trying to find a faster alternative but only found a rapidgator mirror which was even SLOWER.
So it looks like for now this is the only choice. However, once downloaded maybe I will host it. However even though I can say I'm not going to modify it, really I would even say to distrust even myself because you don't know me. So beware of the source from whence you find your OS. For all you know it could be a hacker uploaded for the sole purpose of inserting a back door trojan to use your phone as part of a botnet whenever you are connected to the internet. And then the concern about the hacker being able to read your sensitive data.
So that said I would recommend to wait the 8+ hours for it to download from sammobile. It's sad to have to wait for so long but so be it. I think I might download a couple versions simultaneously so maybe if the version I have doesn't work then I won't have to wait another day to download and try another one.
I hope this works. I just got this phone (G900V), and it had 5.0 already, I would NEVER have upgraded it if it were me. I am going to downgrade to 4.4.2.
By the way you can disable update notifications after downgrade and root by physically disabling the application. If needed you might have to find and freeze the update app using titanium backup. That's what I usually do. Also disable notifications for the update app and you'll never hear from it again. Just make sure it's really frozen before you disable notifications so it doesn't update without you knowing!
I was appalled to discover that Verizon locks their bootloaders. I'm glad I only go the prepaid route, and if it ever comes time to upgrade phones in the next couple years I'll be changing to another provider if Verizon still continues to lock their bootloaders. In fact I would have never even signed up with Verizon in the first place if I had known about them locking the bootloaders causing me a PITA. In fact I bought the 500+ 64gb turbo and when I found out the bootloader was locked and there was no way around it, I returned it so Verizon already lost $549 from me because of that, because I bought the S5 on craigslist. /rant
Anyhow I will let you guys know if the downgrade and subsequent root works or not. IF it doesn't work I will be canceling Verizon and going to another provider. I hope not cause I just want a working phone, but I WILL NOT stay with Verizon if I can't bypass their locked bootloaders.
