twrp or cm

Its your own preference really.

CWM (ClockWorkMod) has been around longer but not necessarily better.

TWRP (Team Win Recovery Project) has a few years under its belt but its following is very strong.

I started out back 4 yrs ago on CWM like most people but when TWRP came into the scene in Alpha stages I dove in and have never looked back. Both basically feature the same options & features today. It more or less comes down to if your device supports them both or not and which UI layout you like better.

Ok cool I didn't know they would only work if supported on ur device, what's best for HTC vivid

Question can I root n create a custom recovery rite from the trwp app goomanager

Normally in most rooting situations when you unlock your bootloader as the first step in rooting you flash the custom recovery of your choice by following the rooting instructions. From there you boot into your custom recovery and then you flash " install " what is known as SuperUser or SuperSU " root access " file to complete the process.

I know programs like ROM Manager and Goo Manager offer the option to flash the custom recovery but I think its if your already rooted and running and wish to change your custom recovery from one to the other. I haven't used Goo Manager/ROM Manager to do this option but I believe that is the way they intend it to work from those programs.

If you follow thru with those links I provided to CWM/TWRP they have instructions on their websites on how to apply the custom recovery. Use that in conjunction with whatever rooting guide you are using because each device has its own way of doing things.

I think one benefit to CWM over TWRP is CWM has controls used by the physical keys, whereas TWRP is a touch interface. I have seen a couple instances where rebooting into recovery and using the keys was helpful in a device where the screen was cracked and was unresponsive to touch.

Ok so now I believe I'm screwed, my phone is booting into a boot loop of CM, where it says CyanogenMod n its spinning blue circle. I'm signed in on my wife's phone to post this.

If it's Cyanogen Mod 11, boot into recovery > wipe > advanced wipe > select cache and dalvik cache. It it's a different ROM (Anything that isn't CyanogenMod) do the same, but select data and system along with cache and dalvik cache :)
